Re: postal postage posting

Well, well. It seems the reports of my demise were greatly exaggerated. :P

It also seems like I need to update the map for the current combat, which will have to wait until tomorrow. I think/hope I included everyone in this region in the PM I posted.

Are you sure nobody will level up with those XP? Hmm....

Re: postal postage posting

So, traditionally on sundays, my internet connection mysteriously goes offline around the time i get up in the morning, and then just as mysteriously renews itself at a random time between dinner and midnight. This week, however, it did not, and I have a tiny little icon in my taskbar that tells me one of my cables is disconnected. Trust me, they aren't. :|
Long story short, I've got to take my day off tomorrow and go buy either a new surfboard or new cables, but I'll be back online ASAP. [typing at a friend's house now, who lives in the next town over from me]

Re: postal postage posting

How old/worn are the cables? If the little clips get broken, then they don't sit right and come loose. I've had so much trouble with internet connections just because of that.

Re: postal postage posting

Writing from the laundromat right now! Lol  The cables aren't worn or bent/folded, but I went to the cable company today with my old router/cable modem they provided and the lady behind the counter said, and I quote, "Where did you find this old thing? We haven't used these in years. Let me get you a replacement from the stockroom." :P
So, I'm guessing that my 'retro' surfboard either just got old and shorted out last week, or had some sort of compatibility issues with whatever rolling software updates they routinely send me through the wire. In any case, I hope that when I get home tonight everything is back to normal. If nt, I'll get to the library friday or saturday, time permitting.
And then maybe NEXT week we can try to get back to the 72 hour system of posting. Heh.

I thought that, now that I have a decent paycheck again, I can just throw money at my problems and make them go away. It seems to work for the government, right? :P

Re: postal postage posting

So I got home and set up the new modem and was immediately rewarded with the sight of only one little green light on the box [out of the four that are normally on indicating power, connection, information flow, and activity]. Hmmm. The disk that came with the modem for installing the drivers didn't autorun, and manually opening with explore also failed to bring up the installation .exe program. WTH!
Tech support, when called, asked why the people at the office who gave it to me didn't just set it up for me automatically through their end, and then ping me when I got home. Seriously, I can't answer that. Maybe they were too surprised at the obsolete equipment I was turning in.
Anywho, I got connected wednesday night briefly, and then lost my connection again, just like before. Diagnostics said nothing; ethernet card connection good, cable tv working, power supply working, IP doesn't need repairing, etc but 'a cable connection to the internet has been disconnected', just like the last surfboard. Arrrgh. How can it say connection good, display packets of information being transmitted, but not connect to the internet? Lol Called tech support again and made an appointment to have a service tech come over monday afternoon.
Friday morning when I got up for work it was connected, apparently [and mysteriously] during the night, and I had just enough time to post to one of my games before it went down again, and didn't come up until I got in from a friend's house last night [this morning] at around 4 am.
Now, here I am posting to everything I can get my hands on while the connection holds...but what if it stays up when the service tech shows up tomorrow? Will he just give me a shrug and go away? Will I get yet another new cable modem and cable and *then* the shrug and smile? This is absolutley the most frustrating issue I've dealt with in a very long time, mainly because it makes me look unreliable to all these folks in rpol. :|

At least I know I don't have to do laundry to use their computers at the 'mat.

He is 30-35 feet above the ground, where his symbol is on the map to the west of where the tower used to be. The W is Tarnin, I realized after the map was uploaded that the summoned wolf survived as well, so we'll assume the summoned wolf currently occupies the same 'square' as Cecania.

Re: postal postage posting

Good luck. I always find that networks and internet connections are right bastards to set up and keep working.

If the modem is brand new, then the problem might be with the computer's network card, or the cables, or the socket in the wall, or... :)

Ok, I expect to be off tomorrow and this is long enough to give the last player for what is probably the last round of turn-based combat. I'll have my complete post and updated map up within 24 hours, the low end if I don't get called in, or midday-ish if I do. :)
Now to go see how much XP a CR9 will give you folks. :P

So let me see if I understand...the necromancer is making a slow get-away in the air as some sort of incorporeal thing, and the hippogriff is pushing him along?

Re: postal postage posting

As a totally ooc knowledge response from me, the DR offered by the misty form he has assumed can't be overcome by the [non-magical] attacks of the hippogriff, but that doesn't mean it won't continue its attacks. Yes, he is making what classifies as a slow getaway, but given the terrain and footing [mountainous, slippery, and a small pond over which he can fly] it seems unlikely [not impossible] that the party could mount an effective pursuit of their own right away.

Of course, as this is a story just as much as it is an adventure, it is possible that some more twists and turns lie in wait for the intrepid party members as they recover from the battle, regardless of how they choose to deal with the Scarred One. :)

I was planning to give chase once I slew the earth elemental. With 40 foot move speed, +11 Jump, and Boots Of The Winterlands letting me move freely across slippery ice, I figured Eirik would have a good shot. :D

Re: postal postage posting

I didn't add up all your bonuses and penalties to the dice roll for that last swing, but it looks like your 16 will miss by two. Did you remember to add +2 for flanking [with the wolf]?

If not, then the elemental gets another round of life, which will actually work out just as well for another interesting thing that will come to light.

Re: postal postage posting

Yeah, I included flanking. I thought it wouldn't be enough, but remained hopeful. To preserve the coolness, can we say Eirik hit but didn't break through the natural AC? :)

Another interesting thing? Oh dear.

Re: postal postage posting

Well, shield spell direction cna be changed but not as immediate action :P. But figth not yetoer, depending how long hippogrift can stay. Mage si quite immune vs non-magical stuff but not agaisnt magical blade what Relgar has. only thing is to get into REACH of the misty form and spank the mage. If he turns back normal others can pepper him with ranged stuff.

Also thing to note; So far as I know spellcasters who summon magical beasts can give them commands by telepathy or simple verbal commands (how otherwise make them attack a directed foe). I recall hippogrift COULD understand speech even if he cant talk.

Right on both counts, Relgar. Not as an immediate [anytime] action, but as a free action [only on his initiative], which he did.
And yes about the summoned creatures, or at least the way I play it.

Don't suppose one of your RoA Birthday/Christmas gifts happened to be a potion of flying? :P

Re: postal postage posting

Filling is painless mostly (at least in Finland, they just use sharp metal stick scrape of any junk inside hole and then fill it and use flashy light harden it). The forced tooth pulling is painful if pain needle drug does not kick in (and 90% is case with my mom and dad :P. For me it took 3 spikes and then felt nothing and jaw stiff).
