Character Generation (general discussion)
Of the suggested mechanics above I would like to stress my interest in a few specifically, the others would be nice but not something I would push for.  What I would push for are:

- Flaws
- Traits
- Honor system
- Reputation and Fame
- Wound Threshold Mechanic

Action and hero points would make good rewards for players for being daring or super creative in overcoming a challenge.

And Mythic Tiers would just create more story line and focus to our characters and the path they walk.

Skalanis 'Furious' Faelyn:
I've decided against Deverish Dancer. Instead I'll go with Barbarian/Rogue. Not sure which rogue archetype yet though...bandit overlaps the Jungle Stalker a fair amount

Do you mean the Stalker archetype whe selects jungle for their terrain?

If so, then Forrest or underdark would be better options for a chosen terrain.

In reply to Myrkyssa (msg # 14):

I think some (or all) of the mentioned mechanics would be interesting to explore and add a richness to the characters and to combat (and I'm in favor of flaws and traits).

Flaws, traits, Reputation and Fame are a 100% yes from me.

I'm not familiar with the Honor System and Wound Threshold, I'm going to do some digging now.

Someone mentioned hirelings and/or cohorts? Lets discuss that some. Are you wanting a small army to accompany you or is it more for a management style game on the side? (if that makes sense)

Just a side note...I love the use of 'The Dungeon Master' as your avatar.  Loved that cartoon growing up!  Wouldn't mind a visit from the little guy in game :)

Character Generation (general discussion)
regarding animal companions, special mounts, familiars, etc in this 'gestalt' game.

I wouldn't suggest allowing them to be gestalt as well, but would you consider allowing them to have the following (in lieu of being gestalted):

  • an additional +1 attribute bonus every 4 HD to be assigned by the player.
  • an additional feat per HD where an additional feat would normally be gained (from HD) to be assigned by the player (with GM approval).
  • an additional 2 skill points per level (8 at first) to be applied to new skills (with GM approval...ie: an animal companion gaining spellcraft as a new skill makes a no sense, but adding tumble or hide or spot, for example very well might) to be assigned by the player.

Myrkyssa:
Looking for permission to implement any or all of the following into the game:
____________________________________________________________________________________________

TRAITS - https://www.d20pfsrd.com/traits/#TOC-Gaining-Traits

Starting play with 2 free Traits with the possibility taking a Drawback to gain a 3rd and the possibility of gaining even more through the Additional Traits Feat.

DRAWBACKS - https://www.d20pfsrd.com/traits/drawbacks
____________________________________________________________________________________________

Unearthed Arcana's Flaw's:

FLAWS - http://www.d20srd.org/srd/vari...s/characterFlaws.htm

Starting with 2 and no method to gain more.
____________________________________________________________________________________________

Pathfinder's Hero Points:

HERO POINTS - https://www.d20pfsrd.com/gamem...er-rules/hero-points

Starting with 1 and gaining 1 per level after game start and rewarded by GM for exceptional
game play.
____________________________________________________________________________________________

Pathfinder's Honor System:

https://www.d20pfsrd.com/gamem...ng/other-rules/honor
____________________________________________________________________________________________

Pathfinders Mythic Hero Mechanic:

https://www.d20pfsrd.com/alter...ythic/mythic-heroes/

Perhaps 1 tier to start, with tiers being earned every level for next 10 levels

or

5 tiers to start, with tiers being earned at levels 12, 14, 16, 18 and 20.
____________________________________________________________________________________________

If Mythic Hero Mechanic is allowed then of course you would be justified in throwing
Mythic Monsters at us:

https://www.d20pfsrd.com/alter...hic/mythic-monsters/
____________________________________________________________________________________________

Pathfinder's Reputation and Fame Mechanic:

https://www.d20pfsrd.com/gamem.../reputation-and-fame
____________________________________________________________________________________________

To add a more realistic feel to combat the Wound Threshold Mechanic would be useful:

https://www.d20pfsrd.com/gamem...holds-optional-rules
____________________________________________________________________________________________

The Action point system from Eberron Unlimited:

Thoughts on the inclusion of the mythic hero mechanics?

