Chapter 2: In Search of a Safehouse...
Having heard Lieutenant Sargus' assessment of the city, the adventurers settle on The Shapely Siren as a possible safehouse. It is now midafternoon, the group had already completed a five-mile trek at first light before they had encountered the gnoll baggage train. It is now near noon and the sun blazes overhead in a clear sky devoid of clouds. The smell of smoke wafts through the air, several plumes of smoke rising from behind the city walls leaving little doubt as to the scent's origin.

Sargus relays to the only person capable of understanding his tongue, Eradil, the following information:

If the adventurers wish to avoid entering the city to reach the brothel, the quickest route will be to skirt the city, staying on the southwest outskirts. There, they can pass near the tannery to the remnants of a quarry just west of the city. A swampy area lies there, home to tribes of Sobekki. Crossing the swamp is a bad idea, he suggests, but they might have more success if they come closer to the wall, near the west aqueduct. This is quite close to the city walls however, and they may be spotted. From here, they can follow the west wall to the northwest outskirts. There, many cottages, outbuildings, and light woods might provide cover. The brothel is several hundred feet beyond the northwest gate, but still on the city outskirts.

Presumably, Eradil relays this information to his companions.

In reply to The Traveler (msg # 1):

Eradil reports Sargus's information to the rest of the party and adds, "It seems the route Sargus suggests is our best choice for now. Staying close to the walls may bring us trouble, but it is a better risk than a swamp full of Sobekki."

Jaim how much the sobekki looked like crocodiles.  Did they look more like people, or more like crocodiles?

Chapter 2: In Search of a Safehouse...
The Imperial Lieutenant veers off the road leading to Gaxmoor and heads toward an area of dense woods southwest of the city. To the party's right, through the trees, the group occasionally catches glimpses of a large walled structure apart from the great ramparts of the city. Sargus tells Eradil this building is the city tannery, but says little more of it.

After some time, the group begins to ascend a steep, rocky hill that looks like it has been quarried at several points. A few abandoned and largely overgrown mine shafts are seen here or there, but the hill is otherwise unremarkable. Reaching the hill's summit, the party sees a swampy area immediately north of the hills. To the west, the walled city looms. Sargus leads the party along a sketchy trail atop a long saddle that runs along line of hills, eventually descending toward the west aqueduct.

Approaching the aqueduct, the party hears the sounds of fast flowing water bubbling up from underground pipes of the western outlet for the city's aqueducts. The deep, stone-lined waterway leads due west, widening the further it goes, eventually feeding into the swamp.

The party cannot see the bottom of the water at its narrowest crossing, which is about 30 feet wide. A stretch of light woods stands at the opposite end of the fast-flowing water. The city walls are about 100 feet to the east.

Andriel yawns. "I could use an ale."

He looks at Sargus. "We have to swim?"

He mutters and turns to Eradil. "We have to swim?"
