Turn 9 - Seg 4

Tiberio turns his attention to those that had been thrown off the ledge above.
A bludgeon is useless against a lizard, a spear would be much improved.

Re:  Turn 9 - Seg 3&4 Results

Segment 3
Chang Jun - As the head of the a'ghama comes nearly to eye-level Chang pries the spear from the wall next to him.  The point releases easily as the stone of the wall had not allowed the head to penetrate far.  Weakened from weeks of undernourishment and exposure it takes both hands to hold the weapon properly.  But wield it he does, with a quick fake he rakes the point across the chest of the Pelishtim mercenary where a slight bead of blood begin to trickle.
Updated References thread, Medium Spear is 1½d6 DMG, 12 STR Min, +2m Reach.  Everyone is at -2 STR currently but using 2 Hands on a 1-Handed weapon reduces a weapons STR Minimum by 3.  Should anyone need to use a weapon without meeting the STR Min you'll incur a -1 OCV & -1 DCV for every 5 points under the STR Min.

Rolled the half die for Chang and got a 3, mercenary takes BODY through his leathers

Segment 4
Sarajen - Elated at his maneuver, the elder thief climbs hand over hand up his whip towards the large rock hauling basket above.
Full move, climb 4m.  Your Swinging would help with horizontal movements but not a strictly vertical movement....unless you can come up with a reasonable explanation

Syssiah - Avoiding the skirmish between Tiberio and the mercenary, Syssiah moves to kneel beside the decapitated body tossed aside by the a'ghama.  The handle of the spearman's knife beckons.
Syssiah has a knife, added to weapons list in References thread: ½d6 dmg and can be thrown

Niamh - Perhaps it is the nearness of the massive reptile, its dead, yellow eyes looking upon her as nothing but meat, which spur the pictish woman to ignore her fatigue and drive her to rip the spear from the fresh and better fed mercenary.  It takes both her hands to steady the weapon but it is hers!  Woe to any who try to take it from her...
Rolled STR vs STR, Naimh won by 1 BODY.  See Chang Jun's entry above for info on Spear.

Ludvik - As the battle clusters around the Ear, Ludvik sets his grim eyes upon the lone archer straight ahead.  Pushing the shrieking slave aside, the Hyperborean charges across the Scree Field, ignoring the burning pain of the sharp detritus.  There directly below the mercenary he prepares to climb.
full move, 1 BODY damage

Tiberio - The wooden cudgel catches only empty air as the experienced soldier avoids it easily.  The way he holds his knife, Tiberio knows the spearman is no stranger to his smaller blade.
miss

Marduke - The heavy iron head of the work pick has been a burden to nearly all in the Red Pit...but to Marduke it is only a toy.  Though he raises his spear shaft in an attempt to block the wicked point the force of the block causes his arms to buckle and does nothing to prevent his demise.  Torn asunder the man collapses as the red dirt begins to absorb his life blood.
just....yeah.  toast

Amalric - Glancing over his shoulder, the Numerian pauses at the sight of the monstrous a'ghama drawing nigh upon those battling at the Ear.  But turning again he sees Ludvik reach the space below the archer and prepare to ascend.  Gritting his teeth, determined to continue to give his companion's relief from the arrows, he hurls another stone at his foe to hold his attention.  This time his aim is true as the limestone bites into the mercenary's leg between the gap of his skirt and boots.
finally, archer takes BODY

A'ghama - As Niamh pulls away from the spearman with her prize the great beast places its clawed foot upon the ledge of the Ear a hand's-breadth from the empty-handed mercenary.  It's rumbling hiss causes him to leap, intent on throwing himself from the ledge...too late.  The a'ghama's gaping mouth closes over the head and upper chest of the terrified man.  The beast begins to shake its prey as blood begins to fly from the struggle for only a moment before the body separates and lands unceremoniously upon the floor of the Scree Field.
Bloody and violent as the great lizard is all are unaffected by its Presence attack.  Clearly you hardened warriors expected the beast to be fierce.  As for Syssiah, the Gods alone know what she has witnessed in accursed Zamora.

Niamh could feel her weakness and fatigue just in holding the spear she had managed to wrest from the mercenary. Still, it felt like an extension of herself as she held it in both hands.

However grateful she might have been that the beast had its attention initially taken by the mercenary she had disarmed, the situation was now quite a bit different. With she and Chang Jun on the ledge with it and its attention now clearly shifted to them.

She struck out at the creature, hoping to take advantage of the fact that it appeared to be focused on her companion.

