Basharat's House

After sunset, Thymas climbed to the roof of Basharat's 6 story house then climbed down to a 4th floor window to break in through the servants' quarters.  He had a short time to search before Basharat's visitors arrived, and wanted to take every penny he could from his treacherous former master.  Basharat had given his Thieves Guild followers the night off and hired some thugs from the Slayer's Brotherhood to guard his house that night.  They're dumb but they don't ask questions.  Thymas easily slipped past them as he explored the lavishly decorated dining rooms, then made his way up to Basharat's sumptuous apartment and bedroom on the 5th floor.  The chimneys of the central fireplace were a tight fit but he wriggled up to the 6th floor to loot the treasures of Basharat's trophy room while the guests were arriving for the auction in the next room.

Nyx and Valor, disguised as Lysandra and Sergeant Marvin of the city watch (with a sword, not a halberd), arrived at the house with Lieutenant Fleet and a retinue of city watchmen.  Basharat's guards told the watchmen to wait outside, only the General and his lady were permitted to enter.  Lysandra protested, saying she needed someone to carry her bag and cloak and giving them to the sergeant.  The three were allowed to enter, but had to leave their swords with Basharat's thug on the 4th floor.  They were shown to the auction room on the 6th floor where Basharat waited with another visitor, Master Magician Sivilan or the Eastern Empire.  Two of Basharat's hired thugs waited beside his chair.  The room had a large table painted with a map of Lankhmar, a metal stove surrounded by chairs and divans, a bookcase and an antique sword hanging on the wall.  Two shady characters were hidden in a dark corner behind the table, unseen by the humans but clearly visible to Nyx and Valor.  The rubies and Ilthmar tunnel map were on display on small tables beside Basharat's chair.  Sivilan was annoyed that there were only 6 rubies, but Basharat explained that they were all he had at present.  Basharat recognised Valor disguised as Sergeant Marvin but, unsure why Valor was there, hoped Valor was somehow there as his ally.

The party kept in touch with each other throughout the raid on Basharat's house using their whispering rings.

Thymas stole the best lightweight jewellery from the trophy room then discovered a secret passage between the trophy room and auction room.  In the passage were some coin sacks and a rack with a small chest.  The chest turned out to be a mimic and lashed out at Thymus when he touched it.  The bumps and grunts of the battle could be heard faintly in the auction room next door.

Lysandra dropped a book from a bookcase to cover the sounds and surreptitiously began looking for a secret passage behind the bookcase.  The auction concluded more quickly than Basharat would have liked, with the General only interested in the map and Sivilan only interested in the rubies.  Basharat grudgingly accepted their offers; just 800 gold rilks for the map and two diamonds in amber gluditch for the rubies.  Sergeant Marvin carried a letter from General Worlga to his men waiting in the street, and returned with the 800 gold rilks.  When he returned Sivilan's payment was already on the table.  At that moment General Worlga recognised Sergeant Marvin as Cloppie and became suspicious.  That's when Sergeant Marvin made his move, taking the map and 2 diamonds in amber gluditch and heading for the door.  All hell broke loose.

Basharat yelled for the his hired thugs to "get them!", then he moved to the bookcase to open the secret door and escape.  Basharat's two thugs and the shady characters at the back of the room all leapt forward to attack the astonished General and Sergeant Marvin.  Worlga grabbed the antique sword from the wall and drove back at the thugs, wounded but relishing the fight.  Sivilan cast a spell to fill the room with smoke then vanished with the 6 rubies.  Lysandra followed Basharat out through the bookcase, but let him move off ahead through the trophy room screaming for his thugs to "kill them all!"  A moment later, Thymas popped out of his hiding spot in the fireplace and grinned at Lysandra.

Thymas left the house unseen through a window.  Lysandra and Sergeant Marvin headed downstairs leaving Basharat's thugs battling the exuberant General.  On the 5th floor they paused to explore Basharat's collection of exotic animals, setting free a pair of weasels, a pseudodragon and a tiny black pudding.  Emerging suddenly from a secret door on the 3rd floor landing, Basharat made a desperate swipe at Sergeant Marvin with his dagger, but missed and fled across the alley and through an adjacent building.  In the street, Sergeant Marvin ordered the city watchmen into Basharat's house saying "It was a trap!  Upstairs, to the General!"  The pseudodragon flew off into the smoggy Lankhmar night sky.
