Re: Chult: To the Fire Peaks

Rand runs through the door and catches sight of the two creatures that have been running from them for the last few minutes.  Making sure to go into the room far enough so he leaves enough room everyone else Rand comes to stop near the middle of the room.  He then begins to cast a familiar spell to himself, but deep within his mind something spoke to him and the gestures and words to a new spell came to his minds eye.  He quickly copied the gestures and words and cast this new spell, unsure exactly what it'll do.  With the spell cast 2 identical images of Rand suddenly appear next to him.

Re: Chult: To the Fire Peaks

Jumping past Hemmels stumbling figure, he spots the snakeman and another one of a close looking but with arms like a human.
Growling as a wild animal he close's the distance to the snakeman, trying to stop it from getting any spells off.
Coming in low he swings his axe and feels it nick thru some of the scales to barely cut the flesh there.

Hemmel curses as he somehow fails to spot the tripwire and feels his balance go out of whack.  He manages to pull himself straight with a spine-wrenching jerk and stumbles forward a step (to H1.)  With a glare for the injured snakeman, he casts a spell that produces a ball of flame in his fist and tosses the fire at the already injured snakeman.

[Private to DM Jim:

Move to H1 and cast Produce Flame on the injured snakeman.  Spell will last for 4 minutes (each attack counts as 1 min.)

Re: Chult: To the Fire Peaks

Ynvaar followed the others through the flames and scanned the room briefly with narrowed eyes. Spying the snakemen, and grasping The sword and crimson tightly, Ynvaar poited to Pug with Chillreaver and offered his plea to the Lord of Battles

"Mighty tempos, bless us in the coming battle and hold all around this warrior before you in awe of thy might, let nought be heard save the wailing laments of your enemies left in our wake as we strive once more to do your will."

Re: Chult: To the Fire Peaks

Rand's mirror images formed in nearly perfect synchronization to each side of him.

Ynvaar's spell settled around Pug cloaking everything in a deep silence. OOC: Which covers everything within four squares of Pug.  However, I'm going to take a little liberty with the initiative and let Hemmel get his spell off before he moves in.

Hemmel's ball of flame fluttered silently from his hand and struck the snakeman, who screamed soundlessly, his mouth stretching wider than you would have thought possible.

The injured snakeman watched you carefully as he stepped back behind the altar. OOC: Full round withdraw

The serpentine form reached behind and drew a slim, curved blade off of the altar and stepped forward to meet Grom's advance. The blade lashed down in the silence and leaft a thin trail of blood along the dwarf's arm. OOC: Six points damage.

Pug's thin blade snaked in as the serpent cut down at Grom, and the point skittered across its ribs, tearing a ragged line through its scales.

Seeing his first target slip back out of reach, he turned his axe on the one that he could reach, but its scales were just a bit too tough for his stoke. OOC: Hope that revision in target is ok.  If not, let me know what you'd rather do, and I'll revise.

Anton watched from the door, looking for a way that he could enter the combat.

Three Rand's look to Ynvaar, They seem to have things taken care of, how about you and me pay our sorcerer friend here a visit?    Three heads turn in the direction of the altar.  With a devilsh grin Rand doesn't even wait for Ynvaar to answer before he runs off.  After stopping a a few feet away the three Rand's call up the magical energy to create a jet of flame.

Re: Chult: To the Fire Peaks

Ynvaar looked down as he strode across the ceiling above Rand and shot his friend a wolfish grin "Aye brother, lets do that!"

Grasping his holy symbol once more, Ynvaar called down the Foehammers blessings on the dwarf, who even now was screaming some silent curse at the beast he fought while his wounds knitted together, and then another blessing for himself.

Instantly the priest grew and grew until he hung over twelve feet tall from the ceiling, pointing his axe at the foe before him in obvious challenge as he continued to stride forward with deadly intent.

Turning back around, the huge cleric waved his great arms and glistening axe wildly to try and catch Pugs' eye before pointing with his axe at the caster and making a balled fist with his free hand.

I hope he takes the hint and leaves that one for Hemmel and Grom, that spell will be for naught if he cannot close down the sorcerer...

