quote:
2 options for classes.

1) Single class with Prc
2) 2 class gestalt, 5 levels in each.

I'm sure its lack of sleep, but I'm trying to understand what is meant by this...as this was negotiated down to a 10th level gestalt game (from the original request of 15th level).

10th level would look:

class 1/class 2
class 1/class 2
class 1/class 2
class 1/class 2
class 1/class 2
class 1/class 2 or PrC 1
class 1/class 2 or PrC 1
class 1/class 2 or PrC 1
class 1/class 2 or PrC 1
class 1/class 2 or PrC 1

so do you intend option 1 to look something like:

class 1/class 2
class 1/class 2
class 1/class 2
class 1/class 2
class 1/class 2
PrC 1/PrC 2
PrC 1/PrC 2
PrC 1/PrC 2
PrC 1/PrC 2
PrC 1/PrC 2

and option 2 to look something like:

class 1/class 2
class 1/class 2
class 1/class 2
class 1/class 2
class 1/class 2
class 3/class 4
class 3/class 4
class 3/class 4
class 3/class 4
class 3/class 4

or are you suggesting that option 1 looks like:

Class 1
Class 1
Class 1
Class 1
Class 1
PrC 1
PrC 1
PrC 1
PrC 1
PrC 1

and option 2 looks like:

class 1/class 2
class 1/class 2
class 1/class 2
class 1/class 2
class 1/class 2

so that you either play a non-gestalt 10th level character or a gestalt 5th level character?

Sorry, I was rush posting last night as I knew I'd be insanely busy today with work. This is the first chance I've had to log on today and I'm not back home for another 1.5hrs. Think I was just copying & pasting from your original without proof reading.

I've clarified it now.

I've had a few RTJ's however I'm going to be very picky and keep it to 4 players. My pet hate is when a game grinds to a snails pace because of one player, smaller group with an emphasis on regular posting rate should address this.

I'm clearing my evening to go through the source material for your characters, hoping to get everything approved within the next 48hrs and start the following day.

is the 'chart form' character sheet mandatory? I'm spending more time trying to ensure the grids line up than I am entering character sheet information.

Have a look at his HP table...there is an extra | I can't seem to get rid of??

I just pulled it from the Gaming Resources forum, if it's problematic then don't worry about keeping it in the lines. I can tidy them up later

I've received 4 RTJ's and we've only 1 spot available, it's fairly late here so I'll sift through them tomorrow (i finish work early afternoon).

Which experience point progression chart are we using? Slow, Medium, or Fast.

https://www.d20pfsrd.com/class...aracter-advancement/

I would prefer fast as Play by post can take eons to gain levels.  If we were averaging 500xp a week it would still take a year to gain 1 level.

Do you reward XP for good writing, consistent posting rates, etc?

I've no issue with the fast XP chart, I reward good roleplay and solving of puzzles as well

So, I'm not sure what your intent is as far as '3.5 rules' vs 'pathfinder' rules.  My desire was to create a 3.5 character and have it use certain 'pathfinder' aspects (ie: Fast Empathy feat).  I must say my knowledge of Pathfinder is considerably less than that of 3.5.  That having been said, I didn't realize there was such a difference in the 3.5 'Change Attitude' aspect of Diplomacy when compared to Pathfinder.

I had requested this game because I wanted to play a character that uses 'wild empathy' effectively (something that rarely happens in DnD, or at least that has been my experience and I've been playing for over 30 years).

This character was designed off of 3.5's understanding of 'change attitude' and not pathfinders.

If you are intending on using pathfinders definition, my character becomes severely hamstrung in its intent.

Just seeking clarification as to your intent in this regard before putting much more effort into this build.

It's been a long time since I've used 3.5 (8+yrs) so I've had to do a quick search online for it...I really don't feel like digging out the core rulebook from the spare room. Am I missing something because the rule reads exactly the same to me?

quote:
3.5
Wild Empathy (Ex)
A ranger can improve the attitude of an animal. This ability functions just like a Diplomacy check to improve the attitude of a person. The ranger rolls 1d20 and adds his ranger level and his Charisma modifier to determine the wild empathy check result. The typical domestic animal has a starting attitude of indifferent, while wild animals are usually unfriendly.

