The Thing Called Spidorilla!

Wrapped up in their plans, it's easy for people not to notice one another.

Cynthia Sherman had a date tonight. He was an older guy, but good looking, and a bone died vet. She was supposed to meet him at the American Legion when she finished her shift at the diner. Admittedly, she had taken a few extra minutes to give her hair some attention and put on a face that she hoped looked closer to twenty than thirty. But aside from those "necessary" preparations, she had otherwise made a B-Line from closing up shop to him. She was so excited, she'd not thought about the changing circumstances. She'd not considered that it was dark out now, and the short-cuts she often used to get quickly across Detroit now went through dark alleys instead of just alleys. She'd not noticed the burly man with grease speckled cheeks that had seen her as she passed the stoop of his apartment building. She'd not noticed that he'd trailed her straight across three streets and into this alley way, which would have shattered any illusion that they were coincidentally going to the same location. She hadn't noticed until a wide hand that stunk of sweat and cheap supper clasped over her mouth, while another took possession of her hips.
Ecstatic at the easy capture of his prey, the marauder hoisted Cynthia easily off the ground. He carried her over behind the remains of a few rotten booth seats for a restaurant and slammed her hard into the ground, hoping the jarring impact would keep her dazed enough that he wouldn't need to spare a hand to keep her quiet. Her apron pulled away easily, as did her fanciest dress. But her long woolen underwear was fastened in place by fastidiously knotted girdle. He was so close now, he just needed to undo these laces as he'd been taught to do in the Navy. It had been so long for him, and he was so...close...

Wrapped up in their plans, it's easy for people not to notice one another.

This base villain was so consumed by his meticulous assault on Cynthia Sherman's corsette, he hadn't noticed the bearded man in cover-alls that had just entered the alleyway.

And on an evening frought with the missing of crucially important details, this would certainly be the greatest missed detail of all.
