He considered.

"I think we should stay together for now. Let's carry onward a bit and see if there's something more obviously edible if you guys want to err on the side of caution for now."

Seris waved her hand, "Bah! As much as these things seem inedible, if it'll save me from starvation I'll do it myself. Thee can go ahead and risk it further. If thee collapses and I find thy body though, no hard feelings aye?"

Seris scrapped up some of the fungus, mold, and slime. She waited for Neru to finish his climb up before jumping down.

Neru had not the phisical strenght nor the supernatural ability to make that climb, so he simply waited below for either Seris or Nox to come down with some food, if they manage to find any. When they eventually did, he would offer to have the first bite if they weren't willing themselves.

"I'm sure it will be fine. Give me any of it at random, and I'll confirm it's safe"

Seris raised an eyebrow at Neru, "Usually it takes minutes to hours to find out if it is safe or not, Neru. I see no harm in just asking Abcde, as it would most likely take the same time to find out if it is harmful or not. However, thy's bravery is noted. No need for you to come to harm needlessly."

Nox nodded.

"Seris is right, Neru. It isn't that far from here to the library as thankfully the labyrinth is stable around here relatively speaking. We should use his knowledge and be safe. If we're able to feel hunger again, we probably are subject to food poisoning too. and Hell-Cat over here might be able to just get cramps and a high but I am sure you and I would keep over from the wrong mushroom."

OOC: Clever thinking to take the plants back to the library!

Deciding that risk was unnecessary given the wealth of knowledge nearby, Nox and Seris dragged Neru back to the library. All the extra exertion was not without consequence as the hiking continued to wear down their already tired bodies <b>(-2 HP Nox and Neru, -1 HP Seris) but returning to the colossal book sprite it happily greeted them and leaned in eager to examine what they found. "Oh my, Ghost Cap mushrooms! Those have potent hallucinogenic effects. If you eat them your minds will be playing tricks on your days!" Abcde quickly identified. The moss took no longer. "That's common moss, tasteless, but edible." The gray slime was the last. "Oh dear, Devil's Trail, highly poisonous if eaten directly. Though fun fact, it's harmless if cooked! It also adds an almond flavor to dishes, it's sometimes used for high end bakers."

+10% Knowledge (Plants)

For the moment the trio had secured a source of food, starvation would be kept at bay. At least for the time being.

OOC: Moving along to keep the pace quick.

With two of the three path explored, that only left continuing deeper into the labyrinth. Food was no longer a concern as there had been an abundance of moss to gather, but water would become a concern in another two days. Time was not on their side. Descending deeper the state of the maze continued to deteriorate. These lowest levels were in shambles. Dead ends became more frequent forcing the group to double back on themselves. That was also when they started to realize they were not alone.

It was subtle at first, a scuff on a wall here, an indentation in the threadbare carpeting that could have been a footprint if you looked at it just right, but the evidence became more apparent. Holes were punched into walls, scratches were dragged along the walls in five even rows like fingernails. Then they started to hear the snuffling, like something was trying to catch a scent. It always seemed to be just around the next corner, but each time there was nothing there. Whether Abcde had inadvertently willed it into existence by recalling the story of Theseus and the Minotaur or it had always been lurking there, their own labyrinth seemed to possess its own beast.

But were they in any state to face a beast?

Then they rounded a corner and found themselves in a large room. Here a dozen different hallways led off into other corners of the maze, but of more interest was the shimmering orb hanging in the middle of the room. It was a bubble, fragile as glass, suspended at chest level above the floor. Inside it was an image of rolling grassy hills. Power radiated off it.

Then on the opposite side of the room a hulking shadow lumbered into view. It was a man. Of sorts. He had a half dozen heads and twice and many arms and legs. It seemed when all the temples had been rolled together someone had come with them. Each of the faces was ever so slightly different, the overgrown hairstyles were each unique, but his maddened eyes held no reason left in them and his mouth froth and foamed. Seeing the trio his far too many eyes widened and his beat a drum beat across his barrel sized chest and his many legs lurched forward with startling speed. He seemed heedless of the delicate prize suspended directly in his path.

OOC: Thanks Talon! I try my best!

