Martial Arts - only available for related Fighting Tricks skills (no reduction in cost for this requirement).

Can I get an example or two of how you are thinking about this, and how do +DC's work into this concept.

Only characters who purchase Fighting Tricks: Swords can have access to these and they only work with Swords.

Martial Arts are considered the pinnacle of expertise with a particular weapon group (or unarmed).  Only someone who has devoted themselves to that particular weapon/style can purchase them.  You are only required to purchase 10 points.

Now, I'm not going to restrict on what maneuvers are in any martial style; come up with those as you will.  Bottom line is that the will only be usable with that particular weapon.

If a character also wanted to have Brawling Tricks they could pick a separate set of Brawling Martial Arts, perhaps like:

Again, minimum of 10 points of maneuvers required.

You're not required to purchase any Martial Arts to go with your Fighting Tricks.

Adding DC
6E2 p 99 - 102 cover adding DC to powers, the table on p101 is particularly helpful in calculating damage increase from DC or STR.

Take a Board/Long Sword:  1d6+1k, no advantages that directly increase damage
Using Slash from the Swordfighting martial arts the weapon would do 2d6k before adding any STR above the STR minimum of 12

Compare that to a Military Pick: 1d6+1k AP.  Using Slash from a Pickfighting martial arts style, the weapon would do 2d6-1k before adding any STR above the STR minimum of 13.

EDIT: I can't count, Strike give +2 DC and I counted 3 down the chart instead.  Damage adjustment from the martial maneuver should now be correct

Alright, from my perspective we have great synergy skill-wise.

We both went for differing focus, even if we go ahead and start play with two, I feel good about that.

I have finished mechanics, working on Complications next, then background.

Not going to lie, I liked an earlier version of Chang that focused a little more on the KS: Khaiti Healing and Paramedics skill.  Seemed like a great niche.  Not that being a whirlwind of bare-handed carnage is bad.

Do you think you really need KS: Kung Fu on a 12-?  11- is considered professionally trained/college degree in Hero System.

Languages might be very useful for him.  But....points...yeah, never enough.

Do you need both Throw and Legsweep?  Would definitely keep Knife Hand but could you drop one other maneuvers?

Don't know that I have any other thoughts on him; he looks good.

I do recommend everyone have at least 1 common language.

Glad to be on board.

I have a character named Sarajen, an old wizened ... uhm... "purveyor of lost or forgotten goods". Yes, that's it. For the right coin, you can have Sarajen get anything you want. It doesn't matter if it is someone else's possession at the moment. You pay, Sarajen gets it.

Sarajen has been many places, and seen too many things not meant for living eyes. But he is tough and resilient, like old saltened beef or rough hide.

Now he finds himself in the Red Pit, thanks to a traitorous wench, paid to get him drunk. He'll get her yet.

Ok, I still need to come up with some background and some complications, but all in due time.

2       Equipment Points: 10
- Not going to use Equipment points so you can redistribute these elsewhere

2       Ancient Bloodline
- This allows you stats to go over 17 but you don't have any that do so and none close that they could after an adventure or two.  Do you really want this Perk?

4       +1 Ranged Damage Class(es)
- I didn't state it in Character Creation but not going to allow Damage Classes.  Instead you can buy Combat Skill levels, every 2 can be used to add 1 DC.

Cost    Martial Arts, Bow Mastery (Normal Bows Only)
- This will require a Power Skill: Fighting Tricks Bows skill.

If you can find the points you might also consider Fighting Tricks: Whip.  Even without Martial Arts for it you can still do some impressive things with Fighting Tricks.

4       +1 with INT Skills
6       +1 with all DEX skills

Have updated Character Creation Guidelines to address no DC for Martial Arts.

Also, Everyman skills include Cultural Knowledge of your home country or city at 11-.

Edit: And added note regarding skill levels for related stats which are 23 or higher due to purchase of Ancient Bloodlines Perk at the 5 point level

Ok, made some updates and improvements on the No Martial Arts DCs, used Combat Skill Levels instead.

So, when we want to use a "combat trick", we have to roll our Tricks skill every time?

Martial Arts do not require a roll.

Combat skill levels when used will require a roll

Any other combat talent will require a roll as, more than likely, it was bought with the limitation Requires a Fighting Tricks roll.  Of course, there are examples like Berserk which are not weapon related and do not have such a limitation.

Edit: and yes using the Fighting Trick directly for a "one off" or to impress (see description) will require a roll

Double check his "powers". I am using the whip to have him swing from things he can grip like he was born to it. I have bought 4m of Swinging, OAF Whip. He still has to take the time to hit his target, so it requires an attack roll. But once he's got a grip, he can do a lot with those 4m of Swinging. He makes it look easy.

Ok, I did see the sense in removing the DEX level and adding it straight to his actual DEX. Now Sarajen is a wiry, fast little bugger, with reflexes not typically seen among people.