OOC> Move to H/I 7/8.  Cast Close Wounds on Grom to heal 9 damage (immediate action), Cast Enlarge Person on Ynvaar.
[Private to DM Jim: Not sure if either of them was affected by Bane but if so, it lasts 5 mins.]

Re: Chult: To the Fire Peaks

Rand's flames sprung from all three sets of hands, washing over his 'sorceror friend', causing blackened spots to form on its scales and a scream of pain to burst from its mouth.

Ynvaar's blessing closed Grom's wounds as the Tempuran stormed across the ceiling, growing closer to the ground with each step.

Hemmel's ball of fire whirled from his fingers, and struck the scaled sorceror as it looked around wildly for a way to escape.  The hiss of the flame and the spiral of smoke from its skin burning away looked even more serious than the burns from the Rands.  With an even louder scream it collapsed to the floor, writhed for a moment, and then expired.

OOC: You left out the ranged touch attack for throwing the flame, but I just tossed it through the roller myself to keep things rolling.

20:36, Today: DM Jim, on behalf of Hemmel rolled 26 using 1d20+6. Ranged Touch for Produce Flame.
20:39, Today: DM Jim, on behalf of Hemmel rolled 16 using 1d20+6. Crit check.

Apparently distracted by the sight of his companion collapsing in a flaming heap, the serpentine creature lashed out too late at Grom, and missed the dwarf's dodging form.

OOC: Pug, I'll give you some time to revise your action, since your target just went up in smoke.  If you want to send two at once, I'll just toss this round's in at the start of the next round's summary.

Grom screamed his challenge to his foe, but no words made it through Ynvaar's spell.  His sword carried the message though, ripping one of the large scales from the snake thing's belly.

Ynvaar grumbled his dissappointment at being denied the opportunity to strike down such a foe himself, but quickly took solace in charging down the last of the abominations, his usual thunderous battlecry lost in the eerily silent melee as he rushed to engage the remaining enemy and swept his axe around in a great arc.

Re: Chult: To the Fire Peaks

OOC: Let's see if I can get this out before I have to go to work...

And I'll start out by backing in Pug's action from last round.

Pug's flashing blades wove a deadly net of steel in front of the serpent, but unfortunately it was more flash than deadly this time.

Rand's thin blade only struck his foe as its attention was diverted by one of Pug's showier flourishes, and punctured the meaty flesh of the serpent's arm.
OOC: You needed the flanking bonus.  It's a good thing you added it.

Chillreaver swept down, but merely grazed the serpent's scales, causing no visible harm.

Hemmel's flames likewise strike against the armed serpent, but the licking flames cause no visible injury, not even soot stains on his scales.
OOC: No worries, we all forget things from time to time, like the Spell Resistance I've been forgetting.... Got it this time though.
07:15, Today: DM Jim, on behalf of Hemmel rolled 15 using 1d20+4. Caster Level check for SR.

The serpent seemed to go berserk with all of the new attacks whizzing in its direction, and lashed out viciously at the target nearest to it, which was Grom.  Twice the slashing blade bit through the dwarf's defenses.
<orange>07:21, Today: DM Jim rolled 16 using 1d20+10. Attacking Grom - full attack.
07:21, Today: DM Jim rolled 22 using 1d20+5. Attacking Grom - full attack.
07:23, Today: DM Jim rolled 10 using 2d6+4. Two attack damage.

OOC: Pug, you're still a round behind by my count.  If you'll send me two actions, I'll get each one in its place and get you caught up.

Grom's blade bit deep, and the serpent started to glance around as though seeking an escape.
OOC: You sure about that move?  F4 will put you out of reach, and/but you'll still draw an AoO as you move.

Hemmel sends the flames once more at the serpent.

[Private to DM Jim: Ranged Attack = 12.  Damage = 6.

Since I didn't actually cast a new spell, I should not have to make another caster level check.  Product Flame gives me 4 attacks (the tradeoff being crappy damage), so as long as I continue to use those attacks from the same spell, I get to use my original caster level check.  This has good and bad implications, depending on the original die roll.  Fortunately for me, I rolled well the first time.

In a flurry of blades, Pug slipped in and slew the serpent, with Rand's blade and Chillreaver further mutilating what was already, by that time, a chunk of cooling meat.

A moment later, the serpentine body collapsed to the floor with a heavy Thud.