Re:  Turn 9 - Seg 6 - Results

Chang Jun - With the giant beast before him the Khitai warrior does not hesitate; plunging his spear into the armored hide of the a'ghama's side.  The creature releases a frightening hiss as the point jabs between its scales.
A'ghama takes STUN

Archers - The bowman aside the rock hauler grins as he sees Abdibaal's pet close on Chang.  He had suffered a stab wound for his failure to clip the Khitai, seeing him torn to shreds would be a small bit of payback he reasoned.  Instead he chose a different target, the red-haired savage that had just felled his companion.  This time his shaft flies true, striking the Vanir in his shoulder.  The remaining bowman continues the cat-and-mouse with Amalric but the Nemedian uses his cover well; the broadhead impacting the limestone just before his arm.
Marduke hit for 7 BODY 21 STUN before defenses

Spearmen - Only a single mercenary remains in the Pitt, his sights set on Tiberio beneath the outcropping of the Ear.  The horsemaster sees the strike and dives aside yet the wall of the Pitt limits his movement, the spear tip finds his thigh before he is safely away.  Above the Captian calls out [Language unknown: Buthasest!  Intencany!].  The Pelishtim spearmen step forward and cast their shafts upon the rebels clustered below.  Chang Jun barely avoids being impaled as he dances upon the outcropping of the ledge, 3 shafts impacting around him.  Another lands near Tiberio, deflected by the overhang, another next to Syssiah.
even with the Dodge Tiberio is hit for 7 BODY 14 STUN, Chang Jun's defenses stop the damage from another

Slaves - More slaves clamber up the side of the Slave Area, closing upon the Scree Field.  Another climbs the ladder but hesitates at the sight of the a'ghama with her fellows, too afraid to continue.

Re:  Turn 9 - Seg 8 & 9 - Results

Segment 8
Sarajen - Sarajen is gratified when his hand closes not over the thin whip but the solid cable of the rock hauling basket and winch.  Now the canvas container will no longer block the view of his ascent...but he does not tarry.  The thick, twisted cable proves ample hand-holds and allows him to better utilize his feet in his climb.  He has come even with the upper lip of the Pit.  Had any noticed the figure yet?  Will a cry of alarm cause nocked arrows or hefted spears to aim at a new target?  Only time would tell.
now 8.5 meters up, the basket no longer blocks view of you....though is any of the guards looking in your direction?

Syssiah - Perhaps the feel of the steel in her hand emboldens her.  Perhaps the wicked city of Zamora simply instills in its offspring the instincts to survive.  Regardless the princess does not hesitate once the blade is hers, moving deftly forward and slicing a red-ribbon of pain along the muscles of the spearman threatening Tiberio.
spearman takes BODY & STUN, no armor on his arm

Niamh - Niamh moves to the opening of the cave men call the Eunich's Ear just as the a'ghama clears the ledge of spearman and focuses its dead gaze upon Chang.  Poised to strike she does not anticipate the resistance the beast's armored scales provide as her iron speartip is turned aside.
miss

Ludvik - Taking hold of the pick-marked and weathered cliff-face, Ludvik climbs slowly...quietly up towards the archer focused on the far rock-pile and the Nemedian entrenched there.  Several chips break from the brittle stone and rattle downward.
full move, climb, not so stealthy

Tiberio - Tiberio picks himself up from his dive; crimson trails from the gash in his thigh.  The sight of Syssiah striking his opponent from behind is small retribution for his wound.
action aborted for dodge, DCV +3 until segment 12

Marduke - Some cold shudder grips the Pelishtim archer, causing his eyes to rise up from overseeing the nocking of his next arrow.  His barely has time to wonder at the limestone missile and none to avoid it.  A spray of red arcs away as his body topples backward; his bow and arrows falling away.
Impairing wound to the head, dead.  Bow lands beside his corpse

Amalric - Amalric continues to toss stones with fine accuracy yet the archer's leathers protect him from the impact.
hit, no dmg

A'ghama - Enraged by the prods of the Khitai warrior, the giant lizard snaps its mighty jaws in anger at its tormentor.  Chang nearly looses a hand but manages to pull back in time.
hit to hand but does not overcome resistant defenses, no damage

Segment 9
Chang Jun - His heels feel the edge of the ledge; his only option to leap to the Scree Field below or attack the monstrous a'ghama.  Chang does not hesitate.  As the beast draws back for another strike he lungs forward and against feels the shudder as the a'ghama reacts in pain.
A'ghama takes STUN

With simple tools and stones, possibly ones they themselves hew from the accursed Red Pit, the rebels have fought their way to the edge. But Abdibaal's mercenaries and his savage a'ghama would deny them their reward.  To stop, to rest now, means never to rise.

Above lies freedom.  Claim it or die!

