The Startening

I'm taking some liberty with your character to get setup.  If there is anything you don't like, let me know and we'll change it.  I did my best to match what personality I could gather from your background/character sheet.

It was the middle of the night in Amn.  Fithelos had setup camp east across Lake Esmel from Esmeltaran, on his way to claim his most recent bounty.  He could have made it to town earlier that evening, but preferred to spend the night away from the unfamiliar people in town (not that he was familiar with anyone from any town).  At least with the creatures that might pass his camp, he can always determine their intentions.  Normally the area would be busy, but the winter was particularly cold this year.  The rivers fed from The Snakewood had nearly frozen solid.  Anyone braving the cold would be at the hot springs across the lake.
Still, Fithelos felt like he was being watched.  "Judged" would probably be a more appropriate term.  It didn't worry him.  He was always prepared for an attack.  He planned to do one more quick scan of the area before lying down and closing his eyes.  Not to sleep, but to tempt whatever might be out there into attacking.

Before laying out the trap, a massive door unravels and opens in front of him.  A man, at least 10' tall, dressed in pure white monk's robes with a white mask and plain white staff nearly as tall as himself, glides through.

In reply to Titan of Balance (msg # 2):

"Balance?" Fithelos asks, mostly to himself. He makes no move to kneel, bow or greet the being with any kind of respect whatsoever. "And what are you, may I ask? Forgive my bluntness, but surely your divining powers revealed I'm not interested in serving immortal beings." He smirks. "Besides, you should know I am currently bound to serve another."

As an afterthought, Fithelos slaps the side of his leg. "You should also be aware I'm a cripple. No cleric I've met can heal it, though I'm not at all surprised considering how it was...healed...to begin with."

Fithelos limps to the nearest tree, leans back against it and slides down into a sitting position. "Speak your piece if you wish, but know I have experienced much disappointment in my time by putting my trust in greater powers." He pulls his ragged cloak together to cover his arms and legs and waits for Balance's response.

OOC: Fithelos limps everywhere as a deception to make himself look weak. It is second nature to him. If this Avatar/Titan thing has been watching him, he'll of course know it's a ruse. Fithelos knows there will be some who see through the deception, but he'll continue to do so anyway.

In reply to Fithelos (msg # 3):

"I am a Titan, born when the blood of Aba and Ashar Talosfused together."

"The task I ask of you does not contradict your current service to Fraz-Urb'luu. You may refuse my request, but know I will be searching for your replacement while your body is rotting in the ground."

"Your leg should not be an issue on this journey. It will only be as difficult as you decide to make it. Your soul is the only thing that matters to me at the moment."

Balance lifts his staff and spins it with one hand, then stops it at an angle and off-center, yet somehow balanced on one finger. The lower, longer side fills with a deep purple, while the other side turns gold. He does this several times. The colors never mix and always stay on the same side of his finger, but the point at which it rests on his finger and the resultant angle change every time. During this, he continues to speak.

“Almost every living creature able to understand good and bad, leans to one side. Sometimes more, sometimes less. You, however, do not.”

Balance stops the staff once last time. This time the staff is perfectly horizontal and the colors begin to flow until each other like liquids. As they do, the staff fades to a dull white. Not a bright white as it had been when Balance first arrived, but the purple and gold are completely gone.

“I need someone who walks this fine line to retrieve the eye of a dragon. I am not asking you to put any trust in me and I promise nothing in return for completing this task. The journey will be long and have many opportunities to improve yourself and your situation, though it is obvious it is not as dire as you make people believe.  There will also be many chances to fail, as you will not be able to enlist the help of others along the way. Doing so would taint the outcome. You won’t be completely alone. I will grant you the ability to call upon myself or one of my brothers for 1 minute each day. During that time, you will be granted a limited set of our abilities to solve the problem at hand.”

“What say you, Fithelos? Do you accept?”

In reply to Titan of Balance (msg # 4):

Fithelos sighs when the titan speaks about him rotting in the ground, his eyes go distant as he stares at the ground. He continues to listen to the rest of what Balance has to say in silence. When the question is asked if Fithelos accepts, the former monk looks up and nods.

"Seems fair, I guess. I'll accept," he tilts his head slightly to the side, studying the staff. "Can I have your stick?"

In reply to Fithelos (msg # 5):

"My staff is an extension of myself. It does not exist without me."

If Balance had any emotion, you could not detect it.

Balance holds his hand, palm up towards you. A small hourglass appears and floats toward you. As it gets closer, you can see half is filed with purple sand, the other gold. Both appear to be draining to the other side no matter how the hourglass sits, turning into white sand as the mix.

"When the sand is solid white, you make hold it to your lips, speak your request, then break it to call for the Titan whose skills are best suited to meet your request. If we refuse to answer your request, the hourglass will not break."

In reply to Titan of Balance (msg # 6):

Fithelos will take the hourglass and slip it into his pocket. "You'll have to forgive my ignorance, but I do not know what you or your brothers are capable of doing. I only know you by the name you've given me. Other than the tricks you perform with your staff, what can you assist me with? Questions? Battle? Gold?"

Fithelos gets back to his feet. "Will it count against me if I were to request a map to this dragon eye you spoke of?"
