Segment 8 - Banter

Working his way through the throng, Sarajen takes ahold of several lengths of chains with manacles. They will serve just fine as a weapon, something he can swing. He was't a master with flexible weapons, but a good solid blow of a chain like that should leave a heavy bruise even on the toughest of opponents.

Chains in hand, he looked towards the stairs first, then to Ludvik. The big fella was busy freeing slaves. He was stronger anyway, so he was better suited to break those pins. Sarajen decided that he should contribute to the escape.

He picked the stairs, heading towards them. Ludvik was safe as it was.

Segment 8 - Banter

Marduke confronts a slave with a pick and convinces him to hand over the pick. In return the big brute tries to break the slaves chains...by hand.

STR 28 does 4 BODY.

Convinces him?  Not without a PRE attack.  Other option would be to attack with a Disarm maneuver or just plain knock him out

You know enough from life in the Pit that slaves struggle against one another all the time.  It is doubtful others would leap to your target's aid.

Even with your STR you would not break the heavy manacles else you could have escaped long ago. Maybe if you took extra time + a Haymaker but probably not in a single go.

Please update with your choice of methods to relieve the slave of his pick and provide rolls to resolve

Segment 8 - Banter

As much as she had looked forward to something like this, it had been unexpected and it took her a moment to engage. Something she would chastise herself for later. "Rise! Rise against those that would keep you slaves!," she cried, as she ran toward the nearest ladder.

She knew that true freedom would lie in being able to actually getting out of the pit and taking down the guards at the top. She continued to yell those words as she did, using whatever languages she knew.

As posted above, Mob. Is. Riled.  Further PRE attacks will do little.  Likewise general PRE attacks will be extremely difficult against slave drivers as a whole since they know they are fighting to the death (though you might surprise one if you're in their face; depends on what you do exactly)

Please clarify which ladder you move to, bottleneck appears imminent...

OOC: She would start to head to the nearest and then quickly shift if it looked too crowded...

Segment 8 - Results

Results by Dex-order

Sarajen - Hands the hammer and awl to Ludvik and pushes his way to the fallen slaver the Hyperborean and Nemedian had just crushed.  The basket of discarded manacles lay where to doomed slaver had dropped them, blood spattered after the savaging from the slaves' assault.
Sarajen moves 4m and retrieves a heavy manacle.

Damage Stunx STR Min Mass Fantasy Hero
Manacle 1/2d6 10 20kg Leg Manacles
- improvised weapon, can be lifted with Casual STR of 3+, somewhat balanced -1 OCV unless have WF: Improvised Weapons
And yes that is killing damage

Syssiah - The Zamoran princess reaches the tops of the ladder, slave drivers within arm's reach.  A look of surprise passes across the brutes' countenance at Syssiah's sudden arrival but in their arrogance they almost immediately relax at the sight of a mere woman rather than one of those responsible for their comrade's demise.
Had just enough movement to reach the top of the ladder.  Arrogant jerks believe you no threat....yet

Niamh - The wild-woman calls out encouragement to her fellow slaves and they answers with shouts for blood.  Her light steps carry her to the ladder Syssiah has just ascended and she follows as quickly as her limbs allow.
On right ladder, 4m up, below Syssiah's token

Ludvik - The Hyperborean begins the arduous task of freeing more of the Pit's captives; pounding at the pins to release the chain which attaches to one ankle.  The pin is halfway out; the Kush savage the manacles are attached to calls encouragements in his native tongue.  Though you do not speak his language his meaning is violently clear.
One more hit perhaps and another slave will be able to move more easily.

Nazarus - does something largely unseen by characters amid the chaos

Tibero - The son of Aquilonia hits the nearest ladder almost directly upon the heels of Niamh.  He ascends as far as he can until the Pict blocks his progress.
On right ladder, 2m up, below Niamh and Syssiah's tokens

Marduke - Growling threats of harm upon the man before him (a Stygian if the hawk-nose and complexion are any indication) prove moot.  Whether the wretch remembers any prior feats of strength by Marduke is unclear, perhaps the blood-lust has robbed him of any memory but his hatred of his captors.  A fierce light burns in his eyes as he pushes back against the Vanir's demand for his tool.
Missed Persuasion roll; the idiot didn't handover his pick.  What will you do about it on your next Phase?

Amalric - Shoving those massing upon Ludvik aside Amalric strives to reach either of the ladders.

Segment 9 & 12

With the manacles in hand, Sarajen runs towards the wall weaving through the slaves to help with the fight on top. As he gets to the rock face, he hangs the manacles around his neck in order to free his hands. Looking for perches and good handholds, he begins the ascent to the upper level.

OOC: Sarajen will move to hex 0012 and begin the climb (if there is enough movement). He will take advantage of the fact that the walls in that corner are closer than 90 degrees together, making a climb much easier by providing something to perch his entire body onto.

20:48, Today: Sarajen rolled 8 using 3d6 with rolls of 5,1,2.  Climbing Roll 13-.

Will take all movement to reach target hex due to 3 hexes of slaves you must pass through.

As stated previously rate of climbing is 2m per Phase, -1 DCV while climbing.

