Re: Abyss Station - Ancient Artifact

Decker chuckled dryly as he began his scan, "Very well, Lieutenant. But let's focus. Whoever is underneath all this might outrank you."

Spending 1 momentum for an extra die.
18:33, Today: LCDR Christopher Decker rolled 43 using 3d20 with rolls of 20,17,6.  Scanning the debris pile for a clear shot: Reason(12) + Engineering(2) - 3 dice (1 momentum).
1 success. 1 complication.
Crap. Hopefully whoever is underneath the the debris doesn't outrank him.

As serious as everything is, Mcreeg has to laugh..

"That would be just my luck"

Focusing again, listening to directions, he activates his phaser, being as careful as he can..taking his time, doing his best to control his breathing..

19:41, Today: LT JG Xanatos Mcreeg rolled 37 using 2d20 with rolls of 17,20.  control (11) +sec (3) diff 2 focus: phasers.

Re: Abyss Station - Ancient Artifact

Mildly sedated, T'Lara was as happiest she's been since she set foot at the station.  Here, they've just (finally) found survivors from the old away team. LIVING survivors!

She curiously looked down at the woman trapped underneath the wreckage and examined her injuries, who seemed to be very light indeed.  At least comparing to a man who had his head blown off, or the bio-goo-man that clang to the ceiling at the corridor behind them

OOC: three successes on insight + medicine (diff 2). spent one momentum, gained one momentum.

Re: Abyss Station - Ancient Artifact

Despite a slight sense of disorientation, T'Lara is able to expertly identify exactly where D'rala's ankle is pinned.  Under her direction, JavKer applies some leverage using a fallen conduit and pries the wreckage up just enough that the Orion can slide her leg free!

Meanwhile, Decker confidently points out to Mcreeg where to cut.  The helmsman fires his phaser, a blue-white beam lancing into the wreckage...

But whatever the phaser cut through... living or not... the beam hit something that reflected it.  The beam lanced back out of the wreckage at a random angle and tore into a wall.

There was a low bass thrumm.  Ch'Pertha intuitively recognized it as an alert signal. His antennae perked, he turned on instinct to face deeper into the station... just in time to see a looming figure appear at the junction beyond.

It was some kind of robot, with multiple arms and a glowing central eye.  And as it raised its arms, there was a low hum of powered menace...

Re: Abyss Station - Ancient Artifact

D'rala gives the vulcan woman a smile as she examines her injuries. "No surprises hopefully," she remarks. Once declared largely uninjured, it's yet another piece of relief.

She holds as still as she can as the Tellarite causes the beam to lift away from her ankle. When D'rala feels the cold metal disappear, she yanks her leg from the wreckage, and scrambles out of the way. It takes her a moment to push herself to her feet, with her leg half-numb.

She's about to start asking her rescuers questions when the phaser shot goes haywire.

Having already come toe to toe with this place (and lost), D'rala braces herself as soon as she sees the reflected beam tear into the wall.

OOC: can only Ch'Pertha see the murderbot rn or can we all see it? Might add a bit if I would reasonably be seeing it :)

Re: Abyss Station - Ancient Artifact

As the Murderbot came into view, ch'Pertha caught sight.   He didn't react violently, by raising his own weapon, until he could see that it seemed to be doing so itself.  Then, he waited no longer.

"EVERYONE DOWN", he yelled, as he thumbed his phaser to the maximum effect it could produce, and shot directly for the creatures eyes.
('If you can't see, you can't fight', as the old adage goes.  And besides, if he missed, he might just hit it in the face ... and he rationed that its sensory array would be built into that)

- rolled 6,14,2,3.  Daring+Security(16) + 2 momentum.
I don't know how 'take a called shot' in this system, but aiming for the head/eyes.
Also, I wish I had a Focus in Phaser, with this roll of the die ... Am I allowed to spend a Momentum for effect that?

Is there anything else I can do to enhance the roll? I don't have my books here, but remember that other stuff on the character sheet can be used at times.

Re: Abyss Station - Ancient Artifact

Even as the moaning scream echoed from under the wreckage, D'rala could see the dreaded security bot slide into view.  They'd fought one before... and barely escaped with their lives!

