Re: OOC Chat - 005

Moira Ruadh:
Moira, the Character: [would scold U'lin for pressing on Dalus' Dream were she aware of the conversation]

Moira, the Player: [rhythmically pounding fists on table] AIR SHIP. AIR SHIP. AIR SHIP.
It's funny - I'd normally be exactly the same mindset, Moira.

Here, it's reverse situation on the player v. pc.
As a player, I was very leery about even addressing the airship, being mindful of the tech level and consideration of long-back PM discussions with DM.

IC, however, U'lin was genuinely concerned about the flight, the inspiration, and all that effort and creativity being lost, hidden away from its environment where it belongs.
He'd be quite content if Felgolas kept the Dream, but indicated he would keep working on it, taking it outside :)

Moira Ruadh:
Also, regarding the wagons: would it be possible for U'lin to make some skill checks and study the designs over the course of the Long Rest evening?  For instance, the mechanisms and design elements of "Dalus' Dream", if he were interested in later trying to build a similar craft himself?
I definitely planned a post about U'lin dragging Zaiya over for insights on the magic re the steamworks boiler! :)

DM:
Extending the magic effects of the carriages to Moira's wagon will be a project in itself. But not an unfeasible one
That's interesting as well!
I'm going to stay with U'lin's acceptance that he doesn't appreciate they can be changed, as it was pretty material to his posting/understanding.  Nothing stopping Zaiya from an education lesson later, of course :)

GM:
Also, what do you guys think of the wagons? I tried to make them varied with different potential appeals. Though as I typed them I could sort of tell which ones U'lin would go for xD
Of course, but you have to make things that would interest him, and things that would not, and somethings simply neat - we can't leave out our dragon buddy's interest-meter, right? :)

Being frank, DM, I thought it was a great post and some wonderful creativity.
Mechanically, extra storage, stealth, protection, turtling, resting, offence, speed... that's a great splash of variety of special skills, even before you go for the fun flavour description - and I LOVE me the flavour :)  The hot rods, dwarven kegs, mushrooms, - *nice, slow clap*.

Definitely worth the wait, and thank you kindly.

I think the different wagons are really interesting. Some of them are like ... "huh? why would someone build that...?" but people do all sorts of weird crap :D

Overall I think the best thing would be to get cash and start fresh with a blank slate, but obviously an airship wagon would be amazing too!

The impression I had was that the dragon's first choice was swap, and some coin to help continue upgrading.

But, with enough coin, you can do nifty magic enchantments as well as the big construction parts, so both ways have options.

The only ones that really were low on U'lin's list were "can't upgrade/tinker", the kabooms, and completely useless to the party - anything else has merit, especially if he becomes aware the enchantments could be expanded to cover a second wagon.

Aww, shucks, thanks!  The quality posts in this game are terribly addictive.

You talk about treasures for U'lin?  Great new friend, conversation partner, crafting books, a new wagon to craft, quality materials for reforming, party is safe and recovered, and Gond's approval - oh, heck, yes.

Well done, the both of you.  If nothing else, it's kind of cute getting to see U'lin have a friend to geek out with.  ^^

On a similar note of engineering stuff; U'lin, could you refresh my memory on what all the Iron Beetle was actually equipped with in terms of its kitchen gear?  We've never used it before this point and I'm not entirely sure what was actually built versus just tossed out as ideas.

Alchemy area doubles as spice rack/expanded cooking area.
Fresh greens growing.
Cooking surface overtop the travel smithing coals (and the lid is removeable to for placing leaf-wrapped items in the coals).
Sides pop out for better air flow/expandable for more cooking space.
Chill box in one of the sitting cabinets.
Water/spritzing nozzles over top.  I don't believe we completed the pot filler swing arm, but you'd still have direct water down from the fire suppression system multi-use.

Gotcha Zaiya, thanks for letting us know!

Felgolos would prefer if you left the infrastructure intact but you can definitely salvage whatever consumable items you already have in there, including the fridge (he has a fridge).

Update will be late today, trying to sort some work out. Happy Monday!

Posting from phone

I’m guessing -after supper helping-
Ulin needs a couple hours on the boiler - zaiya help?
Six hours converting the heavy armour to light bars. Beetle was way heavier, but we have other cargo too
Eight hours sleep - such a good place to cut, but how often do you have a dragon hoard sleepover?

Don’t know if there are any modular pieces of the dream. If so those need looking if we can’t take them

Up for later departure tomorrow?

Thente's vote is for Necklace of fireballs or scroll. Scroll could be huge... and also something Zaiya could add to her spellbook for later. But also one that multiple people could try to read in a pinch (Ethgar, Thente, Zaiya) could all read since it's on their spell list.

Re: OOC Chat - 005

Ooh, Claire has dragon-blood in her heritage?  The plot thickens!  :3

As for the deal Felgolos is offering, my vote is as such:

-Payment for the Iron Beetle
This is ultimately U'lin's call, as it's his wagon being sold and this part of the deal would exclusively be his to do with as he pleases.  Moira would advise he take the gems as money can be put toward broader applications.

Of the three magic items offered, the Necklace of Fireballs could be pretty useful in a dangerous situation (especially since 5e's version no longer has the 'you might explode' downside the older versions do).  The scroll of Teleport is neat, but it's also a one-time 'in case of emergency' escape plan; might be clutch, might never be used.  In the end, it depends a lot on where U'lin's priorities are.

