Re: OOC

I’ve really enjoyed it.
And I think it’s because it feels (to me) like a live action RP of the Star Trek genre, rather than an expensive show, if you know what I mean.

I really like the storyline and character developments, also.

BTW, I'm including the extra yakking about game mechanics for people's benefit... I won't always do so, I just thought you guys would be interested in how the mechanics work. ;)

Re: OOC

System question:

When you take a minor action to set a phaser (to area, or vicious, or whatever) does it stay at that setting or do you have to set it every turn even if you continue to use the same option?

I mean, if you set a phaser to wide-angle or heavy stun or whatever, you'd expect it to stay that way. But I'm not sure that's what the system/mechanics have in mind...

With regards to the momentum spend, I'd say it's usually worth while to keep people conscious and acting. :)

In general, I agree.
I have played characters, it must be said, that are best left unco during combat ... for their own safety, AND that of their allies.

By the letter of the rules, yes, you have to use a minor action each time you fire to give it an effect. Unless you can find something in the book different?

Keep in mind you can perform as many Minor Actions as you wish each Turn.  However only the first one comes with no cost, and each Minor Action may only be performed once per Turn.  Each Minor Action taken after the first one costs 1 Momentum as an Immediate spend.

Some common Minor Actions: Aim, Draw Item, Drop Prone, Interact, Movement, Prepare, Stand.

Agreed!  So I have deducted 1 Momentum thusly.  Ya'll down to 4 now.

Jav'Ker, T'Lara, or Mcreeg may act when ready... let me know if you need any help.

Going to give it a little more time for Jav'Ker, then I'll NPC him.

Mcreeg hasn't logged in in almost a week... not like him, but I hope he's okay.  I can NPC him too if need be, I don't want the game to lose too much momentum (no pun intended).

Re: OOC

Hey, is starship combat supposed to work like this?  Do crew members take turns, or do ships? I don't think The Other Game I was in was doing it quite right...

Re: OOC

Crew members take turns, alternating with NPCs/bad guys.  In ship combat, one player on the ship would act.  The the NPC ship would get an action.  Typically NPC ships get a number of actions equal to their Size Class.  But more fleshed out NPC ships might get more.

Re: OOC

Interesting thing about melee combat.  It's an Opposed Test, which means you and the target both roll Daring+Security with a Difficulty 1.  And the winner does the damage.

So, having T'Lara punch ch'Pertha might not end well for her.

I knew this once, but it's been so long since COVID killed my tabletop game, I'd forgotten.

In reply to Starfleet Command (msg # 425):

With regards to ship-to-ship combat:

But any given action can only be taken once in a round, right?

For instance, ch'Pertha takes his action. Then the enemy ship does. It fires.

Now Decker takes an action. And then the enemy ship takes another action. But it can't fire a second time, can it?

Re: OOC

It can't fire the same weapon again.  If it has two dedicated weapons officers and two different weapons, it could fire again with the second weapon, in theory.

Re: OOC

So, for clarifications, please:
SFC:
That's 6 damage to ch'Pertha.  He has 18 Stress, but any hit of 5 or more causes an Injury.

So, ch'Pertha initially took 6 Stress from Javkar2's shot, which resulted in a 'KOed' Injury.
But I spent 1 Momentum to Avoid the Injury ... but still take the stress.

SFC:
Phaser damage.That's 2 damage, 2 more Stress to ch'Pertha.

Then he took '2 more Stress' from T'Lara2's shot.

Therefore, ch'Pertha currently has taken 8 Stress, right?  but no Injury?

Now, my character sheet says ch'Pertha has only 16 Stress.
Which is correct, please ... my character sheet, or the ST's calculation above?

... and please, of the five clines that ch'Pertha and Javkar are assailing, how many are 'down', 'in a bad way' and 'still in the fight'?

Re: OOC

Ch'Pertha should start with 16 Stress, and he's down to 8 at the moment. He spent Momentum to Avoid an Injury, but can't do that again this scene until he has a chance to perform a Recovery action.

Of the clones, ch'Pertha 2.0 is down, Mcreeg is in a bad way, and Decker is beaten up and down (but not out).  Both Decker and T'Lara 2.0 will have to perform minor actions to stand up if they want to fight from anything but a prone position.  Same with Mcreeg, except a strong breeze will knock him over.  JavKer 2.0 is in fighting trim and on his feet.  But, he just missed his 'Original' with a phaser.

And of course, Decker has somehow accidentally managed to take down the 'Starfleet security officer' with a lucky shot.  He was probably aiming at the ceiling. :)

Well, no, with a Daring of 7 they probably didn't...

OK.  So my phaser shot final roll is a 1 and a 20, and I'm not too versed in the rules.
is it still a hit, despite the complication?

Re: OOC

It is! Other than adding complications (or threat) 20's don't count as an automatic failure on the attempt or anything. You still got two successes.

Of course, if Dale is feeling evil, your phaser may have just run out of juice. Are you sure you charged it up before the mission? ;)

Decker is correct!  You'll hit, and can roll damage.  But a Complication results (which may just be me banking some Threat).
