The Startening... Again

In reply to Twiz (msg # 605):

"Lunk," he points to the dust. Then he points to the other combatants. "Charge."

The Startening... Again

In reply to Fithelos (msg # 606):

He turns and runs through the nearest combatant, creating a pile of dust where the orange-vested man once stood.

Read your message better.

He then tries to smash through the next combatant, but indigo steps to the side and trips Lunk with his staff.  Red and Orange are reborn from their dust.  All of the combatants slam their staffs into the ground, grunt loudly, then get back into a defensive position.

Also, it makes no difference to me if Rocky or Fithelos solve these riddles.  If you want to play it through Fithelos's eyes, I understand completely.  If you want to get past the riddles, Rocky can do some inception.  Well If Fithelos would like help, he can always roll.

In reply to Twiz (msg # 607):

I read it fine. I made the assumption the dust was red because he was wearing a red vest. Also, red dust looks cooler in my head. Not to mention, for all I know it could have been a mistype and red dust is what you intended to write.

Wasn't the point of the post that he turned to dust? What difference does it make what color it is?

Bah. Whatever.

Fithelos scratches his chin. "Alright Lunk, lets test a theory. I POINT, YOU CHARGE." He points to the red clothed one, then to the orange, then to the violet.

In reply to Fithelos (msg # 608):

LOL, I mean I read your message better, not that you need to.  It made total sense in my head.  There was a pretty big delay between my original message and my edit so I wanted to make sure you knew I edited something in case you read it.
I actually never considered the color of the dust.  I was meaning you told him to smash all of them, not just the closest one.

The red and orange turn to dust.  The violet counters, knocking Lunk back.  Red and Orange are back, all of the combatants slam their staffs into the ground, grunt loudly, then get back into a defensive position.

I totally forgot to add a clue!  My note-taking has been sub-par recently and I apologize.

You notice the number on the glass wall has changed from 5,040 to only 72.  A not below read, "*4,968 combinations eliminated".

In reply to Twiz (msg # 609):

Fithelos will continue with this methodology until 3 of the combatants turn to dust.

Red Orange--

Indigo, Violet

Next color to try after Red & Orange will be--

Yellow, then Green, then Blue.

Each time the combatants reset, Red and Orange will always be the first to go before attempting a new color.

72 down to 24, 5,016 combinations eliminated

Green goes down.
6 and 5,034

Blue goes down.
2 and 5,038

You have violet and indigo left.

Indigo, then violet.

If that doesn't work, we'll go back to the beginning--and proceed with eliminating the combatants with vests the color of (Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Violet, Indigo)

Indigo falls.
1 and 5,039.

Violet falls,
0 and 5,040.

The glass fades away, stairs form to a new door a level up, and the combatants come back, this time they're sitting cross-legged, staffs beside them.

Lunk smiles when you pat his head and follows you up the stairs.

I assume you go through the door.

On the other side of the door is the library.  As far as you can tell, it's not really any different than before.  Endless rows of shelves.  Once Lunk is through the door, it fades away to show another view of endless rows of shelves.

Fithelos remembers the librarian saying, "If you need more help, in another room, just call for me."

The Startening... Again

In reply to Twiz (msg # 621):

Fithelos thinks about asking the Librarian for help, but he refrains from asking because he doesn't feel like being redirected to a another puzzle room.
He should have assumed that everything anyone said to him was going to have a double meaning.

"Librarian. It is treatment like this that causes other, less patient and understanding individuals to turn into murder-hobos. If you don't want me to know where the books are, just bring them to me. If you don't trust me with the material send someone to turn the pages for me.
"Tell me though, so I'm not stuck in here for eternity trying to solve puzzles you know I won't pass."

The Startening... Again

In reply to Fithelos (msg # 622):

When you say, "Librarian" you hear here shelving on the next row over.

The librarian, overhearing you, comes around, "I'm sorry.  I don't think we've met.  I'm the librarian for this room." She looks the same to you.  "I'm sorry if there is a misunderstanding.  I just tend to the texts.  I've never been outside of this room.  If your card is in my room, I can help.  Otherwise, you'll have to find another librarian.  Also, all texts are available for anyone to read.  Here."  She grabs a frail piece of paper off the shelf and hands it to Lunk. "It's the only known drawing of Hastur the Unspeakable."

You see a glimpse of the paper as Lunk takes it from her, but it falls apart in the process.  The librarian reaches onto the shelf and somehow grabs the same paper, offering it to you.
Librarian, "So can I help you find your shelf?"

"Yes, please. It would be most appreciated. This is my card, if that helps."
Fithelos will show her his card.

In reply to Fithelos (msg # 624):

If you took the paper from her, you have it long enough to get a glimpse before it falls apart.  Otherwise, she re-shelves it.

She gets in real close, squinting to read your card.
"Let's see, that's not my room.  Hmm, that looks like by geography by time.  That's going to be one floor up and one room over.  Currently you're in by elevation by number of character by time.  Follow me."  She grabs her carts and starts pushing it past you, but bumps into a shelf. "Sorry, excuse me, I just need to get by." She adjusts and starts heading down the hall.  18 rows and a right and you find another door.  "This will be the stairwell up."

"Whoa, wait a second. I was told by...before you...is there any kind of 'test' or 'puzzle' I'll have to complete if I go to another floor? I'm starting to get this feeling I'm going to always be just out of reach of what I'm looking for. Any chance you could stack your cart full of the books from the section I searching for and return them to me? Or is that against the rules?"

In reply to Fithelos (msg # 626):

"I don't fill the cart.  The library fills the cart with all the new titles and I shelf them.  As far as 'tests' go, librarians are not allowed out of their rooms.  I cannot even see into the stairwell.  But I don't think you're room is out of reach.  You're only one floor down and one room over."

In reply to Fithelos (msg # 628):

Once in the stairwell, a door with eight locks in it (like deadbolts, not padlocks), four on each side, blocks your access to the stairs.  In front of the door on a table is 8 open display cases.  Each case contains a key sitting in a velvet-padded cushion, shaped specifically for that key.  Lunk is now behind glass by himself.  He knocks on the glass to get your attention, but you cannot hear him. As the new riddle appears on the glass, it turns into a mirror, hiding Lunk.  Its seems as though you are on your own for this one.

Clue on the Glass
  Eight keys before you,
  Eight locks inside the door.
When each key is in its rightful place,
  The library you may explore.

Fithelos will pick up all the keys and carry them over to the door. He'll then try them one at a time on each lock until they're all unlocked.

At least...when you say deadbolts...I'm assuming I'm looking at the side with the keyhole facing me?
