Re: Greenest in Flames

Involuntary gasp escaped Inanah's mouth at the name of Tiamat, if she was to escape she would want to enslave not only dragons but the entire world. But how could she be freed and how could it be stopped?

She said in frustration, "Then I see the urgency in finding out all we can, but I hope we are not too late. It needs to be a significant army if that camp is to be eradicated."

"Master Leosin, do they have other groups raiding other areas? Maybe they are close to their goal already?" Maybe there was more hope if this was the Cult's only operation, swift action might stop them now.

Re: Greenest in Flames

Fleur was pleased. She had not expected to be so readily accepted into the ragtag group, but perhaps they were in more need of someone of her capabilities than she expected. No matter in her case, she got what she wanted, and relished it. Even if it was going up against a cult wishing to bring back a Dragon Goddess.. But she'd rather fight and lose this battle than sit by and do nothing, for that is all it takes for evil to win.

Smiling to the others who greet her, she looks to Isolde as she leaves, and follows with her. She was already geared up, and needed little else  to fetch.

"So, a Cult to Tiamat. Quite the opponent, I reckon?" The question was more conversational than asking, hoping to establish some form of rapports.

The tiefling leaned over towards the new comer " yes you your question they are quite an opponent but I would advise not saying that name too loudly in case it draws unwanted attention"

His demon like features studied her for a moment as if sizing her up then he extended his hand "Talik at your service as you can see the mission we have accepted is not just dangerous but quite possibly suicidal but you are welcome along an extra weapon at our side is mightily welcome "

Fleur makes a bit of a face, but it's evident she does her best not to look rude as she sees Talik's unusual features. Like someone who sees something strange, but has been taught not to comemnt on such things.

"Well met, friend Talik. I think dying in a quest to save innocents from such a terrible fate might be a good death to die.." she shrugs, a small meek smile to add to it.

Isolde gave the newcomer Beaumont a serious stare. "Ten Hells. To die trying," she said firmly, "is not good enough. If you're going to die, make it count."

"Yes, this is a grave matter," Leosin says. "However, I suspect that we still have time to stop the Cult, if we act wisely.

"As far as I know, they don't have any other raiding parties. What you saw at the camp is what they have."

Isolde's gaze struck hard, but not as hard as her words. She almost looked offended, as she return her gaze to the dwarf.

"I.. Don't not mean to insinuate that I would simply lay down and die at the first sign of resistance. Like the Broken God, He Who Endures, my last breath will be spent with my weapon in my hand if need be." she argues, her voices less soft this time.

Isolde grunted. A small smile turned at her mouth. She shook her head, perplexed. "Inanah will tell you -- I speak clumsily sometimes. Like you, Fleur Beaumont, I will stand and fall with weapon in hand, shield on arm." She patted the handle of her weapon, a heavy hammer. "If that serves the cause. Embrace victory, even in death. But to embrace death in defeat ... well, that is not my way."

Re: Greenest in Flames

Aisha allowed herself a slim smile, she had expected to run into problems with others not understanding her way of thinking, now these two were having a misunderstanding already. "Hanimeffendi Isolde, as far as I understand 'succeed or die in trying' is a common human expression for a strong dedication to a cause or task. - I am positive hanimeffendi Fleur does not intend to waste her life on something trivial, just like effendi Hasan thought it worth dying so de innocents could survive."

"And you? - I hope you don't intend to die for anything foolish? - Like sacrificing yourself for innocents or worse: Sacrificing yourself for these fools you are so keen on traveling with. the whisper flitted through her mind, crackling like wet wood in a bonfire. Aisha did not deem this thought worth an answer, ignoring her inner voice was currently her best answer.

"Then I see the urgency of gathering information. If we find enough information and weaknessess maybe a force can be gathered to quickly get rid of them before they spread anywhere else." Inanah aswered to Leosin. "Can you think of anything else that might make it easier for us to infiltrate there?"

She started to gather her gear while waiting for an answer and listened with half ear the discussion of her companions and launched a quick light comment towards Isolde, with a small smile playing on her lips, "Not clumsy, shieldmaiden, but just like you expect obedience."

This seemed to be the point when they were heading out and get things done. It hadn't occurred to her before, but Aisha had waited for this moment, she was looking forward to finding out more about the Cult and hopefully put a stop to this menace. Shouldering her gear, which was nothing more than her backpack and bedroll, she was ready to move out.

