This is where players respond to DM admin notes.

The concept being if they have ideas/suggestions/recommendations, they are discussed here.

While healthy debate is good, keep in mind, the DM is the final arbitrator.

Okay there is a rule in the Unearthed Arcana if a character whose not human could multi-class in a class and chooses to only take one they get a level cap higher by two over the normal one, due to specialization. Example say Bob the Half-Orc is only a fighter his cap would be 12 not 10 under this rule. Mary the Half-Elf Ranger with a normal cap of 6 could go to 8.

I know its not in the three books but could you consider allowing this it might make options a bit more flexible for Demihumans.

That's a good one. I'll chime in and add you might want to consider the expanded class/race/level matrix in UA. I know we won't include UA classes, but IIRC some of the choices are more flexible to players.

As much as I sympathize with limited player options, for the moment since we are just beginning, I prefer not to introduce house roles. Especially given that new players have a hard enough time wrapping their heads around the "standard" rules.

And, as all experienced DMs know, once you pull your finger out of the dam, a deluge usually follows.

Let's get up and running first, then later on down the line, we'll be in a better position to discuss house rules.

Well that's fine it just makes not multi-classing unappealing in a good number of cases thieves and classes with 9 or more levels viable for a given race. It doesn't hurt to ask.

Actually, thieves are usually unlimited in level for demi-humans. Its the other classes that cap it. In fact that's one reason Zeke is multi with thief.

Re:Campaign Direction.

I like the last couple of options. I don't want to feel rail roaded but I like  my actions have consequences for the good and bad. If we start to gain notoriety for messing up SO&SO's plans well he's going to start sending people after us but on that same note others who are also opposed to SO&SO will aid us.

RPOL allows the later options to be better realized but it's a TON more work on you.

Just before I'm off...there is always railroading initially, it can not be helped. I have NEVER, played or run a game where the DM goes....ok, what do you do next(or a slight nudge), without having spent literal years in creating a world, and even using a "boxed campaign"

Just not possible, unless you are in the "nothing matters campaign".

Know what I mean.

Anyways...really folks outta here.

Take care all.

Oh I know there is always some rail roading in a game. It's simply not possible and to run a campaign. It's a delicate illusion you DM's craft for us players and we go along with it :)

If you have a list of potential adventures it's easy to present them all and let the characters choose their path without railroading. I've done that often. Oldest version I remember was the public notices on a tree at the town center.

But then again, I've always used commercial or fanmade adventures. I just make a list of which ones would work given the party situation, and present them in suitable ways.

That said, I actually don't mind being railroaded to get things started. But if it continues when the party is "established" as a group, it can get annoying.

As to the campaign depth, I'd rather get started than wait for a complete world with all its intricacies. I'd rather start hunting the grave robbers and let you figure out how the lich is involved while we hack at the first level.

Yes Lucan makes a good point. Consider the Old Pool of Radiance game, where you could go get commissions from the City Clerk of various types. Once we settled on one, you could flesh it more fully.

Of course any individual mission could just be one tentacle of whatever ultimate plot you had in mind.

I concur with Zeke. It would also allow missions that would allow those that do not get all the glory, a chance to shine, like Clerics. That is not to say that we might all have our own individual missions (Thieves Guilds wants a copy of a key made to the location we visited. The Wizards would like a spell book, etc)

I think we need a firm hand to pull the party together and get us going on our first adventure together.  Otherwise we'll stall.  After the first adventure we'll have a focus and can move along much more naturally.  Still because of the risk of losing people in this type of gaming format we will continue to need a fairly firm hand from the GM to help us keep from stalling.

And definitely a low level start before the world is fully fleshed out is fine.  We don't know the big details anyway.

I'm cool with anything as far as how we run.  We've all played in all kinds of styles so I'd say base it on pace.

I've seen railroaded ones go awry when people don't post because they don't think it matters and these boards are full of dead games where the PC's stare at each other doing nothing.

I suspect most of us have been around a bit and can happily railroad while adding our own flair, and also make you work like a banshee if you leave us alone and we start building our own adventurers guild. :D

Run it however it's easiest.