-500 GP vs. Health Potions
Normally Moira would go for the money, but given that we know we're walking right into danger sooner than later, those healing potions are looking pretty good right about now.  Emergency supplies win out this time.

-Art Objects for Zephyrous' Painting of Felgolos
I mean, it is of him, so that just makes sense.  He can hang it up inside the Iron Beetle.  :3  Moira can get an appraisal of the art that's it's traded for in Yartar and sell them through the Church of Waukeen there as well.

-Life Diamonds
I already mentioned in PM that Moira suggests Felgolos could visit their Summerhawk cousins in Nightstone, and was going to write him a letter of introduction to give them when he arrived.  If he's got diamonds to donate as well then she'll also write a similar letter for him to give to the Waukeenars there who are handling the project explaining who he is and how he's assisting on her behalf.  That, as well as giving him a big hug and kiss on the cheek.

If anyone else has anything they want to send to Nightstone, such as letters or items, I'd guess giving them to Felgolos to deliver would be the way to do it?  Much faster/more trustworthy than standard couriers right now, that's for sure.

Re: OOC Chat - 005

I believe Felgolos mentioned he has two Life Diamonds he can spare. He does like to collect gems, which have many magical uses.

He is also willing to deliver stuff when he drops by Nightstone, so long as it's not too much. Feel free to PM me any letters or gifts you want to send back xD

Also, it looks like Moira wants either Necklace or Money, U'lin is either Money or Ring, Thente is for the Scroll or Necklace.

I agree U'lin has the final say here, but the rest of the party can and should voice up if they have any opinions atm.

Its looking like the party is just going for cold, hard gems? Any objections?

ROFL - I'm the opposite. I love the flavor of the ring of the ram, but the mechanics of it have always felt weak to me (even in previous editions). In this edition it really feels like it should be more uncommon than rare.

+7 to attack for 2d10 force damage and 5 ft of movement is... fine? +5/charge to attack try and batter/break an object is... fine? The biggest thing is that it's a) attunement and b) only 3 charges per day.

It could be a super useful item... I just have a bad history with the dice and magic items. Like burning all 3 charges to et +15 to attack and I'd roll a 1 on the d20 kind of thing, so it still fails and then your items burned for the day and it takes up attunement.

I love the flavor of the item, but the mechanics of it have always felt underwhelming to me.

None here. Not sure if Claire/Ethgar/Zaiya want to chime in on the items more directly or not though.

Re: OOC Chat - 005

The damage/push distance is based on how many charges are used, so it's either 2d10/5 ft, 4d10/10 ft, or 6d10/15 ft.  That's nothing to sneeze at, especially considering that the only conditions listed for this forced movement are a successful hit against a creature you can see.  Unlike other shove/forced movement abilities from other sources, there's no restriction on Size.  Size categories are not mentioned at all, meaning a Tiny Creature using this ring could uppercut a Gargantuan-sized Creature 15' into the air.  At that point it's less about the damage inflicted and more about the RP value of having done such a thing, and what influence it could have on the situation.

The real value of such a ring is in the Object Breaker alternative use.  It bypasses Object HP entirely as written.  Attacking a creature with the ring features a 2d10 base damage value, but attempting to break an object doesn't: it just says that it breaks as determined by a Strength skill check (with up to a +15 bonus), not by an attack roll.  That is to say, if you beat the assigned DC or meet the object's AC, it breaks outright.  Adamantine - the strongest material in the game - has an AC of 23, so a reasonably strong character could obliterate it with the ring easily.  Things like wood and stone (ie, what walls and fortresses are made of) are down around 15 or 17 AC.  So the Ring of the Ram becomes the ultimate door knocker if you're leading a raid on a fortified building.

Moira Ruadh:

Hmm, I did miss that the attack portion was also charge based. Yes, 10-15' of movement may well be worth the action to do the attack roll in the right situation.

Moira Ruadh:

Where are you getting that part about object AC = object DC to break? As far as I know, there is no guideposts for object break DC in 5e (i've looked) and it's entirely DM dependent. I.e. some DM's may have a stone pillar DC30 vs. DC15 in another game.

I agree that +15 is great bonus to try and break through something, no doubt.

I guess my issue with it as a practical item, is that its SO situational. It makes me feel it should be MORE powerful than it is to justify one of three attunement slots to have it around as an occasional thing. Because when you do NEED it, you never have time to attune something like that XD

My personal calculus on these options is that I'd rather have the teleport scroll and a way to GTFO if needed for the group as a situational magic item because it's at least not attuned and up to three different characters COULD try to use it in the party.

... plus. How great would it be to teleport back to Nightstone in an emergency and have to do the whole trip over again?!? ^.^

Re: OOC Chat - 005

The conditions for breaking objects vary wildly and are broadly left up to the individual DM to figure out.  For example, the base DC for busting a rope is DC 17 as listed in the item description.  Similar instances appear for things like chains and manacles.  But beyond specific individual items, it's otherwise up in the air.  Object AC values become the next best thing as reference to how difficult an object would be to address - normally if you attack them, you have to both beat the Object AC and deplete its HP.  The Ram ring bypasses that outright, because magic?

But yeah, if we're going for a general purpose "this would be useful in a pinch" item, the Teleport Scroll wins out easily.
