I don't think the 'rank' attribute is intended to be a functional command structure kind of rank, it is more like a power rank or even cost classification than any sort of formal grant of leadership.

According to the rulebook

(page 3)

B. Turn Order – The highest Ranking Transformer in your
faction will be leading the group into battle. They roll their
Rank Statistic and compare the result with that of the
enemy leader doing the same thing. Whichever faction gets
the higher number wins, and gets to go first. If you aren’t
the leader, you can still help.

Soldiers Contribute – All Robots of lower Rank than
the leader may attempt to contribute to their success. For
every Transformer who successfully rolls Rank, the leader
gets +1 to see who wins initiative. (In this case, Combiner
/ Gestalt Robots count as one character.)

So Rank has a direct impact on the chain of command, Drumfire though is a reluctant leader at best. He more enjoys being a warrior.


So yes Rank by the rulebook determines chain of command, however the GM has altered the initiative so it's possible he wants to be a bit loose with the rules, and I'm fine with that. However Apogee and Gremlin seem to have some friction between them....so probably better if you or I lead the Decepticons :).

True leadership will be up to you guys too determine, but as far as the rules go, Drum summed it up nicely.

It's not outside of reason that Decepticons will squabble over leadership, so this is fun to see.

I never intended to be a leader :), I just had idea of what alt modes I wanted and then put in the stats that would let me do that I later discovered what rank did elsewhere.

Also it is befittign remember in Astrotrain after Starscream puts Megatron out into space, a fight ensures....

It is amusing that the two people most qualified for leadership don't want it.

Gremlin is 500% not suited to be leader, even though she might demand others follow her orders from time to time.  She's waaaaay too self-centered to properly lead a team.  Anyone who does listen to her in the field should do so only if whatever she says is actually a reasonable conclusion, not because of a chain of command.

Just be one more d10 from the Autobot dude and we can get started

Perihelion's last post includes arrival at the target location, Autobot activity was anticipated and no contingency needed.

I'll give the Decepticons till tomorrow evening to declare their opening action. If they don't, then the Autobots will get to jump in.
