Re: The Startening

In reply to Twiz (msg # 269):

Balance believes that immortals shouldn't interfere with mortal's lives.
The only rule I can think of he set for Fithelos was that no one else get involved with what he is doing as it may alter the decisions he makes.

If Balance is neutrality, then neutrality would mean Fithelos would do as little as possible to interfere with mortal lives. The majority of his actions--whether the intentions were good or devious--have all ended poorly.
His conclusion and understanding amounts to he, Fithelos, making little to no footprint in this world. He will try to alter things without taking sides while refrain from killing. (Killing is something Balance refrains from, if I remember correctly).

Re: The Startening

In reply to Fithelos (msg # 270):

Titan of Balance:
Balance waves his hand to the side and a map, seemingly made of light, unravels. See Game Map

"... your journey will start at the remote Shrine of Sacrifice in the northeast, and end when you have retrieved an eye of a dragon from Dungeon Destard in the south.  Whether your path is direct, or takes you to other parts of the island nation is up to you. ..."

Balance:
The journey will be long and have many opportunities to improve yourself and your situation...

He did not tell Fithelos he had to do anything except retrieve the eye.

That being said, you hit Balance pretty spot on.

Also, I don't completely agree on your view of neutrality, but don't really feel like a philosophical debate.

Lastly, I'm in Atlantic City again, so as long as I'm in the lab, I won't get any signals.

I need to know what Fithelos main thoughts are going into this.
Is he going to fight, reason, find a loophole...?
His state of mind will alter the encounter.

In reply to Twiz (msg # 273):

If he can still speak Draconic by the time he reaches the Dragon, he will attempt to reason with her. Reason or find a loophole, even though a part of him feels neither one will succeed...I guess you could say it's kind of what he hopes he can accomplish.

Re: The Startening

In reply to Fithelos (msg # 274):

The closer you get to Destard, the sounds and smells of anything living seem to disappear. At roughly a half-mile out, you can see the trees have been knocked over for a few hundred yards around the entrance.  As you pause taking in the destruction, you see the dragon exit the cavern, and immediately fly up over the mountain and away from you.  The dragons is white iridescent at first, but, once in the air, is almost invisible against the sky.  Had you not known where to look, you would not have known where she there.

In reply to Twiz (msg # 275):

Fithelos will take a deep breath and then exhale slowly.
Moving forward, he will go to the cave entrance. He will walk inside and then step out again, assuming the dragon had a type of alarm-spell in place.

If he can climb the side of the cave, he will find a place where he thinks he might be at eye level with the dragon when sitting and lower himself into a cross legged position and meditate/wait for Fraiti.

Re: The Startening

In reply to Fithelos (msg # 276):

When you pass into the cave, it appears to be larger than the mountain itself. Bones of different animals and people line the walls.

The cavern is purely lit, but enough you can see a single, normal-looking wooden door at the end of the cave.

If you continue your original idea, the door is framed with an arch you could probably stand/sit on, though it is no where close to being eye level. You're not really sure what the dragon would use the door for.

Continue?

Re: The Startening

In reply to Fithelos (msg # 280):

You see a small ray of blue light coming from a crack in the archway. You put your finger on it, pushing some dirt out of the way, exposing a line in the archway. You wipe straight down to the floor, then up as high as you can reach. You jump up to stops some more dirt off and your hand brushes against another handle.
The door with the locks is a decoy;there nothing but stone behind it. The actual door is much larger, and it appears as if even the ceiling is part of the illusion (physical, it magical).

Re: The Startening

In reply to Fithelos (msg # 282):

You jump up again, this time grabbing the handle. Without any effort in your part, the door begins to quietly open.
Once inside, you are on a ledge overlooking what is obviously Fraiti's massive treasure hoard. Rolling hills of coinage, a section dedicated to bars of different metals, jewels and decorative armor and weapons filling in the gaps.
Off to the right, behind a mound if gold and platinum coins, movement catches your eye and a few coins near the top fall to the ground.
The door behind you slowly and quietly closes.

In reply to Twiz (msg # 285):

Common, then Draconic.

Or...shoot. I don't know if Fraiti even speaks Draconic. I just asked Balance to help me speak the language of Fraiti. I didn't specify what that might be. And I can only assume I received the ability after breaking the hourglass.

So, just common I suppose.

Re: The Startening

In reply to Fithelos (msg # 288):

When you first yell you see the treasure start to move, as if something large is swimming in it.
You yell again in Draconic and the front half disappears, the there is a crashing sound as it reappears and separates from the back half, and treasure behind to fall and get pushed aside as if something was rolling across the top of it.
Then both ripped to invisible for a bruisedmoment, before you hear, in Draconic,
"Hey, watch where you're going butt head."
"You're the one who stopped suddenly!"
Then they both stand up, heads above the treasure, and you see two small dragons. Once seeing their heads, your vision adjusts and their outlines slowly come into view. Each is probably about half your height standing on all four legs.

The first looks up at you and says, "Look, it's food, but it talks."

The second interrupts, "Wait, did momma drop you off so we could practice the hunt? I've been itching for a fight." He roars excitedly, but when he did, you hear an unintelligible voice in your head.

"I don't think I'd be very tasty, young one. Nor would I pose much of a challenge. But, I wonder, do you like a challenge? Or are you one of those dragonlings who is too scared and afraid to take on anything more dangerous than itself?"

Fithelos takes a seat. "I'm not going to run from either of you. If you think having your meal walk into your home and lying down before you is hunting--you shame all dragons. I'm simply hear to speak with your mother and then I'll take my leave."

2, "Hey, you can't talk to me like that.  I'll..." 1 drops on his head and you hear 2 mumbling, while 1 says, "Why do you wanna talk to momma? She said you guys are never worth dealing with."

2 knocks 1 off his head.  "Yeah, you be careful or momma will rip you to shreds!"  You can tell his ego is bruised, partly from 1 sitting on his head, partly from your belittlement of him.

Fithelos sighs. "My apologies young Masters. It was not my intent to insult you; it's been a long journey and most of those whom I've met...I've failed to befriend." He pauses. "Much of it having to do with my inability to communicate and understand people. Or...dragons, in this case. If you'll allow, perhaps we could start over?"

Fithelos stands back up. While bowing, he introduces himself. "Greetings, offspring of the great Fraiti, Masters of Destard and mighty Lords of the Sky. I am Fithelos of Aber-Toril. It is an honor to make your acquaintance."
