Re: OOC

A note on skill rolls.

Given the format of a play-by-post, people may make rolls without waiting for me to tell them the difficulty.  But, in the event that it's a no-brainer... i.e., no roll would be needed... there won't be any Momentum generated from said roll.

In other words, you can't go to the loo, say, "I try to unclog the toilets.  Daring + Engineering!" and roll some bones to generate Momentum out of nowhere. ;)

Not that you guys would, but just wanna set the boundaries a tad. ;)

In reply to Starfleet Command (msg # 114):

But if I don't make a Control + Medicine, how will we know if I made a truly EPIC sandwich???

(and don't try and tell me that a really excellent sandwich for lunch doesn't generate a bit of momentum going into the afternoon...)

Also, more seriously, can/do I wait to get the basic result of my sensor skill check before performing my immediate Obtain Information spend?  I'd think I'd need the context in order to ask an intelligent question. :P

Re: OOC

I'M BACK.

Actually, I'm finally here. The two projects I've been buried under since before Christmas are finally in stages of competition and (god willing) all that's left is the invoicing. So apologies for being absent!

Dale, dude! BRING IT ON!

It just occurred to me that we have less momentum than we thought. On my roll in message #39 I only scored three successes, because I did not have an applicable focus.

Re: OOC

Don't worry about it, your last scan generated more Momentum than you needed for an Immediate Spend (there's only so much info you can glean).  So we'll call it even... and with your latest roll, the Momentum Pool is back at 6. ;)

If snowed in like the forecasters are saying, I may be running a Champions game for Matthew (husband) and Eden (my 11 year old). Thoughts and prayers, guys. Thoughts and prayers.

I'm a fourth edition (BBB) girl! I still have a program on my 90s-era HP-48 RPN calculator which will tally body and stun for me. :) Not as satisfying as rolling 20d6, say, but a lot faster as a GM, for sure.

Re: OOC

So as I continue to get my head around the rules, please:
LCDR Naryss ch'Pertha:
- rolled  3,16,7.  Insight+Security (15) +Momentum die.
- 'Espionage' Focus
- Constantly Watching:   When you attempt a Task to detect danger or hidden enemies, reduce the Difficulty by 1.

= 4 Successes at -1 Difficulty
Starfleet Command:
OOC: ch'Pertha rolled 3 successes, with a -1 to the Difficulty due to his Talent.  In the situation, the Difficulty would be 4, reduced to 3 by his talent.

I counted four successes there, but the ST counts 3.  Please, what am I not realising/knowing yet?

Re: OOC

The 3 is worth two successes as it is below your discipline, and your focus applies. The 7 is worth 1. And the 16 isn’t worth anything - it’s over your trait + discipline (15).

Re: OOC

Difficulty is how many successes you need - not your target number. I think that’s where the confusion lies...

Ahhhh.  Yes, of course.     Focuses only apply to die rolls under ‘Discipline’,  not under ‘Attr + Disc’.
I got you.   Thanks.