As the trio came into what seemed to be either the center of the labyrinth or at least some important junction, Nox sighed with relief that they may have finally found something worth their trip and hunger pains. Especially when he saw evidence of not being alone anymore combined with the floating orb in the center of the room.

"Hey look at that, it's...oh crap!" he said, pointing at the orb and then to the man-monster charging at them.

"Ugh...that thing is going to bowl right into the orb trying to get to us! Seris...you're the most physically fit of us. See if you can maybe stall it or something but I'll try to distract it for you. I'm going to try and save the orb from getting crushed. Neru? Maybe try using your trap or something else in your childish yet effective bag of tricks!" Nox said as he charged for the orb.

He was a bit more agile than Neru so figured he'd try and save it.

"One of you ghosts get out here and trip that thing or something!"

OOC: Ok, so Nox is going to try and get the orb, using shadowstep if able to get close to it. Thank god I added a point to arcanus from the witches. Once he grabs it he will try to use shadowstep at the first opportunity to fall back to either the way they came or otherwise the most safe looking destination.

He's also trying to debut his new Summon Ghostly Servitor ability to have one of the ghosts trip the man while he charges to make him lose control and give the others a chance to react better.

Seris looked to Nox, "I'm still healing from my injuries from the last fight plus I'm only just restoring from hunger."

Smiling, "I think I'll show you my ability after all."

Nicking Nox with a claw, Seris drank the blood at the edge of it. Shadowstepping as a leap into the foe charging towards the orb. Slashing directly into it's legs to slow it.

OOC: This is depending if I get that ability from Nox via Devious Devouring.

OOC: Just a tiny update for now so Seris and Neru can adjust their actions accordingly.

Reaching out a claw, Seris stopped. She found she was unable to bridge that last inch and nick Nox with a claw. It were as though Seris just couldn't bring herself to do it. There was no time to question the phenomenon, the mirrored beast was bearing down on them.

"You may be overestimating my abilities a tad. My skill lies elsewhere for the moment, not so great in combat"

Moving backwards, away from Seris and the charging beast, Neru attempted to peer into the apparently mindless conglomeration of humans that was attacking them. Perhaps there was something they could do to appease them, or a particular weakness the group could exploit into their advantage.

Seris snarled as she glanced at her claw, "What?"

Looking forward at the beast lurching towards them Seris focused on it as her eyes squinted. Their glowing silver hue eyed areas of the monstrosity. Getting low, Seris dashed forward.

Using the void tear to enhance her Devious Devouring, Seris anticipated it's movement and bit a chunk out of it as she slashed across it.

Adventure - Be Wary Weary Wanderer
There was not enough darkness in this florescent illuminated maze. It forced Nox to charge directly forward if he wanted to save the delicate relic of power that lay in the path of the raging monster. As he ran Nox called up one of the ghosts he'd bound to himself in Littleton. A young man in a ragged and bloody football jersey appeared and his sunken eyes flatly regarded the monster. The ghost lunged towards the creature, but passed through it dissipating like a breeze, the ghosts had only a slight impact on the world in their current form it seemed. But the distraction of a deathly apparition appearing had the intended effect, the multi-limbed and multi-headed creature stopped and its many arms flailed the ghost buy precious seconds for Nox to reach the delicate orb.

Meanwhile Seris, finding Nox out of reach, turned her attention on the beast and lunged forward. This creature possessed no such protections she found. Her body moved how she wanted it to with its newfound speed and strength. Darting forward she ducked under three swinging arms and took a bite out of one of the many flailing legs, her teeth shone black as the medallion around her neck sparked with inner fire as she sank her fangs into one of the beasts thighs. (-3 HP) She felt the warm meat inside her mouth burning away as the Void dissolved it. Swallowing down what meat she'd torn away, Seris was suddenly thrown off balance as two more sets of arms grew out from her sides leaving her with six hands. The bold attack was not without harm though, the creatures waving arms caught her battered the god of devouring. Less a direct attack and more collateral damage. (-2 HP)

In the background Neru stood quietly to one side, thankfully forgotten in the heat of the moment.

Mere inches away from the thrashing beast, Nox held the delicate orb in his hands. Inside he could see those green hills and clear blue skies. There was great potential locked in this orb, but it was so very delicate and every thrash of that creature's arms was threatening to dash that elusive prize.

