Re: Chult: To the Fire Peaks

Ynvaars head snapped around as the sibilant phrase echoed from beyond the curtain of flames. Turning back to the remaining corpse that still hung from the ceiling, Ynvaar severed the rope with his axe and let the corpse fall to the floor, making a mental note to return and observe the proper respects when battle was done.

"Don't worry about any traps Rand, I will lead the way and shout back a warning should they have prepared another surprise for us.

Are we ready to go through then?
"  he asked the others as he reached for his holy symbol and issued a plea to the Foehammer for victory.

[Private to DM Jim:
Cast Bane. (all enemies within 50' get -1 to hit). Ynvaar will step a little closer to the barrier to (hopefully) get them all within range.

Ynvaar rolled 18 Spellcraft to identify spell (assuming the 'sibilant phrase' was magic and the spell in question has no somatic component).

The priest turned to regard his comrade below, a wolfish grin beginning to spread from ear to ear  "That's the spirit friend!"  he enthused as if Pug had just offered to buy everyone a round of ale.

"Tis a lure, I tell you!  Why else wait rather than attack us?  Why else bait us with coins to be taken so easily and provide a spellcaster with no seeming protection?  That fellow is an illusion, I'll wager."  Hemmel seems quite agitated about the current situation.

Considering Hemmels warning , he looks at the snakeman,  Points at his throwing axesone way to be finding out ifn its real, let me toss that thing a pc of metal to be chewing on, ifn it wants to attack, then be sending Pug in with silence on um, if not then maybe it will trigger any traps.

OOC: Since there's some debate, I'll pause a bit longer.  If you do decide to charge in, go ahead and roll for initiatives as well, so that I don't have to hold things up to call for the rolls.

And it looks like a lure to me as well... ;-)

Re: Chult: To the Fire Peaks

Ynvaar nodded as Grom spoke and considered his words. "Hmm.. Yes, that's much better. It may cost us the element of surprise but it should force them to reveal thier plans on our terms and is certainly much safer.

It is agreed then, may the Foehammer guide your aim.
"

And help you to live up to your name master Ironaxe.

Moving over to the edge of curtain he takes a solid look at the snakeman or image, and draws his throwing axe, with a mighty heave he throws it at the conjuring snakeman.

OOC throwing rolled 11 (sofar, i dont think i have hit anything with these throwing axes except the walls)

Re: Chult: To the Fire Peaks

Unfortunately, Grom's luck with his axes held true to form, and though the blade flew through the curtain of 'fire', it missed the spellcaster concentrating within the room, and clattered off the wall behind him.

Re: Chult: To the Fire Peaks

Ynvaar winced as the throwing axe clattered noisily off the wall beside the snakeman. Rolling his eyes slightly, Ynvaar slipped the ruby set dagger he had taken from the lost ziggurat from his belt sheathe and flipped the dagger over in his great hand to grasp the blade.

In sharp contrast to the chill wafts of cold air given off from his axe, the dagger gleamed and crackled as tiny flames licked at the blades edge, a faint smoky trail rising slowly from his hand yet the cleric seemed to feel no pain.

"Yes, the barrier seems to make it difficult to draw a sharp aim, let me try Grom" he noted sportingly and grunted as he heaved the dagger at the 'snakeman' beyond the veil of flames.

The enchanted blade sailed true through the air and struck the abomination cleanly with a blow that would ruin anybodies day before turning end over end and returning back through the flames where the priest deftly grabbed it again.

[Private to DM Jim: Edit: Hit AC 20 for 9 fire damage.]

Ynvaar slipped the enchanted blade back in its sheath again before casting a last look behind to make sure nothing was creeping up to outflank them. Apparently sitisfied, Ynvaar followed the others through the veil of flames.

Re: Chult: To the Fire Peaks

OOC> LOL.

Since all the (damned effective thank you very much good DM) Yuan-Ti tactics so far seem to be geared toward whittling down our resources (ie spells) with illusions, I thought it best to hold off on the Silence until we were sure that what we were fighting was real and not another illusion.

Re: Chult: To the Fire Peaks

OOC: *chuckles* Here's hoping they're not too terribly effective tactics...

As Rand encouraged Grom, and Ynvarr checked behind you, Hemmel dashed through the doorway first and felt his foot catch on a simple tripline that crossed the threshold. OOC: I need a DC15 Reflex save, or you hit the floor on one of the first squares in the door.

21:47, Today: DM Jim, on behalf of Hemmel rolled 14 using 1d20+10. Spot check.

To your left as you burst through the doorway, you saw the snakeman you'd attacked, standing near an altar carved in the shape of a writhing mass of serpents.  Between him and the altar was the same human armed serpent you'd seen in the corridor above.

OOC: Since I haven't seen an attack from anyone else, just feel free to pick you a spot anywhere within half your move inside the door.  Just remember that you risk AoO's with certain types of movement.