You may make separate Climbing skill check to increase rate by an additional 2m.

An additional check can eliminate the DCV penalty.

Due to advantageous position you selected you get an additional +1 (+2 total) for all climbing checks due to numerous hand-holds.

Think you mean hex DD12.  Let me know if I'm mistaken

Chang Jun darts up the ladder further, hoping to make it to solid ground before the guards could form a plan or retaliate.

OOC:

09:38, Today: Chang Jun rolled 8 using 3d6 with rolls of 2,3,3.  Climbing Roll 12- to increase movement.

GM Question: A Full Move of climbing brings you to the top of the ladder on Segment 9 and on to the Feeding Area with Syssiah.

What will you do on Segment 12?

Chang would probably move forward to say, Hex Z14, then use a Martial Punch on the guy in AA14 I think. Hopefully clearing some room for others to move up.

Re: Segment 9 & 12 - Results

Sarajen - Hustling with the weighty manacle, beard swinging as he ran, Sarajen reaches the corner to the left of the ladders.  Laying the manacle over his shoulder he grabs hold of the cliff face and begins his ascent.
With 16m Running you reach the corner and manage to ascend 1m.

Syssiah - Woah to the fool who turns his back upon the daughter of Zamora.  As Chang Jun leaped to the Feeding Area, drawing the slavers' gaze, Syssiah moved quickly behind the dog and put delicate shoulder to small of his back.  Standing on the precipice, surprised and off-balance, he manages to catch hold of the ledge as he slides over.  It is a momentary respite that likely saves him from the worst of the impact once he fails to find a solid handhold and drops down.
1DC / 2m fallen = 5DC
20:16, Today: Crom rolled 11 using 5d6 with rolls of 1,1,2,3,4.  Falling Dmg.
20:16, Today: Crom rolled 15 using 3d6 with rolls of 6,6,3.  Location re-roll.
- Legs
- Prone 1/2 DCV

Chang Jun - As his intended target topples over the ledge the Eastern warrior focused his violent intent upon the closest slave driver to Syssiah's back.
Rolls?

Niamh - The Pictish wild-woman scurried up the ladder as a wildcat might a pine in search of prey.  The slave standing between her and the nearest slave driver dropped to her knees, cowering in fear that she might be the intended target rather than the brute holding the truncheon behind her.
4m up to start, 15m Running = 7m climbing, you reach the top of the ladder and have enough movement to move 1 hex forward to stand before slave driver 3.

Ludvik - The unruly mob continues its cries and jostling, fouling Ludivk's 2nd strike upon the pin.  Impatient howl's, fear, anger -- all of these mix in the ears of the experienced Hyperborean captain.  This is no group of well organized military men; it is violent mob of innocents, cutthroats and criminal bound together only by momentum and directed at a common goal.  But it is tenuous organization at best.  The slave from distant Kush snarles in impatience that his shackles remain, stamping his shovel against the red dirt menacingly.
Natives grow restless and are pressing in closer; now costs 4m Running to pass through any hex with slaves due to how tightly they are packing in

Tiberio - The horse trader puts hand over hand, ascending toward the Feeding Area as fast as his arms can carry him.
2m to start, 1/2 Phase 6m Running = 3m Climbing, 5m out of 10m this Phase with 1/2 Phase remaining

Marduke - The Stygian wretch cries out as his pick falls from numbed digits before gripping his hand to his chest and gazing upon the red-haired giant in fear.  Whatever bravado which emboldened him before is now fled; he appears intent upon following it.
Pick drops to the dirt at your feat

Amalric - No sooner has the hapless slave driver hit the floor of the pit than the  Nemedian falls upon him.  Though the pair wrestle the slaver somehow manages to elude Amalric's hold.
21:04, Today: Crom, on behalf of Amalric, rolled 9,-1 using 2d6+1d3,14-3d6 with rolls of 5,3,1;4,6,5.  Squeeze Dmg, Grab.
- Grab failed, hit DCV -1

Slave Drivers - As the chaos reaches the Feeding Area the slave drivers there, the worst the Pit held, fight for their lives.  The driver Amalric tries to grab swings wildly with his club, clipping the Nemedian on the arm though he barely grunts from the impact. One slaver, having just witnessed Syssiah push his comrade over the lip of the Feeding Area, tries to grab the Zamorian princess but she dances lithely aside....into the arc of the 2nd Slave Driver's truncheon!  Meanwhile a Slaver swings wildly at Niamh, hitting only empty air.  Finally two move in upon Chang from the side; one the Khiati easily avoids but the second aims a solid blow toward Chang's chest!

