Re: Abyss Station - Ancient Artifact

his heart catches and his eyes grow wide in his helmet when he finally hears something, then realizing it's so identical to the last message he received even as Mcreeg keys his commlink, hoping they can hear him even a little..

"Lt. Nipay, this is Mcreeg, I received your message, can you hear me?"

The silence as he waits for a response is almost painful, but he's not ready to alert his crewmates yet, wanting to have more to tell them this time..

Re: Abyss Station - Ancient Artifact

As Starfleet Command hast responded to T'Lara's attempts (msg 338 above), I am going to assume that she succeeds; and with her successful scans, and Decker's descriptions, we can start heading towards said workroom where the transmission is coming from.

With Saghalie up and supported, the group was in a position to move.
ch'Pertha led the way, as always, watchful for threats ... and he took guidance from T'Lara who had a scan lock on the transmission point, Decker who had located that point, and Vex who'd been to (hopefully and apparently) to that room.

By his calculations, they had half an hour before the Black Hole (irritated by this place's activation) slice a line of no return through that planet out there.

Please, SFC, how long has it taken us to come from the surface to this point.
If we turned back now, with a wounded Saghalie, how long would we expect to take getting back to our entry point?

In reply to CDR Naryss ch'Pertha (msg # 352):

Sorry, been tied up answering a slew of PMs.

Yes, T'Lara still has the lock that she and Decker had established on the nearest transmission point they were receiving from.

As for time passed, given the cautious approach you'd taken and the strange encounters, it's been about an hour.  Unencumbered, you could make it back to the shuttle in 10 minutes, going the way you came, but Tsolo is going to slow you down a little.  His vision should recover shortly, but until then, he can't really run safely. Say 15 minutes to make it back helping him along.

And as Tsolo and D'rala can tell you when it becomes relevant, the control interface they had found line up with the transmission point T'Lara has a lock on.  It's only about a couple minutes walk away.

D'rala helps T'lara hold Saghalie steady as the group prepares to get the move on.

"Ready on our end," she says, when the two women have mutually agreed they've got it down, and Saghalie seems able to move.

The allure of leaving this cursed place is almost palpable, but she keeps herself steeled. Who knows what's to come before they can make their escape.

With the injured Lieutenant taken care of, and T'Lara tracking the communication signal, Decker drew out his trusty tricorder and began scanning for any new signs of danger. He mainly focused on the path ahead of the party, but occasionally did a quick sweep behind as well.

He talks a breath to calm himself, to focus so he's sure he has it all straight in his head..

"Tis is what I got from Nipay the first time..it's almost identical to what I reported before"

Mcreeg pauses, then contiues..

"...out of nowhere... Preston... gravity web destroyed... Sacajawea... couldn't... do you read?" I responded that I did, asking if she could read me and this is what I then received

Again a pause before continuing..

"...barely... you... couldn't stop... inbound..."

He fights back a sigh, for some reason relating what he'd heard seems to make it more real..

"How would you like me to respond?, Commander"

T'Lara looked sideways at Mcreeg. If the Gravity web was destroyed (who destroyed it?) they couldn't go back to their shuttle without being crushed by the hypergravity.

As he moved along, letting T'Lara lead the way and scanning for dangers, Decker addressed D'rala, "Since leaving doesn't seem to be an option, it seems like we're going to have to give this another try. Can you tell me what your team did leading up to the artifacts reaction?"

OOC: Since we were briefed on the team, presumably we'd know who these people were and what roles they played. So, what roles did Tsolo and D'rala play? :)

Not being given any direct orders, Mcreeg does his best to keep the connection with LT Nipay open, even as he has his phaser ready, eyes scanning everywhere, his mind focused on the task at hand as he falls into step with the others.

"The artifact began to react defensively as soon as we interfaced with its system," D'rala answers. "We didn't have time to do anything more than simply effectively interact with its console before it went on the attack. I think there's a significant chance that it'll redouble its efforts when we try again."

OOC: D'rala is the XO of the abyss station! I believe Saghalie is comms

"Then that is what you all need to overcome ... and fast.  The initial Security responses".
He said 'you all' because he had more faith in their abilities, dealing with computer systems.  But, the truth was, if there were Security protocols involved, his own training and experiences might come in handy as well.

Between them, they were all kinds of Security, Science and Computer expertise ... and a driving desire to not die in the near future.

Re: Abyss Station - Ancient Artifact

Setting off down the battle-scarred hallway, the landing parties boldly go where D'rala's team's already gone.  Along the way is evidence of their fighting retreat... dead clones, smashed robots, blacked walls and fallen beams.

Standing on either side of a doorway ahead were a pair of deathbots like you'd encountered before.

As they've traveled, Mcreeg gets a few more staticky transmissions from Nipay.  "Sacajawea damaged... Preston saved... dead.  Didn't expect... trying to raise... can't..."

Re: Abyss Station - Ancient Artifact

Decker stopped short.

"Commander. Every attack on us has been in response to something we did to the station, intentional or not. The attack on Lieutenant Commander Vex's team was quite probably a reaction to an authorized access of the station's systems, surely a security priority. What's been sent at us has been modest and measured and surely just a fraction of what the station has at its disposal." He gestures at the two deathbots.

"I don't think we stand a chance at overcoming those defenses. If we're going to be able to stop this, I think we're going to have to communicate with whatever is in charge and convince it to stop on its own."

OOC: We should have brought a photon grenade launcher.

Mcreeg feels his pulse racing with each received transmission, feeling like he should be doing more, tho not having any idea what he could be doing, just that he's failing somehow, and it's not a feeling he likes at all..

"We're trying to help..to figure out what to do..hang in there"

his response hopefully heard my Lt Nipay, even as he wonders where he heard that strange phrase before and if he's using it right..questioning a lot at the moment, things he normally wouldn't even as he activates the comm to Commander ch'Pertha..

Re: Abyss Station - Ancient Artifact

For the moment, the warbots didn't seem to be moving to attack.  Just guard that door ... and ch'Pertha had no doubt that if he and his team approached any closer, those circumstances would change.

Decker gave good advice.  And Mcreeg was keeping them informed of the situation outside.
The question was:  to go back, or go forward.

If they simply retreated now ... they will not have fixed the macro-problem facing this star system.  Though they will have rescued two Starfleet Officers.
But even getting back to the surface, if the gravity field had collapsed, and the shuttles were under attack, this team could not go any further anyway ... or might be able to offer aid to the shuttles.

If they instead remained, they were still on a countdown: and unless they found a way into that room, or a way to make contact with whatever intelligence ran this place, they were wasting time.

"JavKer," he began giving directions, "scan ... or do whatever ... try to find us any other control panels or facilities out here.
Decker, continue trying to make contact with the ruling intelligence
".

Then, gently, he took one step forward ... and knelt, placing is weapon on the ground.  His eyes never left the guardbots, and he was tensed and ready to react to any movements they made.

With his hands raised, he took another step forward.