But ch'Pertha was nothing if not fast on the draw.  His phaser shot lanced out...

OOC: Buying a 2nd die costs 2 momentum, plus the 1 Momentum for the first extra die.  So, that's 3 Momentum spent... which is all that's in the pool.

Difficulty on the usual ranged shot is 2, and you netted 4 successes.  That gives you back 2 Momentum, which you can bank, or spend to increase damage or damage penetration.  Sadly, you can't spend Momentum to give you a Focus.  But, after this adventure, you could spend a Milestone to change one Focus to another.  But that's a conversation for later.

Looking at the Immediate Spends for Momentum, based on your description of your intent, I'd suggest spending 2 Momentum for "Create an Advantage", temporarily blinding the robot.

Or, you could spend 1 Momentum per point to add +1 Damage to your Damage Total.

Or, you could spend 1 Momentum to ignore 2 Resistance on the target, repeatable (so spending both would get you -4 to target's Resistance.)

1 Momentum lets you pick and choose dice to reroll if you wish, for the damage you do.

And of course, you can spend 2 Momentum for "Keep the Initiative", which passes the next action on to a PC instead of the enemy.

In any case, you would roll 8d6 for damage.  Oh, and escalating to lethal force grants me 1 Threat to the pool. :)

Re: Abyss Station - Ancient Artifact

Ooookay!
Rolling 8d6 for damage:
- rolled 24 using 8d6 with rolls of 3,5,4,1,2,3,5,1.
Spending 1 Momentum to reroll all the dice except the two '5's.
- rolled 19 using 6d6 with rolls of 3,2,4,5,4,1.   + 5,5 from above.   = 29
and spend 2nd Momentum to decrease the bot's Resistance by 2.

Which I'm not happy with.
I was going to take your advice on the 'blind em', but after rolling my damage dice, felt I had to blowing a Momentum to reroll that crap; and getting very little different, annoys me.

Re: Abyss Station - Ancient Artifact

Let me step in here since you obviously don't have your rulebook in front of you.

A roll of 1 = 1 damage.
2 = 2 damage.
3, 4 = 0 damage.
5 or 6 = 1 damage + 1 effect.

So, looking at your first roll, you scored 6 damage + 2 effects.

I would say you could skip the reroll and go for the Blinding Advantage if you wanted to.

Oh, yes, I forgot.  Thank you.

Yes, then please use the first set of damage rolls, plus spend the 2 Momentum for the Advantage: Temporarily Blind.

Please, remind me what the '+2 effects' means?

D’rala dives to the floor behind a beam as soon as the automated guard comes into view. If either of the two officers who helped free her are close enough (and willing), she would attempt to pull them down to a safe hidden position with her.

She quickly assesses which pieces of equipment she’s managed to keep on her person throughout the ordeal.

Ooc: what items would she still have do you think?

Re: Abyss Station - Ancient Artifact

OCC: Effects count as damage. They may also trigger other effects if you're using a weapon or mode that keys off of them. For instance, if you'd spent a Momentum (in advance) to set your phaser to Vicious, each effect rolled would add an additional damage (so, two total per effect rolled). If you set it to Intense, each effect rolled would increase the momentum cost to avoid an injury by one. If you set your phaser to Area, each effect rolled would .... well, go read the rules. ;) Otherwise it just counts as damage.

Re: Abyss Station - Ancient Artifact

OOC: Also, you can spend a Minor Action to set your phaser using its Charge ability, instead of Momentum.

The phaser blast struck the looming robot dead in the visor... optical sensors... eyes... whatever it had.  Although the blast should have taken its head clean off, it seemed more resistant than current technology would account for.  The blast did rock it back, though, and it seemed disoriented (and temporarily blinded).

This caused it to fall back through the doorway it had entered for a moment, running its repair protocol to clear its vision. Although behind the doorway, part of it was still visible, and it could be heard humming there menacingly.

D'rala acted next, diving for cover and pulling JavKer and T'Lara down with her in a tumble. Despite the jagged bits of wreckage, the pair's suits protected them from any minor abrasions.

OOC: D'rala still has all her phaser and tricorder, and her communicator is nearby on the ground where she couldn't reach it previously, but her phaser is running low on charge, so she shouldn't hose shots around indiscriminately.