"I think we will need to take calculated risks if we are to find out anything, but we will try to come back and tell what we found." Inanah nodded seriously to Leosin. "Good luck on your own travels."

Finally shouldering her pack she walked to join the others and clapped Talik on the shoulder. "The camp should be easier to find this time, but they'll probably have more patrols going. We should be extra careful when getting closer. I wonder if the black cloaks we took would be more useful now?"

Fleur's expression changed to one more akin to shame. She adds, "I understand your intentions, miss Glibhammer. I did not mean to.. Nevermind, you understand what I mean I'm sure."

Small sigh, as she rolls her shoulders. "I am ready to go, but I don't know where we're going. I'm still prepared though."

Re: Greenest in Flames

When the party approaches the camp, they see that it is now mostly abandoned. The stinking huts of the kobolds appear to have been burned, but the huts in the back and both guard towers remain, though they do not seem to be occupied.

Observing the tracks on the ground, it is apparent that the cultists trekked off in small groups in all directions.

The party detects some movement near the back of the camp by the large cave entrance, but they are unable to determine what is going on from the entrance.

Re: Greenest in Flames

During their trip to the camp Inanah had taken her customary place ahead of the group, scouting, using her magic to reach the others for warnings if needed.

When the group stops in a relatively safe place to look on the camp, Inannah speaks, "I wonder what happened? Maybe they are having inner disputes between the humans and kobolds. This works well for us for getting in the camp, but I hope the commotion at the back doesn't mean they are moving their loot and the eggs."

"I think we need to be bold and fast, there might not be another opportunity for approaching unnoticed." It unnerved her that so much seemed to have happened in so short time in the camp, but for now they seemed to be safe.

Re: Greenest in Flames

Aisha kept quiet on their way to the camp, her thoughts revolved around the trouble they could be running into and how to save the prisoners after making sure the eggs of evil dragons were destroyed and the others taken from the hand of the Cult.

When they arrived, the Zakharan looked around and listened to what the elf had to tell them. "If de huts are empty, de prisoners are gone or..." the stranger hesitated "Or maybe dead." she finished. Her guts were cramping at the thought of what the Cult might have done to them. However, forcing them on a march to Fate-knows-where was unlikely, the effort was too high. It would take too many guards to keep them from escaping.

"Dey may be incarcerated in the caves, I hope." she added, clinging to the thought like a shipwrecked sailor held onto a plank from his ship. "Yes, de people will be held in de cave." she repeated, more to herself than for anyone elses benefit.

"Did you find any tracks of wagons or carts? - I believe dey would carry deir loot on a cart, rather dan on a horse or donkey." the sorceress asked, looking at the elf intently...

Talik took his position just behind Inanah to lend a second pair of eyes and to give her backup if required.

At the camp he took in the scene "they have gone....for now. Having no guards on duty might mean they are not coming back soon. Moving off in groups will call less attention that a big army and easier to hide. If one group is spotted it will be mistaken as a raiding party and delt with as such not a large army on the move."

He looked towards the back of the camp"it could just be looters after all we are dealing with a den of thieves and cutthroats but even so they might have information as to what has happened and what is to happen next"

Re: Greenest in Flames

Inanah realised that Aisha had not been there when they had made the report of their findings in the camp, so she didn't have all the information. "We didn't find where the prisoners were kept, the huts seemed to be for the cultists, but we heard that when they were taken to the cave, they didn't return." Her face was grim.

"I didn't see any cart tracks, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the loot is still there. They have after all access to a dragon, maybe it returned to ferry their treasure."

She nodded to Talik, "Perhaps you are right and they are scavengers trying to find something in the destruction."

"So, do we approach stealthily, without trying to disguise or do we try using the cultist robes? I think the huts should provide us cover all the way to the back of the camp, if we move carefully enough. If they indeed are scavengers, then the cult robes might prove more trouble than worth."

Re: Greenest in Flames

Fleur new little of the difference between this moment and when the group had previously been here, so she listens carefully to their counsel, connecting things through context clues.

"We could simply approach the group; if they are scavengers, they may not wish to fight and might have some more information on where the others went - scavengers usually keep an eye on their prey before approaching, right? If not, we can simply get into range to pacify them." As she says the last part, she thumbs her mace a bit, to enhance her point.

"Whatever we do, I agree that we should act in haste. Before the opportunity vanishes."
