Grant Imahara just died. He was only 49.

Best known for Mythbusters, to me he will always be Sulu (from Star Trek: Continues). :(

My mum's best friend died of heart attack yesterday ... then, that night while she was out at dinner with my sister, her beloved pet drowned in the toilet.

Meanwhile, my mother-in-law (a good friend of mine) is in hospital, probably loosing her long-fought battle with cancer.

2020 doth indeed suck.

So, Mr. GM, do we need something more powerful than a Tricorder to translate?  If so, if we need at least the shuttle's computer, can we at least bring a copy of the database on a Tricorder in case we're cut off from both the ship and shuttle?

No, with the rolls you've already made, you can use a tricorder to translate.  Or dig out an old baton from the locker (universal translator).  It will help to have T'Lara and Decker both present to deal with complex translations; and Nipay might help, if she's not elsewhere. ;)

Uh, just to be clear on the situation, isn't the big door to the outside - the door the shuttle flew through - already open?  Didn't it open up when we scanned the surface from the shuttle? Isn't that how we got in?

I think I see where the confusion is here.

I have assumed (looking back, there is nothing to suggest) that once inside the landing bay, there will be some kind of doors to be opened to leave the bay and enter the artificial, artefact world itself.

My comment:
CDR Naryss ch'Pertha:
"T'Lara, Decker and Javker, please work on getting those doors open".
was referring to those inner doors that I was seeing in my minds eye ... not the great, exit portal doors.


If that is not the case, and we can simply walk on through into the world beyond, ch'Pertha will have directed Javker to assist Mcreeg investigating the shuttle ... while asking Decker and T'Lara to continue scanning and deciphering the symbol.


Yes, we are on some kind of deadline ... but ch'Pertha is willing to spend a little time getting their facts and bearings (and an additional escape route if possible) than charging in.
The Abyss personnel have been here ... how long? ... and can wait another 1/2 hour if need be for ch'Pertha to keep his own team safe.
