Re: OOC

The stats are mostly done! I just need to decide on the mystic side of oracle: spells, special ability etc.

Then, the equipment, some more details and we should be ready to go!

Re: OOC

Right... so, I'm reading on the spells now and I need a bit clarification:

Some spells list the target as "creature touched". Does it include the caster, or is the caster unable to use such a spell on herself?

Re: OOC

"creature touched" includes the caster if she is physically able to touch herself with a hand

Re: OOC

Thanks!

Alright, the sheet's done - aside from the appearance details and the equipment. Have you thought how how we should handle the money issue? I can simply go with the Level 1 wealth option for simplicity's sake...

Re: OOC

I think the best would be if you just didn't count money, just list what you think she'd probably have just after leaving the company.

If you find that too undefined, you can use level 2 standard money to show a little progress compared to a full fresh noob.

Re: OOC

Alright, thanks for the ruling :)

Question: oracles are divine spellcasters - so, if I understand the rules correctly, armour has no effect on their spellcasting ability?

Re: OOC

Thanks :) Also, if I understand correctly, armour penalty has no effect on combat stats, just some skill checks?

Three questions more:

1. When using a one-handed weapon with two hands, I'm supposed to be adding Str bonus x 1.5. Do I round it up or down?

2. Okay, this might be a bit specific: oracle's Automatic Writing ability. The rules in the APG book say it equals the augury spell with 90% effectiveness... what about this spell's material components, though. Normal augury requires incense (25 gp) as materials and bones (25 gp) as focus. But Automatic Writing involves writing in trance, so... is the focus component disregarded? How about the material component?

I'd be tempted to say that both of the components shouldn't be necessary, but... the ability's write-up for later levels explicitly mention that, when Automatic Writing works as the commune spell, it doesn't need the materials. The same isn't mentioned for the augury version, so... hm. What would you say?

3. Regarding shields - when using a light shield, can a caster use spells with the somatic component? It's clear to me that this won't be possible with heavy shields, but light shields allow for some manual freedom?

Sorry for asking all these questions - as you know, I'm new to this game...

Re: OOC

1. Unless otherwise noted, whenever you must round a number, always round down.

2. Just as you said. However, incense makes sense for me to get into a trance, but bones feel stupid.

3. The question popped up on Paizo forums, and the official answer is "Nope. That's what bucklers are for."

Re: OOC

Anyway, no need to feel or say sorry. That's the point of this game, and you were explicit about it.

Re: OOC

And I accidentally skipped the first one: if the character is not proficient with the armor, it also applies to attack roll, otherwise only to Dex and Str based skill checks.

Re: OOC

Thanks for the answers :)

My solution for the Automatic Writing issue: let's keep the incense (materials) and drop the bones (focus). I'd say that the paper and ink are a focus in their own right...

Anyway - I'm done :) I think I don't have anything else to decide. I'm ready to play!

Wow, where did you get this nice map?

Anyway, I prefer 3rd person, past tense.

Re: OOC

I don't remember where I got the map from. This feels embarrassing. :P

EDIT: I found it in the Varisia sourcebook. Too obvious.

Can you see the game thread?

Re: OOC

Ah, the Varisia sourcebook. I have it on my Paizo account, but I haven't downloaded it yet, so I didn't recognize the map.

I can see the "And what now?" thread. This is our story thread, right?

Re: OOC

I wasn't hurtful, by the way, it's a general attitude from me. In a game with 7-8 people, sooner or later someone's gonna start using neon pink or light orange, and my eyes start to bleed trying to read that. :)
