Re: OOC

Starfleet, Please tell us more about this ‘Rally’ task.
I assume it’s something that any of us can do with our subordinates?

And I’m happy for you to run with my Eng task result: I’m just doing it to help out, and entertain myself.

Re: OOC

I suggest, to speed things up, just make the roll, and note your focus.
StarDale can easily identify and calculate your results then.

When you make your roll, just roll the 3 dice;  the first are your 2, andatter is the ship’s 1.

LT JG Xanatos Mcreeg:
OOC: 20:19, Today: LT JG Xanatos Mcreeg rolled 37 using 3d20.  control + con = 15 focus helm operations?

Just as a note, if you can remember to check the ‘Record each die’ button.
That way you can see which die we’re successes, and which did not.

As your post stands we can’t see that: but 37 with 3 dice = average of 12.something.
So we can assume that your two dice succeed; and if your Focus is relevant, that’s 4 successes.
+ any success E’Detra can provide.

I remember it was a 14, a 3 and a 20 in that order..

I'll remember the record all dice from now on.

Rally is typically done only by the CO (or XO if in command).  It can only be done once per scene.  It's mainly for generating momentum, but it also invites a good speech. ;)

There are other ways you assist a subordinate.  I'll add that to the mechanics when I get a chance.

Off to Rura Penthe for me... I mean, work... ;)

Re: OOC

Whoops! Totally missed the bit about the good speech. Next time. :)

I was thinking we should agree on a verb tense so that some of us aren't using present and some aren't using past. I've always used present when playing games, but PBEM/post are a different kettle of fish.

Thoughts?

In reply to CDR Ffion Parry-Jones (msg # 98):

I'd agree. Present tense makes the most sense and would seem to work best with the style of play.

Re: OOC

I’ve always found that past tense works best with written posting ... as it creates a more narrative feel when rereading the story later.

I'm pro-present, but I agree post-game reading through the past tense makes sense. I've run and played PBEM in present tense, then (if it was going to be posted online for others) gone through and did a tense change. (It was a lot of work, but it was back when I had free time.)

Re: OOC

LCDR Christopher Decker:
The Science department rating is 3, so a roll of 5 only achieves 1 success.

Ok.  I was under the belief that ...
LCDR Christopher Decker:
A ship does not have focuses, but treats every task that it attempts or aids as if it has one that applies. So it will score 2 successes on a roll that is equal to or less than the applicable department.

And as the ship’s Sensors+Science is (12), that seems to me to be a successful roll, which = 2 Successes.

I know I’m still learning this system, so if someone more knowledgeable could explain, I’d be awfully grateful.

Re: OOC

In reply to LCDR Naryss ch'Pertha (msg # 102):

You're close. :)

So ship's have Systems (Communications, Computers, Engines, Sensors, Structure, and Weapons) and they have Departments (Command, Conn, etc.).  Systems are like player Attributes and Departments are the same as player Disciplines.

When a ship assists a player, it gets/adds 1 die.

And, as you mentioned, ship's don't have specific focuses (this is due to the wide range of skills and equipment comprising a ship), but are treated as if they always have an applicable one. That means that they 'crit' (score two successes) whenever the ship die rolls equal to or less than it's department rating.  If the roll is between the department rating and the department + system, it'll score a single success. If the roll is above department + system, it scores 0 successes. And, of course, a 20 is a botch.

In this case, with Sensors = 9 and Science = 3, the basic target number is 12 and the crit threshold is 3. If I'd rolled a 3 or less on the ship die, I (the ship) would have scored 2 successes. If I'd rolled between 4 and 12, it would have scored 1 success. If I'd rolled 13 or higher, zero.

Please remind this failing unit:  Momentum is a Group Pool (we individuals do not possesses one ourselves), and is capped (at 5 or 6?), right?

Correct. Normally capped at 6.

Hey, Dale, if we're capped at 6 and I take a sensor action (which generates a bonus momentum which can only be used to Obtain Information) and I immediately spend it, does our Momentum drop to 5 or is it unaffected by the cap?
