President Davis is tied at the polls, for the first time since Andrew Williams announced his candidacy.  Even if she wins, she is expected to lose both the House and the Senate.

Violent protests erupt in Thailand against the government of Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha.

Renowned Archaeologist René Belloq was assaulted and hospitalized today over his controversial 'Jesus was a Mutant' theory.

And finally, a busy day for America's favorite Superhero: After single-handedly capturing Mutant Terrorist Zoey Fujino, Captain America still took time off his busy schedule to fly to San Francisco to meet with his fans, grab a beer at Austin, and save a kitten from a fire in Atlanta.

The headline running at the bottom of the screen reads:
Breaking news: Freedom Force HQ is under attack.  Agent 'Mistress' confirmed dead.  Dangerous Mutants escape prison.

GNN is too mainstream to show the gruesome footage of Mistress getting punched through the chest, but they do put up a couple of grainy pictures in the background. The gif of Mistress's head being stumped by a giant (with the underlying text of  'Press like and subscribe') that originated on a Mutant hate site ARE going viral all over the web.

"Senator Kelly, you have been criticizing President Davis's Mutant Policies since she took office, and her 'Freedom Force' initiative, specifically.  Do you feel like you've been vindicated, in light of Freedom Force alleged involvement in the disruption of the Friends of Humanity rally last week, and their alleged murder of the five demonstrators?"

"Let me first start by saying that we're still investigating what happened at the rally.  I don't want to condemn Freedom Force until we determined the extent of their involvement, if any.  But I wouldn't change my mind about Freedom Force even if it turns out they had nothing to do with those deaths. Freedom Force is not the answer to our prayers, and will never be."

"Is that because they identify as Mutants first, and have publicly expressed reservations about policing members of their own community?" 

"It has nothing to do with how they identify.  Ultimately, Freedom Force is a reactionary measure.  The best they can do is run around putting out fires.  What we need is prevention.  That's why I proposed the more aptly renamed 'Superhuman Registration Act'.  The act would allow us to monitor dangerous Mutants for signs of radicalization.

We need to keep in mind that 90% of Mutants don't have superhuman powers, and of those that do, the majority would like nothing more than to peacefully coexist with humanity.  We're only dealing with a small subsection of the Mutant population here, but unfortunately, even a handful of Mutants can endanger the lives of millions, or erode the trust in our institutions - as we've seen in the last election.   Registration would allow us to monitor only the Mutants with extraordinary abilities, and leave the rest of them to live their lives in peace. "

"We'll discuss the election in just a moment, but first, another question, Senator. The Mutant Brotherhood, The Marauders, The Nasty Boys, the X-Men, the Mutant Liberation Front, and now Freedom Force.  What do you think is the cause of the rise in Mutant gang activity lately? Are Mutants more inherently violent because they believe themselves to be above the law?"

"Studies have shown that legal sanctions, or the threat thereof, do influence behavior.  Mutants, at least the ones we are dealing with, have little to fear from our police or our justice system, so naturally, they aren't as disincentivized to commit crimes as an everyday man.  But I believe that while it is certainly a factor in Mutant criminality, alienation, rejection by society, and fear, play a much greater role.  Addressing these core societal issues would go a long way in reducing criminality in the Mutant community"

Senator Kelly calls for the dissolution of Freedom Force after former agent John Ohm was apprehended during his attempt to sabotage Trask's factory in Indianapolis.  Senator Kelly thanked Iron-Man for assisting in the capture of the dangerous fugitive.

Following the unprovoked attack on his factory, Dr. Bolivar Trask announced he would cease production of his Mutant sensor, and instead license his invention to any, and all, interested parties.

Captain America and his accomplices still elude law enforcement agencies.  Twenty million dollar reward is offered for information leading to the capture of any of the fugitives.
