RTJ (Read Last!)

I am looking for four, maybe five applicants interested in playing through the Storm King's Thunder Hardcover adventure who have never played it before. I will be making a number of changes to the HC to suit my style, but SKT is as much a journey of discovery and exploration as it is a grand epic of adventure and combat, and I would prefer players enter it with fresh eyes.

PCs will start at level 2 <s>because level 1 in dnd is a horrible horrible place to be</s>
EDIT: Anyone joining us at this point will likely start at level 5, in keeping with the rest of the party.

All Official Sourcebooks are allowed. Unearthed Arcana may be allowed on a case by case basis. However, character creation is not the priority at this stage.

Here's what I'll need from interested applicants:

1. Character Name
2. Describe your intended character concept in five sentences or less (elevator pitch!)
3. Why does this character adventure?
4. Why do you want to play this particular character in this particular game?
5. What your level of commitment (posting rate - though a posting schedule will be ideal)
6. What's the longest game on rpol you have been in?
7. Anything else interesting I should know?

Here's what I -don't- need:

1. A full character build and sheet
2. A ten-page backstory. Even one page is too much at this stage
3. Poor grammar and writing. If you can't be bothered to check your spelling in your RTJ, I will assume you can't be bothered to post properly.

I hope to close applications approximately a week from now on the 10th of January. Applications will be judged in quality and not on a first-come first-serve basis.

Note that as a DM, I don't mind people making powerful characters. But don't think that you have to make a powerful character. How you play and who you meet is more important - your character's stats are secondary to the decisions and choices they make.

That said I do enjoy epic boss fights and silly party shenanigans, so if you have something wacky in mind well - asking is (mostly) free.

I haven't had a chance to respond to everyone individually but wow that's a lot of RTJs I've received.

For those who are interested in applying but haven't sent in anything yet, I won't be making any decisions until after the weekend at earliest, so take your time to come up with something you enjoy.

For those that did submit I'll get back to you soon :)

Happy New year folks and thank you for the interest so far.

With our fifth player on hiatus, I have decided to open a slot for another character. All the previous points still apply except for the cutoff date. Things to note:

1) I am looking for commitment and consistency above everything else. A light initial concept is fine if you are willing and able to improve on it.

2) Posting frequency is essential. The group has a good momentum, with at least one if not multiple posts a day, barring occasional lapses. That said, this is a PbP - don't burn yourself out.

3) Make sure to look over some of the existing IC threads to get an idea of the quality and frequency of posts in this group.

4) Have fun! My existing players initiate IC PMs with each other, poke me with requests for items/builds/ideas, or even outright plothooks of their own initiative. None of this would happen spontaneously if they didn't enjoy themselves.

5) Last and least important - party composition. A knowledge-monkey (Int) type character would shore up some of the gaps in the existing party well. However, it is not a requirement to be accepted. I am looking for a concept that would mesh well with the campaign and group. Use your judgement. Naturally, RTJs that indicate an understanding of existing party dynamics would be more impressive.

If it helps inform your decision, the current party composition can be (very crudely) summarised:

Moira Ruadh- Halfling Swashbuckler. Follower of Waukeen, excellent cook. Merchant, ex-Freedom Fighter.
Claire Larkspur - Human Paladin (Ancients) of Chauntea. Herbalist. Native of Nightstone.
Thente - Human Giant Soul Sorcerer (Storm). Survivalist, raised amongst elves. Native of Nightstone.
U'lin - Firbolg Forge Cleric of Gond. Smith/Tinkerer. Excessively and wonderfully loquacious.

I hope to close applications around the 10th of April. Again, applications will be judged on quality, not quantity.

I will be extremely selective this round of RTJs. Its entirely possible I don't add anyone if it feels nothing fits.

Now that we are down to 3, I am reopening applications.

To reiterate on the points above:

1) I am looking for commitment and consistency above everything else. A light initial concept is fine if you are willing and able to improve on it.

2) Posting frequency is essential. We have been letting things slow down a little recently, but I am hoping to maintain a once a day or once-every-two-days posting rate. More importantly, posts made should have proactive and do -something- to advance the conversation/scenario instead of just responding passively. A passive do-nothing post is as good as not posting at all.

3) Make sure to look over the Game Timeline and maybe some of the existing public threads to get an idea of the quality of posts in this group.

4) Have fun! My existing players initiate IC PMs with each other, poke me with requests for items/builds/ideas, or even outright plothooks of their own initiative. None of this would happen spontaneously if they didn't enjoy themselves.

If it helps inform your decision, the current party composition is:

Moira Ruadh- Halfling Swashbuckler. Follower of Waukeen, excellent cook. Merchant, ex-Freedom Fighter.
Claire Larkspur - Human Paladin (Ancients) of Chauntea. Herbalist. Native of Nightstone (a small trading village near Waterdeep).
U'lin - Firbolg Forge Cleric of Gond. Smith/Tinkerer. Excessively and wonderfully loquacious.

Previous party members include:
Thente - Human Giant Soul Sorcerer (Storm). Survivalist, raised amongst elves. Native of Nightstone. Currently dealing with spontaneous giant powers.
Doderic - Halfling Wizard/Chef. Currently on loan to the Lord's Alliance, investigating Hill Giants.
Zaiya - Tiefling Diviner Wizard with a roguish bent. Was sent to help the party from a joint employer but has recently been recalled for other missions.

While an arcanist is preferred, my priority is on the player being a good fit, then the character concept/personality being a good fit, then the actual mechanical build being a good fit.
