Re: OOC

There's a lot of pockets on those field jackets.  You never know. :)

Of course, the Independence crew is outfitted like so:

chronic dehydration would certainly explain some choices that get made in the shows haha!!

Now I want to see Picard pull out a thermos in a crisis.

Re: OOC

Ok, so let’s refresh out memories, and chat about hat we all consider important.
My memory is that ‘rescue the missing Abyss Team was our primary mission.
That from there, with their help and knowledge, we’d work on a solution to the Singularity Tilt.

Re: OOC

In reply to CDR Naryss ch'Pertha (msg # 518):

I don't think so. I went back and re-read everything we've done.

My interpretation is that our primary mission is to save the planet. Unless it's just an amazing coincidence, the science team from the station did something that triggered the artifact, which is causing the radiation jet from the black hole to swivel in the direction of the planet. Even if the population cooperated (which is not at all guaranteed) Independence cannot evacuate more than a tiny percentage, which means unless we can undo the swivel, many sentients are going to die, and it will be our fault.

Yes, while we were here, we wanted to find out what happened to the science team and rescue them if needed/possible, but in the short term that's mainly so they can help us or we can help them to figure what they did and undo it.

I believe.

ETA: I don't know how many is many. It was mentioned that it's a relatively small population, but on a planetary scale I would assume that it's in the hundreds of thousands to millions.

Re: OOC

To clarify one point, the planetary population was stated to be around 1,000 in total.

The Independence has the ability to briefly house the entire population; the trick is, the Prime Directive forbids rescuing them without their consent, and can they get them all aboard in time?  The jet is hours, not days, away from hitting the planet.

Re: OOC

Ok, Starfleet Command, seeing as though you think you know everything:

Was our Primary Mission here to turn off the artificial plant, or save the Starfleet personal ... with the understanding, yes, that if both can be achieved, then awesome.

Subsequently, DO we know how to turn off the artificial planet without trapping ourselves inside?

You say that the Indy CAN house them all ... but they only have hours to achieve that ... and they ought to get the natives permission.
But that is Parry-NPC-Jones' task: her decision, and her NPC part of the story.

It was mentioned there were 'small pockets of survivors' on the planet.  But going back, I only gave an exact number to Dr. Abdool via PM... and sadly she's no longer in the game.

I know it's hard to keep track of things over a long-term slow-moving game.  Captain Rakoto (Captain Parry-Jones was crippled in the line of duty and replaced) is in command of the Independence. And she is working on that very thing right now, in theory.

And your mission was to go into the artifact, see what happened to cause the tilt, see what happened to the landing party, and see if you could do anything about either. Meanwhile, Rakoto and the NPC crew of the ship are trying to convince the Ithik to evacuate.  Nobody has checked in with them for some time.

You don't know how to turn off whatever happened... yet.  But D'rala and Tsolo know what they were doing when things went haywire.  There was a control center they'd found and were working on interfacing with.

Hope that helps - I know it's been a slow burn, and a long while.  Let me know if there are further questions!

Re: OOC

I am under the impression that we cannot even communicate with our shuttle/s just outside the planetary doors ... let alone with our starship on the other side of the solar system, with a black hole dangerously close to it.

Am I wrong?

Sorry, all, I am having to rethink what I though ch'Pertha knew/understood.

Re: OOC

In theory you had the hanger bay doors open, and a cast-rhodinium wrench jammed in the hatchway in case they tried to close.

But, Mcreeg picked up a wash of static following a transmission from Preston, and nothing since.

No further attempts to hail the shuttles, or the Independence, have been made.  You've been a little busy... ;)

Oh, Mr. GM. Not to be excessively nitpicky, but it occurs to me that we probably aren't using handheld communicators. I mean, we might choose to carry one, but I'm pretty sure those are built into the environmental suits.

Also, are the Science team in suits?

You're correct, the team does have hand-helds but is using the suit's helmet comms for the most part.

The station's team (Tsolo, D'rala) are not in suits, but in field jackets, and do have hand-held communicators.
