Re: OOC

Fellow Trekkies (Trekkers?), I'd like to bring this to your attention.

TNG supporting actor Michael Braveheart is in dire straights, both financially and health-wise.  The Native American actor appeared in TNG, a few of the TNG movies, VOY and ENT as well.

https://memory-alpha.fandom.co...i/Michael_Braveheart

He's got a GoFundMe to try to avoid eviction and meet his medical bills.  I've chipped in what I can, and if you're in a place to do so, I'd encourage you to do the same.  This isn't an A-lister, but a working actor who was onscreen for a lot of our TV time.

GoFundMe here:  https://gofund.me/f07848d2

Whether you can or can't contribute, please do share around your circles where others might be interested!

Re: OOC

Yeah it is.  Which is why I felt the need to share and donate.  The note of despair in Michael's last GoFundMe post was pretty heartbreaking to me.

I dunno, I ain't rich, but this hit close to home so I'm doing what I can.

Re: OOC

I don't know how many GM's use this function, but there is a second way to give information to a player than a private message, I think it is called secret, and to the player expected to read it, it just looks like part of the post.

With more sophisticated players I like to use it, though it requires paying more attention, I find it works really well at time.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's use was very, very rare however.

Re: OOC

I would expect in a game like this, unless there is a need for secrecy, everything (to every character) will be public, and will be considered shared with all.
That, to me, is the Startrek feel.

Re: OOC

Just so I understand, please clarify if I am wrong, but we are still outside the Oort cloud. We are still ten or more light minutes away from the planet, depending on where it is in its orbit, correct?

Re: OOC

Mr GM - are we able to get a decent scan of the planet at this distance, on this side of the Oort cloud?

Does a probe (in this era) have the speed/range/and sensory ability to assist?

Also, how many probes do we have? We've already deployed 3.

Re: OOC

Detailed scans of the planet at this range are impossible due to the interference of the Oort cloud.  It's particularly dense, as noted earlier.

Probes in this era are impulse speed, so... would take a while to reach a good scanning range.

And, 37. :P

Good, then when they are in position ... we scan the planet's surface.
No problem's, right?

Just out of curiosity, approx how long are we talking when you say 'a while to reach ...'

Re: OOC

In reply to CPT Naryss ch'Pertha (msg # 1005):

Well....

This is different than our real world Oort cloud, which extends 3/4 of the way to Alpha Proxima. But the inner edge of it is about 74 trillion kilometers to the surface of the Sun.

It's about 2.85 light days. The earth is 8.3 light minutes closer.

Impulse is generally 1/4 light speed.

So...at Impulse, it would take 10 days to get to Earth from the inner edge of the Oort cloud.

It's only about 5.5 light hours from Pluto to the Sun, though. So 20 hours at Impulse.

I think in the Motion Picture they waited to get out of the solar system before trying to engage the Warp Drive (in retrospect, a pretty good idea!) but this is also why they usually drop out of warp shortly before going into orbit. Solar systems are big! It's also why TNG era warp-capable probes are a pretty big deal.

We could always throw some redshirts in a shuttle craft and send them in (I don't care what the book says, TOS shuttle craft had to be warp capable).

Re: OOC

Not being particularly scientific or Trekkie, I am in the unknown of these things.
I am assuming that if narrativium doesn't take care of these matters and explicate matters, the GM will inform me that my character knows better ... and I'll compensate.

Done guys.  Sorry for the delay.  Just got home from work.

Beat, but gonna do an update tonight... been to long.  On that note, we've lost our new Chief of Security.  No explanation given, but probably due to pace.

Rather than a lot of pretzel-twisting to explain her absence, I'm just gonna retcon it and say she never existed.  Current CTAC would be ch'Pertha's original picks... Stirling for ground-pounding and E'Detra for shipboard.

As an aside, I think assigning the two supporting security guys to the shuttle would be a fair idea.  More redshirts! ;)