D'rala and ch'Pertha have acted, as has the robot (removing the blindness complication and moving to cover).  Over to another PC to act!

Re: Abyss Station - Ancient Artifact

T'Lara looked at the murderbot with a inquisitive look once it appeared behind the corner.  Feeling mellow under the affects of the drug, she didn't seek cover until the very moment it opened fire.  Luckily, the green-skinned woman she rescued a moment earlier was quicker on the uptake, and pulled her over to safety just in time

"Thanks!" she shook her head, and reached out for her own phaser.

OOC: minor action to take the 'prone' action behind the pile of debris.  And a phaser attack vs the robot:

19:47, Today: LCDR T'Lara rolled 13 using 4d6 with rolls of 1,5,1,6.  phaser damage.
19:47, Today: LCDR T'Lara rolled 16 using 2d20 with rolls of 1,15.  Phaser!

Pretty good, actually.  Should be a hit if the difficulty is the standard 2, and 4 damage with 2 effects.

T'Lara's phaser shot lanced out, but only glanced the robot, hitting what was peeking out from behind cover.  There was a shimmering effect, as if the 'bot was sheathed in some tight-fitting force field.  It staggered a bit, but seemed undaunted.

ch'Pertha, D'rala and T'Lara have acted this round, as has the robot.  Remaining PCs may act!

Decker spun around on one knee in time to see T'Lara's phaser blast deflected. Rather than setting down his tricorder to contribute his meager skills with a phaser, he refocused it on the robot, and its defenses in particular.

22:48, Today: LCDR Christopher Decker rolled 46 using 3d20 with rolls of 19,10,17.  Scanning to reveal weakness - Reason(12)+Science(5) plus a Momentum die.
Two successes?

Decker's tricorder scan of the robot was garbled by its defensive field... not to mention the fluctuating gravity fields, hyperalloy walls, and what have you... but he was able to parse the refresh rate of the 'bot's field.

OOC: Decker succeeds, barely!  Difficulty was 2.  The next attack made before the end of his NEXT turn (by a PC) gets Piercing 2 as an advantage.

I believe that's every PC except Tsolo, who's dead thanks to Decker's incompetence*... oh wait, I forgot Mcreeg.  Over to you, Mcreeg! :)

17:23, Today: Starfleet Command, on behalf of LT JG Xanatos Mcreeg, rolled 18 using 2d20 with rolls of 11,7.  Free Tsolo.

There was a spark and flash and then the bulk of the hull that was trapping Tsolo fell aside with a heavy clank!

But Tsolo found the room full of bright spots, blinded from the earlier mishap.

ch'Pertha was either in the bloodlust of battle, or adamantly trying to protect his people as they rescued their Starfleet comrades.
Either way, he moved quickly into a better field to fire from, adjusting his T2 Phaser as he went ... then fired again on the robot.
It was as though he was trying to force backwards, away into that corridor, where it couldn't aim for his crew.

Use the 'Prepare' minor action to set Phaser to 'Vicious 1'
...  and, if I many please borrow "The next attack made before the end of his NEXT turn (by a PC) gets Piercing 2 as an advantage" ...
- rolled 14 using 2d20 with rolls of 13,1.  Control+Security(13) to Shoot the MurderBot.
- rolled 26 using 8d6 with rolls of 6,1,5,4,1,2,3,4.  for Damage to the MurderBot
Which seems to me to result in 6 damage with 2 Effects?
Which mean -2 to the Bot's total resistance, and +2 damage?  if I have understood those rules correctly.

Re: Abyss Station - Ancient Artifact

OOC: Excellent, you got the rules perfectly.  Difficulty of ranged combat is 2 normally, and you got 3 successes.  The bot had some cover, but his shot rang true (-1 damage from cover Resistance Dice).

The phaser blast struck the ancient robot dead on, right where Decker had indicated to fire, and there was a flare as the bot's shields flared.  It avoided some of the blast behind the doorway, but not enough.  Sparks flew and it staggered back out of sight, trailing smoke.

OOC: The robot has 3 Resistance, +1 from Cover, -2 from Piercing 2.  8 damage -2 = 6, which is enough to inflict an Injury.

Combat is now over, and the players may act normally!