21:34, Today: Crom, on behalf of Amalric, rolled 8,13,4 using 3d6,5d6,14-3d6 with rolls of 1,5,2,2,4,1,1,5,6,3,1.  Slave Driver 1, location, dmg, attack Almeric.
- hit DCV 4 (Almeric at DCV 3 from his failed Grab) in Arm for 8 STUN, 3 BODY (no dmg after defenses)

21:35, Today: Crom, on behalf of Amalric, rolled 6,3 using 2d6,14-3d6 with rolls of 3,3,5,2,4.  Slave Driver 2, Squeeze, Grab attack Syssiah.
- Grab misses

21:36, Today: Crom, on behalf of Amalric, rolled 8,15,6 using 3d6,5d6,14-3d6 with rolls of 1,6,1,2,3,2,5,3,3,3,2.  SD3, location, truncheon, hit vs Syssiah.
- Hit DCV 6 (Syssiah at 5 DCV from Shove), in Arm for 7 STUN 3 BODY (no dmg after defenses)

21:38, Today: Crom rolled 13,15,-1 using 3d6,5d6,14-3d6 with rolls of 5,6,2,6,1,1,1,6,6,5,4.  SD4, location, truncheon, hit vs Niamh .
- Miss

21:38, Today: Crom rolled 10,19,7 using 3d6,5d6,14-3d6 with rolls of 2,6,2,6,6,2,4,1,3,2,2.  SD5, location, truncheon, hit vs Chang.
- Miss thanks to Martial Punch's +2 DCV

21:38, Today: Crom rolled 16,10,1 using 3d6,5d6,14-3d6 with rolls of 6,6,4,1,4,3,1,1,4,6,3.  SD8, location, truncheon, hit vs Chang.
- Miss

No damage from any Slave Driver

Slaves - The slaves around Ludvik press closer and closer in their desperation for freedom from the shackles which hamper them.  Others on the outer edges forego the this desire and instead move to join the surge up and onto the Feeding Area; many climbing the walls just has some of their brethren had begun.  Some few already unshackled reach the ladder behind Tiberio while the remainder continue their climb.  Finally, those near the combat move away to protect themselves from the violence....all except those near the feeding table.  All are well aware of the gnawing hunger the slaves feel and while those who have already grabbed their meager bread and watery meal are content....those still in line will not retreat with sustenance so near at hand!

Chang, please make your attack/dmg rolls when you have a chance

Sarajen clambers on the walls, watching for any threats from above. He was keenly aware that he was vulnerable while climbing, but he didn't want that to stop him from reaching the top.

As he climbed the walls with practiced skill, he was hoping to surprise a slaver on top, perhaps pull them down to the bottom floor as they looked elsewhere. The fall would certainly do far more damage than his bare hands ever could.

OOC:
21:17, Today: Sarajen rolled 9 using 3d6 with rolls of 1,5,3.  Climbing Roll to go faster - 14-.

Which slave driver is your target?  They are labeled in the picture; 3 & 4 are both at hand.

(Slaver #4...and she would prefer to do the Move Through, but I didn't think she could being right next to the guy. I think the target is still 14-, but I'm okay with just making it a Trip if changing things up isn't cool...which I totally get.)

I'm good if you would like to perform the Move Through.  You'll be at -2 OCV -3 DCV until your next Phase.  Can only use your normal 7 PD to resist the damage you'll take; which will probably be more than enough to handle it.

If you choose to go with that roll your Move Through damage and then take half that that yourself.

Ludvik curses under his breath as the Kushite expresses his, understandable, impatience.  Hefting the hammer and spike again he readies then strikes another blow.  This one strikes more true however, the focus of the Hyperborean staying firmly on his task ... blocking out his surroundings almost entirely.

If this strike frees the Kushite he will get the manacle off of the ankle of the man and then pass it up to him so he can keep it from getting tangled/caught on anything.  Then he is on to the next man.  He will look for someone who, like the Kushite, seems ready and willing to fight when freed.

7 STUN & 3 BODY to Niamh's Thigh (ping off defense) & 7 STUN & 3 BODY to SD 4's shoulder, he'll take a small bit of STUN

Ludvik - The lock-pin bounces in the red dirt as it separates from the Kushite slave's manacles.  With a primitive howl the savage savage turns toward the ladder and waiting freedom.  More slaves shuffle impatiently; faces of the Pit swim before Ludvik calling out in over a dozen languages for freedom.
1 more slave with legs unencumbered

Tibero - As the Pict rebounds from the slaver, Tibero's truncheon takes the fellow square between the eyes, snapping his head back.  Though he remains upright there is a thin line of blood from a purple bruise; his eyes seem unfocused.
CON Stunned, barely conscious, 1/2 DCV

Marduke - The Vanier gains the ladder, shouldering aside the slave making ready for her own ascent.  Up his powerful arms carry him as he begins his climb.
3m up out of 10m

Amalric - Undeterred by the slaver's truncheon, the Nemedian presses the attack, finally managing to trap the filthy brute's arms.
Grab successful, Almeric is at 1/2 DCV, full OCV vs grabbed slaver, slaver -3 OCV vs Almeric and 1/2 DCV

Nazarus - Having taken advantage of the confusion, the Whip rises from between the press of slaves and leaps upon the feeding table.  An audible gasp rises from the surrounding mob as trays of bread sway and pots of watery gruel bounce.  Yet none of the meager sustenance falls and the wretches continue to grab their fare quickly amidst the battle.  The whip lashes out over the heads of slave and driver alike, licking towards Chang.  The crack of the lash rises near upon Chang's ear but well away from him.
