[Game Information] Character Creation

Follow the steps below to create your own original character.  All page references are from the Marvel Heroic RPG - civil war core book.

Step I: Character Concept

Establish your Hero's background and personality traits. Your character must be an adult, and a member of Freedom Force; a government sponsored, mutant superhero team.

Step I: Characteristics

Characteristics replace the core book affiliation (see here for reference)
Assign 1d10, 1d8, and 1d6 to the three characteristics : Prowess, Wits, and Willpower

Step II: Primary Power Set

Your Power Set is descriptive; serving as the common theme of your powers.
Example: Professor's X Telepathy, Iceman's Cyrokinesis, Storm's weather control

Step IV: Select Power Traits

Select Power traits in line with your Primary Power Set: one power at 1d10, and another one at 1d8 (for reference: pages OM70-OM87 of the core book).  Pick one SFX (OM90-OM91, or refer to other datafiles for inspiration)

All characters start with the 'Mutant' Limit (OM93)
Optional: You can take another Limit for your Power Set in exchange for an additional SFX.

Example: Cyclops' Visor is a Limit on his power.  Without his visor, Cyclops will blast whatever he's looking at, endangering himself or his teammates

Step VI: Select Specialties
Specialties are advance training and skills, with each specialty covering a broad skill set commonly used by the hero.  Because our characters are rather young and didn't have the time to become an expert in any field, they start the game with only two specialties, both rated at 1d6. Specialties are described in OM98-OM103 of the core book.

Step V: Distinctions

Distinctions are defining backgrounds, significant personality traits, or catchphrases that summarize important facets of the hero’s outlook and approach to life.  Every character starts with exactly three, so write-up the ones which must concisely describes your hero

Example: Spiderman
● Friendly Neighborhood Hero
● Wisecracker'
● With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility'

Step VI: Milestones

Milestones are all about character growth. They're about the things your character confronts, whether he wants to or not, and how his responses to those things shapes him as a human being. The three tiers are all about the escalation of those personal confrontations.  Each hero starts with two milestone tracks, each of which is built from three distinct milestones.   The first milestone is the character's trademark, something we expect to see him/her do in every scene. The second milestone serve to illustrate exactly what this character is about. The third milestone is a decision points, a place in the story where the character has to make a decision which is the culmination of the choices you've made as a player. The outcome will alter the trajectory of his/her story from that point on.

Example: Archangel

1st milestone: When you discuss your link to Apocalypse.
2nd milestone: When you deny the pull Apocalypse has on your will.
Final milestone: When you either accept leadership of Apocalypse’s empire, dedicating yourself to his vision of the world, or declare your link to Apocalypse’s legacy finished and take direct action to sever it forever.

Step VII: Finishing Touches

Select a portrait for your character (it must be a realistic one from the portrait gallery.  No drawing please).  Your Character Detail should only contain your Hero's physical appearance.  His or her personal background is something the rest of the cast would have to discover in-play

[Game Information] Character Creation

The following ten questions helps flesh out your hero's background.  Answering them will allow me to write scenes and stories specifically tailored around your character.  You don't have to answer all, and some can be saved for later.  Once you do though, you will get two experience points as a reward for every question answered.

Super Hero Name:
Come up with a moniker for yourself.

Family:
Who was your family? Do they know you are a Mutant, and if they do, how did it impact your relationship?  What about your siblings? Are they afraid of you? Jealous?

The Mutant Question:
Life as a Mutant is by definition outside the bounds of “normal” life.  What does your character think of ordinary humans, and the growing prejudice toward Mutants?

First Manifestation
Describe the first manifestation of your Mutant powers.  Most Mutants manifest their powers  upon reaching adolescence, and usually, a particularly stressful event triggers the 'awakening' (most likely making an embarrassing situation even worse). How did the event play out? How did your friends/family/bystanders react? Did anyone get hurt during the incident?

Lazy Day:
It’s Sunday morning, and your character has no commitments until tomorrow afternoon. What does she do for the day?

Arrival at the X-Mansion Recruited by Freedom Force
How did your character came to be enrolled at the Xavier Institute for Higher Learning?  Was he sent by his parents?  Ran away from home? Recruited by the Professor himself?
Why did your character join Freedom Force?  Is it the money? a belief in American exceptionalism? Or perhaps, thinking mutants should be regulated by the government?

What would you do if -
Your character is accosted by three ruffians from the Friends of Humanity , itching for a fight. They swear, get in your face, and start getting physical (light pushing, throwing empty beer cans, etc).

Romantic Prospect
Describe your character's ideal companion.  What is she/he like?

Life's Ambition
What is your characters highest ambition? What steps, if any, did he take in pursuing that goal?  What sacrifices would he be willing to make in order to achieve it?

Relationships
Friends, Family, Pets, Treasured Possessions, Places; write down anything your character is sentimental about (no need for more than a few words for each).