To use wild empathy, the ranger and the animal must be able to study each other, which means that they must be within 30 feet of one another under normal visibility conditions. Generally, influencing an animal in this way takes 1 minute, but, as with influencing people, it might take more or less time.

The ranger can also use this ability to influence a magical beast with an Intelligence score of 1 or 2, but he takes a -4 penalty on the check.

vs Pathfinder

quote:
A druid can improve the attitude of an animal. This ability functions just like a Diplomacy check made to improve the attitude of a person. The druid rolls 1d20 and adds her druid level and her Charisma modifier to determine the wild empathy check result.

The typical domestic animal has a starting attitude of indifferent, while wild animals are usually unfriendly.

What is the definition you have for 3.5? How does it differ?

Pathfinder:

quote:
Influence Attitude
You can change the initial attitudes of nonplayer characters with a successful check. The DC of this check depends on the creature’s starting attitude toward you, adjusted by its Charisma modifier.

Succeed– If you succeed, the character’s attitude toward you is improved by one step. For every 5 by which your check result exceeds the DC, the character’s attitude toward you increases by one additional step. A creature’s attitude cannot be shifted more than two steps up in this way, although the GM can override this rule in some situations.

Whereas, D&D 3.5 has no restriction as to the number of attitude steps that can be taken with the 'influence attitude' aspect of Diplomacy (and thus, Wild Empathy).

If this limitation was waived, as is permitted by GM discretion, then pathfinder's Wild Empathy/Diplomacy works for my intended character concept. (perhaps simply removing that cap for Wild Empathy and keeping it intact for Diplomacy checks?

UPDATE:

So I've narrowed the RTJ's to 2 different players, either would compliment the party well so I've inquired what their posting rate is like to try and decide.

I've finished populating the forest with various groups, villains etc and have my notes on how they interact with one another. I'm updating an ever growing list of NPC's and messing round with sources for "base building" (using 2E CastleGuide) but I'm not putting too much time into this as it may be something your group may not want to dabble in.

Later today and certainly tomorrow I will start posting threads for various area's in Elventree, you may not be able to see them initially as I tidy up the writing. Effectively I am ready to go within the next 24hrs, 48 tops.

In reply to Ophilia (msg # 11):

I've no problem with wavering it, Indifferent is DC 15 + Modifier so you'll need some hefty investment to make it worthwhile

does the increase in HD of an animal companion change its size if, by its advancement line, its size would be increased because of an increase in HD?

I'm back (ish). I run a bus depot, had a major shortage of staff and some rail replacement work land in my lap last minute, was all hands on deck for a while. 16hr shift, went home for 8.5hrs (legal minimum break) then back in at 4.30 this morning. I'm completely wiped! Roll on Sunday when I finally get a day off.

I don't start until a much more reasonable time tomorrow so will trawl through everything then.

I would say yes to the animal size, I'll have to dig out the rule but I played a campaign with a gnome druid whose badger increased in size as he progressed. I'll try and find the guidelines for it somewhere.

I've reconsidered starting gold; i'll increase it to 35,000gp if we limit the magic items to core rulebooks only. I'm not in favour on other sources that circumvent the core rule costs.

Myrkyssa, I've been doing some reading on the sword-whip. I'll send you a message tomorrow with a fair compromise on it, along with some stats on the cave lizard (if you really want it as an animal companion) although it will be of limited use on the surface.

I'm just waiting on final confirmation as to your ruling on HD increases resulting in a size increase for animal companions (ranger) and monstrous companions (Beast Heart Adept) :)

Sorry everyone, I've been uncommonly busy this last week. I'm currently going through the PM's and want to get everything approved today.

With regards to the 4th member, we are spoiled for choice. I will be accepting them today as well.

It has been 13 days since the GM has logged in with no word on his absense so I am going to put out a GM Request to take the 3 of us on. (Since Skalanis has been absent for the same amount of time I am going to assume that was a GM run character).

Let me know if you guys are still interested in this game with these characters should another GM be found.
