Haha! I'm not the only one who's read American Gods!

And I'm psyched to play some Changeling here

I know you said you wanted a fictional American city setting
Have you got any other ideas about what you want to do with this game?

I mainly pitched a fictional American city because I, myself, am not American. I do want to stick with the World of Darkness as its pitched in the core game, grimier than our own, with deeper shadows - not a mirror.

Did you want to start chronologically around your PC's durance, or just refer back to it in memory?

I'm not American either, so that works for me!

I think I'd like to start back in the real world, rather than playing out the durance. Probably back recently, or even fresh out of the Hedge. I like the culture shock of returning to reality.
It might be cool to do the occasional short flashback scene to during the durance. Not play it out fully, but since it's just the two of us I figure I can be a little self indulgent and explore some of that Fairie stuff

Hmmmm. Well lets give each other a week, you mull over a concept and write up a sheet. No need to have it all ironed out, set and fixed (the Durance and the PC's past mortal life with all its attachments); perfectly fine if that unfolds and gets fleshed out as you decide during play the feel of the character.

Sounds good to me

Do you want me to involve you in the creative process and talk tones and themes and stuff, or should I just have a think and then shoot you the details of what I dream up?

And what version of the rules do you want to use for the sheet?
I may have received my shiny new Kickstarter of 2nd edition last week...

Oh gosh, I didn't know there was a 2nd edition, I don't know how I'd get on board that train - is it even up for public access yet?.

Spitball any queries if you need a sounding board, its cool.

Looks like it's up on DriveThru

https://www.drivethrurpg.com/p...-Edition?src=hottest

I'm not trying to push it, though.
I'm perfectly happy with 1st ed, because I actually know that!

If you're a fan of the 2nd ed WoD changes then I'm less familiar but happy to go with that.

Basically, I'm content whichever way you want to go with this :)

I'll give it a read through and come back to you tomorrow on that. I'm seeing reviews that some things are really good (like the more fleshed out roles of the Courts) but also that kith choice is a little lackluster for now till the Book of Kith come out.

Sidenote: Telltale games collapsed. No more seasons of The Wolf Amoung Us, which is a fucking modern tragedy.

Had a skim of 2e, if you're good with it I'm good with it - we'll give it a go. I've named the city Bedrock, with an old history of mining. Its a coastal city as well.

Bedrock, I love it!

I've got a stinking head cold, so I'm not going to be doing much productive thinking right now, sorry.

I shall save the weekend for reading 2e, though, so we're good to go with that! :)

Pasted in a text sheet for you to use. Its not finished (missing things, like touchstones and how they interact with clarity. etc)

Sweet, thank you :)

It may be my fevered brain, but I've been knocking around the idea of a character who is a composite of personalities.

Either a Changeling who was, in Arcadia, created in some way from multiple stolen mortals and who, on escaping, still has aspects of those other people within them.
Or a Changeling who was made and remade to play multiple roles in Arcadia, and who still has shadows of those previous existences echoing inside them.

Or someone who thinks one or the other or both happened to them.
Reality in Arcadia is weird and subjective, after all!

I'm not thinking full disassociative identity disorder.
More a core personality who is influenced by (and maybe even occasionally controlled by) these secondary personalities. Some of which are friendly, some neutral, and some antagonistic to the core personality.

I'd love to use this to explore themes of identity, which Changeling lends itself to well, mental health (real voices or craziness?), which can you say 'beautiful madness'?, and to what makes a full person, again another thing Changeling does well.

Not sure how I'd approach this mechanically yet!
But I thought I'd see how you thought about the idea before I took it any further.

Oh that could be cool. May I draw your attention to genetic chimerism if you're not already aware of it, for inspiration?

Much more common in animals that are born in litters a chimera is an animal or person that was made when two fertilized eggs fused together very early.

In humans I believe its the way you get dramatic hetrochromia, or very differant coloured eyes.

(One) way to, mechanically, reflect a dual or multi-composite changeling is maybe to create a custom kith.

I had a big fever last year, hated it. You really don't feel like yourself. I think I've only had 3 or 4 in my life.

That cat picture is awesome!
I want that kitty

I shall also continue working on this idea.
I really like the whole chimerism angle...

If you're still set on this once the fever delirium passes fully may I humbly suggest:

Rather than outright roleplaying with yourself maybe I could 'take control' of the protagonist during occasional fade to blacks. When s/he is back holding the reigns you take back control and it (can) turn into a mystery the protagonist, and you, figures out what their alter/s have done, then how to cope, and even later doing more from there.

I do want some aspect of roleplaying with myself, as you put it, but I also like the idea of there being a personality (or personalities) who can fully take control without the group I'm playing being aware of what they're doing.
An internal battle that's ripe with plot hooks and potential mysteries :)

Yeah I'm sold on that idea. Steer what we're doing back towards a game that involves problem solving and not just co operative writing.

Ugh, hot temperatures where I am. Nothing compared to what our neighbour Australia is getting but too much for me. Bedrock City's court is growing. Should be fun.

I hate being too hot, so you've got my sympathy!
The weather here is oddly mild for winter.
And I'm finally feeling better! Huzzah!

I'm going out today (beer festival) so expect a more substantial update post from me either tomorrow or Tuesday, depending on how I feel after all the fancy beer :)
