Chult: To the Fire Peaks

The jungle quickly closes in on you as everyone leaves town, within a few moments looking back over your shoulders reveals nothing but more trees.  Towering some over 100' high sunlight is all but gone as you ravel deeper and deeper into the deep unknown.  The jungle heat does not lesson as you enter the shade, in fact the humidity seems to raise, if that were possible!  The sounds of jungle life are all around you, the chirping of bugs, the cry of birds over head, and the deeper roars of unknown creatures hunting always for a fresh meal.  Two paths present themselves to you, one leading along the river bank deep into the jungle, and one straight into the jungle, both head south.

Ok, Kuruk which way do we go?  Having no idea which way he is to head Rand calls over his shoulder to Kuruk for some help in which path to take.

Re: Chult: To find a jungle friend

Kuruk stops in the middle of the path, and drops a marble to the ground.  Co-incindentaly it rolls in the direction of the river, confirming what Samier said the other day. Almost forgetting to pick it up, he informs the rest of the group.  "Samier say last group follow river, so we follow river too.  Unless you rather go straight into jungle?"

OOC: Waiting for me?? Sorry.

[Private to Kuruk Jobtawk: OOC: Actually Samier said that the river path was much more dangerous....but your right, the first group did follow the river for a few days, then cut inland.

Actually I was getting worried about you, hadn't seen any posts from you in a few days.  Glad to see your back old timer!

I think it best we follow the steps of the last group as best we can. Rand points to the marble, Don't forget that. and casually waits for someone to head down the path that follows the river.

"I also think following the river is wiser. We should eventually find where they went, and plunging into the jungle headfirst... I'm not sure I really like the idea of that, personally."

Niailee looks about and wipes her brow, still trying to get used to the incredible heat.

Re: Chult: To find a jungle friend

The morning comes and goes as the small band of travellers follows the river deeper into the unknown.  Glancing at the river a sharp eye can depict places where the current doesn't flow in the proper direction, something large making its own current deep in the water.  The day streches on as the sun reaches its zenith high overhead with little to no distrubances other than the bugs.

OOC: I'd like a walking order, I'm assuming Kuruk has the lead, also, I'm going to need survival checks from everyone (ahh, the joys of the jungle).  Heck, while we're at it lets get a spot check to....but don't read anything into that last one.

Re: Chult: To find a jungle friend

Rand follows along the path with the others glancing at whatever is making the currents in the water is pretty big.  As they swim by he watches and makes sure they continue on until he takes his eye off of them.  But, he makes sure that he checks back on the path every once in a while because one never knows when something will come for you out of the jungle.
Checking the time of day by looking to the suns position Rand can't help think what it must be like for those who are wearing metal armor. Man, they've gotta be really hot in those things.

Re: Chult: To find a jungle friend

Kuruk in the lead, pays little attention to the backwards currents in the water, though he does not stray too close to the water's edge.  He walks carefully forward, spear in front, leaving no trail behind himself.  As he walks, he looks about carefully for any potential threats; he doesn't want this expedition to unexpectedly end.

"Phew! Hot enough for ya?" Ynvaar says with a wink as he slaps Rand on the shoulder with a bone jarring thump and an enormous grin before coming to a stop between Kuruk and Nialee.

Leaning back casually against a tree, his freshly oiled armour and axe glinting in the sunlight as it filters through the trees, Ynvaar begins to hum a Tempuran battle dirge to himself contentedly, his obvious zeal for the forthcoming adventure plainly written upon the surprisingly fresh faced warrior as he waits for Kuruk to lead the way to glory.

Walking along for a bit Rand looks to break the monotony of walking in silence, Kuruk, how far did the previous group get before they were not heard from?

Re: Chult: To find a jungle friend

The surface of the water breaks with almost no warning, a huge maw of sharp teeth snapping out to latch onto Ynvaar's torso, his armor saving him from the worst of the blow, but the crush of that maw is a bit more than it can hold off.  The head of a giant crocodile thrashes from side to side before spitting out the foul metal clad man to snap at the rest of the group.

ooc: give me init rolls, you can include them in your posts. I'm gonna work on figureing out how to post a battle grid for us to use, until then I'm assuming that the walking order is (Yeah, I know, no color, hard to read, but hey its my first time!)

Re: Chult: To find a jungle friend

Upon sighting the crocodile, Kuruk whirls and drops on all fours, getting down to croc level.  He attempts to convey a sense of distaste and overwhelming odds through body language and gutteral noises as only a druid knows how, hoping to drive the reptile towards easier prey and away from the expedition.

Meanwhile, Mr. Snake stays hidden just at the edge of the trees, avoiding confrontation with the large water creature.

As the water splashes Rand spins to see the mass of teeth flash by him and grab Ynvaar.  Quickly drawing the rapier from his back Rand brings the sword into Heron Wades in Water, the basic defensive form.  Looking at Kuruk drop to all fours makes Rand look twice.

With a growl and a snap the croc takes a step towards Kuruk, not impressed by what he had to say.

OOC: once we get Niailee's Init we can begin, if I don't get it by tomorrow afternoon I'll make the rolls for her.  So far it looks like its going to be Kuruk, Rand, Ynvaar then the croc.

Re: Chult: To find a jungle friend

With a splash of water and flash of snapping jaws a giant croc emerges from the water and clamps onto Ynvaar biting down onto his armor and crushing his torso before spitting him out due to the foul taste of his metal skin.  With a flash and a spin Kuruk drops to his knees near the beast, growling and starring into the beasts eyes in a failed attempted to convisnce it to return to the river.  But the hungry beast stays, the promise of an easy meal to much for it to pass.

Init order/Damage:
Kuruk
Rand
Ynvaar -7
Croc
Niailee

Let the fighting begin folks.

ooc: you have about 15 to 20 feet of movement before you get to the tree line, sorry, not going to put in all the trees...its a PITA ;)