Everyone, declare your actions

Sarajen, note that you passed the lip of the rock hauling basket at 5m.  To reach the boom of the giant winch is 14m up; you have 5m more to climb to reach it.  If you choose to use your Swinging from your current position you'll need to make a Climbing roll just to see if anything goes slightly awry

The tail of the a'ghama is as long as it's body, hanging down from the ledge of the Ear almost to the floor of the Screen Field.  There are wicked, bony spikes at it's tip.
The chain attached to it's collar does not reach as far being only 2m in length.

Sarajen sees the fight around him. It seems to be going in their favor. The scaly beast is rather terrifying, but the way in which it is being pummeled and speared into what may be this evening's dinner is encouraging. Sarajen smiles at the thought of roast lizzard legs. His mouth begins to water. Even more motivation to climb faster.

With a growl, Syssiah jumps on the back of the fighting guard (D12), in order to both unbalance and slow him, and with her free hand, she stabs him repeatedly, the rage from the last horrific weeks bee released.

Re:  Turn 9 - Seg 12 - Results

Sarajen - The old thief is overcome by thoughts of food...mmmm, roast lizard...crap...he misses his hand-hold!  Managing to somersault on the cable,  somehow Sarajen regain his position with only an increased heartbeat to indicate the slip-up had ever happened.
bad, bad climbing rolls yet gravity did not get involved too much.  Sarajen maintains his current progress but does not advance

Syssiah - with a cry of abandon, Syssiah attempts to leap upon the spearman's back but the mercenary is wary of the Zamoran's dagger and manages to turn and thwart her in mid-leap.
OCV 5 - 2 for MultiAttack - 1 for Grab = 2, so a roll of 11 hits DCV 2....miss...which means following attacks in multi-attack also miss.

Chang Jun - The Khitai attempts to use his standard martial arts techniques for hand-to-hand with the spear he now wields...but the results are disappointing...
Your power skill is specifically for Kung Fu, not spears so you won't be able to use it with this weapon

Niahm - The Pictish woman thrilled to feel the familiar heft of the spear in her hand.  She spun and jabbed at the creature before her..yet...the blow is turned aside.
miss

Ludvik - Ludvik, having espied his route up to his opponent, begins his ascent.
Hastily the Hyperborean climbs the wall of the Pit; under the nose of the mercenary archer no less.
full move, climb

Tiberio - The horsemaster feels the blood seeping from his wound even as he reaches for the wood of the spear shaft embedded in the soil nearby.  Pivoting he arcs the weapon up unexpectedly, the mercenary is completely unprepared.  The blade of the spear separates wrist from hand...the spearman can no longer claim such title as the weapon and his appendage fall to the red dirt of the Pit.  Try as he might, there is no stopping the flow of his life-blood from the stump that remains...
no armor, crit, uncontrolled bleeding...he will be dead in moments, the fight has left him

Marduke - Though the ledge where Chang, Niamh and the a'ghama struggle in battle lies well above the Vanir's head, the length of the creature's tail is such that it swings menacingly nearly to the ground.  Grabbing hold to steady it Marduke buries his pick into the thick hide and is gratified to see it poke from the other side.  The creature releases a fearsome hiss.
The ledge is 5m up, the tail hangs down 4 meters, pretty much the only thing you could hit on the ground with a hand-weapon like the pick.  Treat tail like arm, 1/2 BODY 1/2 STUN, a'ghama will take BODY and STUN from the attack

Amalric - The Nemedian's next throw skips off the archer's leather boot and shin guard to no effect.
hit, no damage

Archer - Shaking his head the bowman takes aim again at Amalric and lets fly but the Nemedian uses his buncker of stones well to shield his body
miss

A'ghama - The meals before it had only annoyed the a'ghama but something below had hurt it.  That challenge would be met.  With a grinding hiss the creature exits the ledge, down to the floor of the Scree Field to face this red-haired threat.  Marduke nearly has his weapon yanked from his hand as the scaled tail whips away.  It comes at the Vanir like a rhino, mouth agape.  Even with his strength Marduke is unable to turn the beast aside as it envelopes his shoulder with crushing force and tries to bear him to the ground to maul and shake.
hit for 8 BODY 24 STUN before defenses, looks like you'll take 2 BODY 10 STUN, it didn't actually Grab you so you're not restrained

Spearmen - The mercenaries step back from the ledge and return with more spears, planting them in the dirt for each reach.  They then look for their next targets.
move to retrieve more spears and return to edge

Slaves - As the a'ghama descends to the Scree Field those wretches who had reach this level wail and attempt to flee back down the ladder.  But their brethren ascending block their path and for the moment that way is stalled.  Those climbing the walls are undaunted