Adventure - Be Wary Weary Wanderer
OOC: Neru and Nox both have 4 hp. -4 for library aspect -2 for hunger. Seris is different because of her stamina but she took a little from  the animated armor so she's hurt but I think has more hp than Nox and Neru.

While the ghost wasn't able to trip the guy, it did provide a visual distraction as the ghost was able to manifest itself physically. Nox could perhaps use this to aid Series somehow - he was useless in a fight with that thing right now but he could protect theorb for them and try to support them somehow.

He was intrigued when Seris ate a chunk of the man's arm and gained arms herself. More arms meant she had more claws to hopefully sink into their enemy, but he still wanted to try and help her somehow. But first, he had to back off, Partially to protect the orb and partially to get out of Seris' way.

Nox quickly backstepped and fled back to the hallways they first entered the junction chamber from, orb safely in hand. He then turned and pointed at the folded man, and snapped his fingers.

"One of you go for the eyes and distract him for Seris! Just...engulf them with your body or something to distort his vision!" he said.

OOC: Ok so Nox is backing away of course - grabbing the orb was priority for him. He'll then use ghost summoning to have one of his bound ghosts fly right in front of and over the folded man's face, in particular to envelop its eyes. I figure the thing can manifest visually so of it got right up on the man's face if it didn't blind him it would at least be like plunging his head into a ball of mist or something.

I'm hoping to give seris an advantage that way, like making it harder for it to see her or hit her.

Seris looked to the extra arms and smiled. Though she caught collateral damage for getting in so close. Backing out from the foe, Seris used the void tear now differently to enhance her claws and teeth.

She was direly injured but compared to how she was when she first was in the world after the end, she still felt like a million bucks.

Prowling around the creature a bit, Seris awaited for the right moment to pounce with the hopefully opening Nox gave her. Shredding into it with each of her six sets of claws. Her effort was to maim it's limbs so it would be less of a threat.

OOC: Nox is right about Neru's HP, I confused the timing of the weekly heal, thought it happened after the 4 damage.

Neru watched the scene quietly from afar, unnervingly calm.

"I hope you have more ghosts than that for that plan of you, the thing has half a dozen heads to cover. Go Seris!"

Adventure - Be Wary Weary Wanderer
With her newly grown limbs Seris launched herself at the Folded Man. Each of her arms was adorned with claws sharper then razers and the next few moments were a gory display that left the room painted red. For while the Folded Man was mightily increased in strength from having so many iterations folded into one being, he was still just a mortal and Seris was a god with some vitality returned to her. However, she did not come out unscathed, several of the flailing fists and hands caught up and by the end was left reeling herself but still standing. (Seris -2 HP, left at 1 HP) She was likely spared a worse pummeling as the ghosts servitor called up by Nox continued to distract and enrage the beast and at least a dozen fists were thrown through its spectral form before the hulking creature was slain.

The hulking victim of the End fell to the floor and shook the room. Then all was still.

Seris, for her part, found a bit of gristle still pulsing. It was useless to her, but could still be of value to someone.

Shard of Strength: The recipient of this Shard may add one to their Might.

With the danger having passed for the moment, the group had the chance to look at their hard won prize. Inside this delicate bubble they could see the small world contained therein like a snow globe. How accurate that assessment was. Examining the bauble with their divine senses, the gods could see it contained a fragment of a land.

Fragment of a Realm
This Fragment of a realm holds gentle fields and rolling hills of grass. This was not a pristine new land like the Reforged Realm, this place had a history etched upon it in the forms of crumbling ruins. These ruins were steeped in magic which still lingered in their stones, ancient traps still lie waiting to snap on unsuspecting trespassers. These grasslands and ruins could be added onto the Reforged Realm using a Place of Power, doing so would permanently affix to them to the tiny realm of the gods. Space would still be a constraints, but it would ease that burden for a short time.

But this fragment of power could also be shattered. Doing so would destroy the world contained therein and reduce it to raw power. It would free up a single Essence, the raw primordial stuff of creation itself.

What would the gods do with their prize?

Nox sighed with relief when Seris tore the folded man to shreds. Although he looked at her with obvious concern too - the thing did a number on her and he and Neru weren't doing much better.

