Pilums of smoke were rising from the UN headquarters by the time Ana and Danny made it over.  The first priority of the Legion was to secure the exits to the main building, and keep the police at bay.  That objective has been achieved; the police officers were all hiding behind their patrol cars. They couldn't so much as peep over the hoods without being peppered by bursts of automatic gunfire.  Charging in was likewise out of the question;  the Legion had infinite manpower, and infinite ammo to go with it.  The police did not.

All they could do was surround the building and keep the terrorists inside as they waited for reinforcements, which as the moments started to pass by, they hoped would take the form of an airstrike, or a tactical nuke...

Ana Sofía tries to land on the building, hoping her approach from above is not what the Legion clones are looking at at all, being focused on the police on the ground. (If there are clones up there, that won't be where she lands.)

She thinks to Kate, 'I just landed up top. I'll try to lessen Legion's advantage against the police, unless you need me inside.'

The Legion wasn’t interested in going on a killing spree.  He was a great many things (literally), but a murderer wasn’t one of them.  Taking hostages, on the other hand, didn’t violate any of his principles.  He promised himself he would let them all go, and he would - right after he finished his mission.

Thing is, some of the dignitaries present that day weren’t too keen on being taken prisoner, and a firefight soon broke out between the Legion and the bodyguards of one stubborn Russian President.  As well trained as the security detail has been, they were still no match for the Mutant.  Slowly, they were giving more and more ground before the steady advance of the clones.  Backing down a corridor, then another, locking security doors behind them – everything they could do to stall the horde for a minute longer.

Naturally drawn toward the ruckus originating with the only pocket of resistance left in the building, Kate arrived just in time to flank the advancing Legion.  The clones pressed forward, down the corridor, taking shots here and there for deterrence as they stepped over the fallen bodies of their comrades.   At least half a dozen of them, but every time one of them has fallen, another was created to take its place.   If Kate was going to stop them, she would need to take them all out simultaneously, else she too would be overwhelmed.

“Psst, catwoman – over here” the strikingly beautiful redhead in the tight leather clothing was crouching right around the corner, handgun pointed upwards.  Once she got Kate’s attention, she put a perfectly manicured finger over her pouty lips to signal her to stay silent, less they alert the Legion, then motioned for her to come closer.

Danny arrived behind the Police line, and making sure his Federal Agency badge was on display, he made his way cautiously to where he could ask nearby officers for ‘who’s in charge’ … then on to that person.

“Freedom Force, Officer”, he said, showing his badge, “Regardless of prejudices, you need our help.
Should we act on our own initiative?  Or is there a specific goal you need achieved?”

Kate was fast, she knew she was fast, but she wasn't sure if she was fast enough to get all the clones before they could replicate again, so it was with great relief that she noticed movement and heard the famous Black Widow beckoning to her.  Slipping silently across the hall, looking kind of ridiculous in her fuzzy yellow sweater and green skirt over soft red fur.  Rather than risk notice by speaking aloud she chose to let the woman know she didn't have to speak aloud.  'Hi, you can just think at me and I'll hear it, we don't need to risk being heard.' 

As she got closer she filled in a few details just in case.  'This one can make clones of himself, endlessly if we don't take them all out at once he'll just make more.'  Of course the hero might already know all that but Kate felt it was better to be sure.

'Ooh, we have backup!' her excitement was easy to feel through the mental communication.  'Sourceofcookies, er Ana from Freedom Force just got here.  She's on the roof.'  Shifting the target of her communication to that worthy woman she gave back a little 'Hi sourceofcookies.'

Ana Sofía replies to Kate mentally, 'I'm going to try to figure out what Legion's goal is. Even if we can't stop all of Legion, we might be able to stop him/them from reaching their goal by going after it instead of him/them.'

Ana Sofía decides that things cannot go worse anyway, so she tries to dig into a single one of the Legion clones' minds to find out what their specific goal is here. Maybe they can get a jump on Legion by knowing where he/they are headed.

