Re: OOC

"We learn by doing." ;)

Kind of a toss-up between mission profiles... "Multi-Role Explorer" or "Tactical Operations".  The shipframe has a built-in bonus to Science, Conn and Command.  Either way, she'll be decent at both roles.  Any thoughts?

In reply to Starfleet Command (msg # 16):

I'm sure our Andorian Chief of Security would love to be assigned to a ship with all the heavy weapons stripped off so we can go catalog gaseous anomalies. ;)  Mind you, they sent the Excelsior on the same mission and I'm pretty sure she was still fully armed...

Nothing wrong with keeping your options open!

I think I'll go with the Denobulan.

Engineering will be more than capable for preparing a multi-role ship for any contingency.

Re: OOC

How's it going folks?

I'll work on the ship stats this weekend.  Gullak and Naryss are generated.  Anybody need help with their character, or anything else?

For some reason I thought we were waiting for you to give us a bit more on the campaign. I was also expecting to get an email notification when someone posted, so I didn't check here until tonight.

I rolled up a character, but he came out pretty grim. I'll try again during daylight hours and see if I can put together some less depressing values!

In reply to Naryss ch'Pertha (msg # 24):

It wasn't the numbers that were grim, it was the character itself!

The movies set in that era do tend that way. Perhaps I'll aim more for a IV and V (yes, I said it!) feel. ;)

Re: OOC

I guess I thought the background was evident, but hey.  My bad.

The ship is a Miranda-class cruiser, boldly going where Starfleet needs her to go.  The time is right about the time of "The Wrath of Khan" in the 2280s.

"Grim" is fine if you like it, but by all means, play a character you will enjoy.  The 80's Trek films varied in tone from grim (ST II) to REALLY grim (ST III) to downright cheery (ST IV).

The movies that occur in this immediate timeframe are ST II, III, and IV, with V a nudge further off, and VI years after that.

If there are any SPECIFIC questions I'm failing to answer, by all means ask.  In fact, if there are ANY questions you have, ask.  :)

Re: OOC

In reply to Starfleet Command (msg # 26):

Okay, introducing Lt. Commander Christopher Decker, Chief Science Officer

Christopher is another Starfleet brat. His parents are still serving in Starfleet - his father is a diplomat, until recently on Vulcan, now reassigned back to Earth during the Genesis crisis. His mother is a computer scientist assigned as a liaison with the Vulcan Science Academy.

He seems a little weak as far as senior officer material goes, but he is very competent within his fields. He has a broad range of specialties, including astrophysics, geology, and several biological sciences. He's also been in the right place at the right time to acquire a few notable commendations and has very favorable family connections which explain this rather desirable posting.

In reply to Starfleet Command (msg # 31):

LCDR Decker most certainly did not attend Command School. In fact, I'd have made him a Lieutenant except I thought that was probably too junior to be a department head. I'm not sure I'd put him below the janitors, but if he's given the conn the ship is in a great deal of trouble indeed.

Also, if the ship only has the 6 banks of phasers mounted on the saucer, what are those things on the corners of the roll bar?  I assume the heavy phasers were replaced by high intensity sensor pods linked directly to the warp drive, right???

A Science Officer can always dream...

Re: OOC

Actual progress today getting our CO and Helmsman generated. :)

As for Decker's place in the chain of command, that's hard to say at this stage.  He's on the senior staff, so he's actually way above the janitor. ;)

Those ship specs are just a placeholder from the Daystrom Institute.  But yeah, that thing on top isn't a torpedo launcher... it's a probe launcher... yeah, that's the ticket... :)

FASA had the Bader class scout - the only scout without photon torpedo tubes. SUPER popular with their Starfleet crews.  I am amused by the idea of an advanced rapid-fire fore-and-aft probe launcher, though.
