Cool. I believe in the bridge picture, the science console is/would be at the bottom where the cut out is. Clockwise from there is Communications, (the turbolift), Engineering, and Tactical. Seems small, but at least all of us have a seat. ;)

Re: OOC

OK gang we are almost ready to start.

At this point, our medical staff is purely NPC, although our CSO has a biology/medical background.

We also need an XO.  Given the crew size, I'm thinking Naryss could double as SecChief and XO, if the player's interested... much in the way Spock doubled as XO and CSO.  Alternately, the XO could be an NPC.

I'll be using some time today to create some NPCs to fill in the crew.  Any questions, let me know!  There is also a great "Supporting Character" mechanic in STA that we will use when needed to keep a player involved, when their character is "offscreen". :)

Oh, hey. Has anyone had success requesting additional character profile picture additions?  I saw the process for doing so, but I also saw a message on the general forums from a year or so ago stating that no more additions would be made.

Re: OOC

As far as who's "Third in Command" aka 2nd Officer... most likely it would situationally be JavKer or Decker, in much the same way Sulu or Scotty was 3rd in command, depending on the episode / sitch. ;)

To my knowledge, you can still submit a picture.  Also, if looking for a "better" one, look through all the categories.  The actor/actress headshot is probably more important than whether they're wearing a Starfleet Uniform or not. :)

for me it wasn't the uniform or not, it was finding one close to the right age that didn't have long or dark hair :)

Can I please help with the security cast?
If you tell me how many, I'll give you names and (depending on what you ask for) their strongest non-Security Discipline, and say two focuses.   Alternately, I'll give you a complete character sheet (for you to edit.

Re: OOC

And my vote is that you start us off in the thick of the action.

It needn't be (but can be) a combat situation ... but make it something tense, that requires our direct and immediate involvement.
It might be a tense Diplomatic situation, or some kind of social gathering.  It might be a mystery, or we might be caught in some kind of crisis situation.

But the whole, we meet in a tavern the conference room to introduce ourselves is boring as hell.
And most good movies/TV episodes begin with something interesting already happening.

Re: OOC

Hey, Command.      If you were to:
- change our names to include our rank      and
- change our tags to indicate our department

We could then use our Bio-lines for:
- cool comments, like you have         Or
- logging our Health and Determination Points (or such)

Re: OOC

So Dale has invited each of us to this game, for he feels some strange kinship with each.
But we don't know each other from a bar of soap.
So, by way of introduction, I offer the following unto you all ...

My name is Sean.
Hailing from Brisbane in Australia, I am 48 years old, married, with one daughter who is my heart personified.

I've been roleplaying since High School ... so that'd be about 30+ years now.
For me, it's all about the creativity and story-making.  Even when I play board games.
Oh, and the socialising.

I work Security for the Police Department; and have been in Security a good dozen or so years.

I've never travelled much: to my regret.  It's likely that (with a seven year old just beginning her school life) that travel will become an old man's unfulfilled dream.
But alas!

I'm not a 'Trekkie' by definition, but enjoy the franchise, as much as Rowlings 'Wizarding World', the Star Wars sagas, and all manner of fantasy and Sci-fi.

Re: OOC

In reply to Naryss ch'Pertha (msg # 54):

My name is Jeff.  I live in the North Bay, about an hour north of San Francisco.  I'm 47. I work in the telecom industry for a company that supplies and maintains telephone, paging, and other low-voltage cabling systems for retail customers (grocery stores and the like). I've been in the industry, although not this particular niche, for about 25 years now.

I've been a life-long Trekkie. As far back as my childhood memories go I remember watching Original series reruns in the 70s. I tinkered with role playing games as far back as 1981 when I played in a short Runequest campaign run at the local rec center and was gifted one of the red box D&D Basic sets. The first RPG I ever bought, though, was FASA's original Star Trek game around 1983. That being said, I've always been more of a board or miniature gamer than a roleplayer, but I have done my share.

I've known Dale for close to 25 years now. That's right. This year is Dundracon 43. I found the Final Frontier game we first met at in the Dundracon 20 program just now.  Yes, we met when he was helping to produce and demo a Star Trek miniatures game back in the 90's.

I tend to be verbose.

Re: OOC

Hi,

I'm Chip, yes that's my name, Dale and I have been laughing about it alot.

I met him thru a game he was running on here, our styles meshed and so did our senses of humor, and we became friends.

I'm an entertainer, a fire-eater and manipulator, with a day job as the executive assistant to a pair of balloon artists.

I'm 54 :)

I've been gaming for as long as I can remember, mostly superhero systems, but I've played a few different Star Trek games among others. Found the original TV series in re-runs, have seen every episode of all the rest of the shows, even the newest stuff.

I was the first person I know of to combine ape and old school red shirt, now that cross over is everywhere :)

I tend to be verbose as well :)

Re: OOC

Oh my god, am I actually the youngest in the game at 45?! I haven't been the youngest at anything in at least 20 years.

I'm Shelley. My work history is nowhere near as quotable as Chip's. I'm a lawyer who now ghost-writes for other lawyers, and I homeschool my 11-year-old. (Go ahead, judge. I'm from Portland and as long as it's silent judging, I'm immune.) I speak crap German, am re-learning French, and am actively working on Welsh.

I met Dale in 1989, right after the earthquake, I think. Everything good in my life that's happened since is because he taught me to play Champions back in the day. Seriously.

I'm rusty, gaming-wise, and will be leaning on my husband heavily for Trek details, but I am so looking forward to playing with you all!

I got through my afternoon thinking I was the youngest. I'm good.

And jeez, you all have better jobs than I do. James, I'm sure you have an NDA but you have GOT to give us a little gossip! Just a teeny bit!

By the way, as the moment is upon us, it occurs to me to mention that I've never RP'd like this (through an online forum). So it'll be a bit of a learning experience for me.

I believe I would roll Science + Reason (17), assisted by the ship's Sensors (9) + Science (3)

Awesome.  This is exactly why I like to have some practise rolls.

So:
1/ we used different rolls: which was correct/appropriate please?   And why?
2/ can we add in Ship Disciplines to our rolls? Please explain?