Captain Finner took position behind a SWAT truck and was busy shouting commands over the police radio when Danny approached him.  He ignored the young man at first, signaling his men to get him out of his hair.  He only put his call on hold when Danny flashed his badge

"Great.  The Feds are here" He didn't have a clue who 'Freedom Force' were, but he did identify the badge.  From past experience, he didn't expect the 'FBI' to be of any help, asides from making his job even more complicated "Look - you want to take over the situation - then go through the proper channels.  Till then, I'm in command over here.  You want to help - take out your gun and see if you can take one of these buggers out.  Must be dozens of them shooting at my men"

The woman nodded.  She didn't know who 'Ana' was, or 'Freedom Force' for that matter.  But she wasn't picky; she needed all the help she could get

"He can also duplicate every time he's punched" she hoped the cat-woman really can ready her mind, and looked for any indication that she could "A bullet through his head is the best way to dispatch him.  You've got a gun?"

Kate looked back meeting the gaze of the older woman steadily.  'No, but I don't need one.' Showing off her hands with a gesture to draw attention to the rather vicious claws that have clearly already been used at some point today.  Whatever else Kate may be, shy of blood isn't one of them, and neither is guilt over dispatching what she thinks of as disposable bodies.

'I'll go on your thought, just think when.' The fuzzy ball of murder continued.

Ana Sofía thinks to Kate, 'He's blocking me out right now, so I don't know what they're up to specifically. But I know their general goal: make a televised speech from the general assembly hall, preferably with some 'captive audience.' So maybe we can shut that down somehow. Meanwhile, I'm on the roof, and here alone. So if people need to escape Legion, upward might work well.'

She also tries the coms, "Can anyone in Freedom Force hear me right now? Danny?"

As more information came in Kate did her best to relay it quickly to the Widow.  'Ana's on the roof, as a possible safe place.' then to Ana, 'is there a helipad?'  before shifting her thoughts back, 'She says that they have some sort of plan to broadcast from the assembly hall with hostages.'

"Let them.  I'm here to protect the President"
The Widow couldn't afford to waste any more time; the Legion was quickly advancing down the corridor, and the bodyguards couldn't do much to slow him down.  She had to act even if she didn't like the odds

"Now!"

Swinging around the corner, the Black Widow fired her pistol at the back of the Legion; once, twice.  The first bullet went right through the back of a Legion's head, leaving a very bloody mess behind it.   The second bullet also found its mark, only it ended up piercing a second Legion's shoulder blade; leaving him morally wounded, but still alive.

Kate was a little surprised by how intense the Black Widow's reaction and determination was.  Just ignoring the bad guy's main goal, but Kate supposed it made sense for someone who wasn't here for everybody just,  before she could finish that thought she felt the impulse to move forming in Natasha's mind and so she did.  Kate didn't make full use of her speed and strength very often, but now was an exception and so she tore down the hallway almost halfway there before the second shot even landed.  Her own attack coming fractions of a second later.

Danny just smiled at the man, “Can’t say I didn’t offer … or try to cooperate”.

Headed back to his car, he got and responded, “Heah, I’m down at the thin blue line.   But walking from the agro that’s wagging here.

I dunno what I can do against Legion; I’m not set up to deal with mobs.   Any suggestions will be accepted”, he said, remounting and getting the engine purring.   “I’d probably make a good distraction about now, if anyone needs it”.

His powers worked on one target at a time, really.  He could try to pick off one Legion at a time, but they’d seen how useful that was.
If he could get eyeballs on one of the other Brothers … that would be different.

Ana Sofía replies over the coms, "I only got here a little before you. I'm on the roof. I'm not sure what to do about Legion. I was thinking maybe trying to stop the broadcast itself rather than trying to stop an army would be a good idea. I'm not strong enough to lift you up here to join me, though. There is at least one mutant on the inside working with us, not sure about more. Maybe we can get Ironman to do something about the wall of Legion out here?"

"I have no way of getting up there," Danny replied to Ana, "or even into the building, without going through this small army", he explained/commented.

He wasn't sure why Price has sent him here to fight a war, while keeping Tank back there, were the wounded were.

"I was considering trying to use the sewer tunnels to bypass them, but I honestly think these guys have done enough research ... and have the numbers ... to have every contingency covered".

Ana says over the coms, "Meanwhile, I can get into the building from up here, but I can't do much if I come face-to-face with gun-toting Legion clones, who are probably all over the inside. I think I should fly to Avengers Tower to get Ironman."

"Down, Kitty!"
The Legion was unfazed by the fact that Kate just tore one of his throats out with her claws.