"Well I'm glad that is over. Hellcat? You continue to intrigue me. Good job in that fight. I was able to distract and support but not much more. But I did save the orb! And it's quite a find too!" he said.

"Naturally, I'll share it with you two, and I'm above duplicity with my peers. It can yield an essence, which is rare and powerful. But I actually think it might be best if we added onto the reforged realm. It probably holds secrets and mysteries that we would benefit from uncovering and mastering. But even after we tame it...it would physically add space to our relatively speaking small ish realm. Never a bad thing." he said.

If we decide to use it for essence instead we'll do something that benefits all three of us. But my main vote is to keep the orb for now and add it to the reforged realm." he said.

Nox keeps the orb for now, but will be honorable and won't use it unless Seris and Neru and he agree on something for it.

He eyed the shard Seris had acquired.

"By the way, my dear Seris. I'd like to make a deal with you. A mutually-beneficial one at that." he said. "I am interested in acquiring the shard you just got from the folded man. In exchange, I have something I think would be absolutely perfect for helping you hunt and stalk your prey. Among other things." he said as he was suddenly twirling around a strange small mass of something that shifted from bright to dark in his fingers. A small lump of something that had obvious energy and power in it.

Nox proposes a trade of his Shard Shard of Perception for Seris' Shard of Strength.

Seris breathed heavily as she recoiled from the damage. The adrenaline rush was great, but it's slow came fatigue and pain. One she had to endure.

Looking to Nox and Neru, Seris spoke, "If I wasn't here to entertain this adventure, I'm afraid of where thee would have ended up."

Seris leveled, "In that regard, I won't measure our worth of what we've done, but I stake we use it. If we desolve it for essence, I'd argue I deserve it's use in majority. With the new land it will reprieve the Hidarugami's extension of lands they control for the others. Even if only momentarily, plus the potential of other rewards."

Licking some of her wounds, Seris pointed at the foe she killed, "Is anyone going to eat that?"

Looking to Nox, Seris tilted her head some. Walking closer she inspected the shard. "Some use, yes."

Pulling the shard she just plucked, she offered it forward in exchange.

Nox shook his head.

"It was an equal alliance, love. You definitely took the brunt of the fighting, but I saved the Orb and provided a distraction and Neru um...did whatever kids do." he said.

He nodded and held out his shard to her, letting her take it from him as she took hers for himself.

Nox trades his shard of perception for the shard of Strength!

"And look at it this way now. Now you get to be called "Night-Stalker" and such instead of just Hell-Cat." he added with a grin.

"But I fully agree it would be a waste not to add it to our realm. Maybe we can find other artifacts like this and add them to our realm over time?"

Your people are more the kind to enjoy a quiet stride down the fields. At any rate, compensation for my aid here will be nice. After all, I doubt any of you know the way back"

If both Nox and Seris were ready, Neru will guide them back the way they came, the path fresh in his memory thanks to the beastly amalgam Seris defeated.

Nox nodded.

"The Noctem could help us scout out the ruins and such too, and we ourselves could make forays into them to look for aspects and such..." he said.

"Regardless I think we all agree that we should screw the essence and keep the orb intact to feed to our new realm." he added.

"And I have power over the land now. I can try and see if I can use it to help speed the growth of some plants and such in the area, but I refuse to coddle Seris' people any more than I'd coddle my own. They are going to have to learn restraint, as well as some advanced stewardship methods like agriculture and such. Plant 2 trees for every 1 they eat and so on. That's on Seris though."

I tell them to plant and show them an example, they instead leave barely any food left to regrow. I tell them, don't eat the people they'll get hostile, also definitely don't push borders. They didn't push out further, but they definitely killed people. I refuse to coddle them myself. This current disease will cull their numbers some, so it should ease the land's bounty at least. With time it will recover, hopefully. While I have hopes for my people, I will advice them but I will not be responsible for their safety. Nor am I inclined to be for others. If they die out, it'll have been their own fault."

With Neru taking point, the child-god led the group back up through the winding halls and identical doorways. He seemed to have a confident grasp on the situation because degree by degree the halls improved in quality, soon returning to identical off-white calls, all the lights were aglow and the carpet was no longer torn and threadbare. It wasn't much longer before the group was back in the Hollow Chapel, their dangerous journey into the maze concluded for now.

Players may resume posting in Chapel Hollow