Firm no on the Mythic Hero, I don't know enough about it.

Honor System is very intriguing, however seem's tricky to keep up with. I'm undecided on this as of yet but this could be introduced later.

Wound Threshold, a definite yes. Applies to characters and monsters.

2 traits selected at character creation. Each flaw taken grants an additional 2 traits.

Are the 2 additional granted traits in addition to the feat gained for taking the flaw in the first place? As that is what the flaw mechanic was designed to do...take a flaw to gain a feat.

Re: Character Generation (general discussion)
No, 2 Traits instead of a Feat.

Maximum of 2 Drawbacks allowed. Either a combination of 4 additional Traits, 2 Traits & 1 Feat or 2 Feats.

Re: Character Generation (general discussion)
Greetings and salutations! I'm Delia Stormborn, sylph storm mage, clever warrior, and former pirate. Mechanically, I'm considering either Scholar/Incanter for a more classic squishy Int-based blaster caster chassis that can still hold its own in a fight, or a Warder/Arcanist for a much tankier build, a durable martial focused on battlefield control and elemental damage.

I've been following this thread, and I have my own optional system to suggest, RE the DMs preference for relatively few magic items.

https://www.d20pfsrd.com/gamem...c-bonus-progression/

The idea is that the kinds of boring bonuses to stats, saves, AC, and weapons that would come with the usual basic magic items are automatic, and wealth is reduced accordingly while freeing those slots for more interesting things.

I've got two different sheets mostly completed, not really sure which one to go with based on party composition.

Ophilia is a stealthy fey with an affinity for animals, magical beasts, aberrations, and plants.

Not much of a combatant, but she has a wyvern for a monstrous companion which will be of use in battle.

Re: Character Generation (general discussion)
The Scholar//Incanter build has a lot of skills, at-will damaging evocations in a variety of shapes, air-based utility, and large-scale weather control, while being not completely helpless in melee.

The Warder//Arcanist has significantly more defenses, some of the more classic arcane magic, and is a melee tank with a lot of elemental damage attacks.

Re: Character Generation (general discussion)
The concept for this was a group of nature based adventurers...which do you see being more thematic?

My character is a totemist who uses wild empathy regularily

I am running a Ranger // Cleric here.  Tracker, Healer, Chainblade/Shield Dual wielding Crit Specialist with a Large Subterranean Lizard as a Companion.

Re: Character Generation (general discussion)
I was considering nabbing a Lightning Elemental as a companion, but it seems like we've already got plenty of companions kicking around.

The Scholar//Incanter is probably more thematic in its capabilities, but doesn't quite fill the shoes of a party primary arcane caster (which we seem to be lacking), and is vastly squishier than Warder//Arcanist.

Re: Character Generation (general discussion)
To be honest, I never really intended this to be a magic heavy game...so if we are light on magic I would hole the GM would reflect that by not throwing a whole lot of magic against us?

Re: Character Generation (general discussion)
Hey Delia, I was initially going to go Ranger // Druid but didn't want to hog all the nature themed classes.

If either you or Skalanis opt not to snatch up one of the best tier 1 classes for this adventure then I will gladly swap out Cleric for it.

But I would rather we all fit the theme and hope one of you will go that route.

Re: Character Generation (general discussion)
I hadn't intended on going with Druid, if you wanted it. I'm leaning much more elemental in theme, rather than broader "nature", and also looking to utilize the third-party stuff the GM said I could use.

Mind giving us an idea what classes you plan to utilize?

I am using a third party Spell-less Ranger

Re: Character Generation (general discussion)
I'm still unsure between Scholar//Incanter (both third party classes, using the Spheres of Might and Spheres of Power systems, respectively), or Warder//Arcanist (Warder using the third-party Path of War system).

I'm also considering some possible combination of Elementalist, Spherecasting Oracle/Shaman, and/or Armiger (all also using the Spheres systems).
