The DM's Table

In between sessions, we need to do a little housekeeping. First, Bonds. I'm sure you noticed them on your sheet. They are little blurbs that help illustrate how the characters relate to each other. They provide bonuses (or penalties) to some Moves, as well as opportunities for extra Experience in-between sessions.
First thing is to resolve any Bonds you might have. Since we didn't start out with any, we can skip that step now. It will become more important at the end of future sessions.
After you resolve any Bonds you have feel you've played out (or don't make sense anymore), choose new Bonds. For example, you might choose "Ileosa trusted me with a secret," as she told you that the mountain is broken and cut off from the land (msg #5). Or perhaps "Bryn doesn't trust me, and for good reason," since you poured out the dwarven stout and she took offense (msg #23).
Don't feel like you have to make bonds with every NPC, and you can select the same NPC for multiple bonds.

After Bonds, we need to consider your Alignment. If you feel you fulfilled your alignment at least once this last session, you gain +1 XP. Your alignment is: Chaotic: Spur others to significant and unplanned decisive action. Please let me know if you feel you did anything to illustrate that.

After Alignment, you need to ask yourself three questions:
  1. Did we learn something new and important about the world?
  2. Did we overcome a notable monster or enemy?
  3. Did we loot a memorable treasure?

You gain +1 XP for each "yes."

After all that, you add up your XP. Once you have XP equal to (or greater than) your current level+7, you advance in level.

My records show that you have 1 XP before answering the questions above. Please follow the steps above and let me know what you think, or if you have any questions or concerns.

Re: The DM's Table

GM:
First, Bonds.

  • I am writing a ballad about the adventures of Sketch.
  • Ileosa trusted me with a secret.

GM:

I feel like getting people to spray dwarven ale on a powder keg and throw it into a monster's mouth was pretty decisive, maybe even unplanned.

  2. Did we overcome a notable monster or enemy?
  3. Did we loot a memorable treasure?

  • Something new and important about the world: There are magical connections between geographical features and the health/wellbeing of plant and animal life (e.g. the mountain gets wounded and monsters and weird goo show up.)
  • Overcome a notable monster or enemy: Giant tentacle guy. I'm assuming he's dead now?
  • Loot a memorable treasure: Not really, unless you count dwarven ale.

Re: The DM's Table

I agree. You'll be awarded +3 XP from End of Session. Add that to the XP earned during the session leaves you at 4 XP. I'll update your sheet.

Re: The DM's Table

I thought The Outpost session was a pretty good, and has exposed you to how the kingdom building elements will work going forward. Hopefully you are also find the world interesting and engaging. If not, please let me know. I want this to be a world you want to explore.
Please let me know what you think of the game/session so far, and then consider the below.

As of this post, I have you at 6XP.

BONDS
Do you feel any of your bonds have been played out, or are no longer relevant?
Would you like to add any additional bonds?

ALIGNMENT
Do you feel you fulfilled your alignment at least once this last session?

THE 3 QUESTIONS
  1. Did we learn something new and important about the world?
  2. Did we overcome a notable monster or enemy?
  3. Did we loot a memorable treasure?

Re: The DM's Table

First off, happy April Fools day. I didn't come up with a joke this year. Not for ennui reasons; I'm just lazy.

BONDS
I don't think any of my bonds came up especially this session. Ileosa left for the wider world and I'm still keeping her secret, but it hasn't actively influenced the plot.

I'm tempted to add the bond "Allessia is often the butt of my jokes" but I'm not 100% sure that's how I view her character yet. She is annoying though.

ALIGNMENT
The stuff with PhosCo and the miners seemed vaguely chaotic. I'm not sure Liam was the impetus behind any of that. He was more like the hand on the scales, tipping them slightly towards chaos whenever Sketch or Duncan gave him a chance. Your call on whether that fulfilled the alignment.

THE 3 QUESTIONS
  1. Did we learn something new and important about the world? For sure. Liam now knows he's trapped in some kind of demi-plane or even other plane (although he himself would not grasp the meaning of these terms or their full implications.) If one person leaves, another must remain in her place.

  2. Did we overcome a notable monster or enemy? I felt like Liam was running away and just trying to survive. None of the encounters felt like a major victory (in-character, that is. As far as roleplaying and having fun, they were successes.)

  3. Did we loot a memorable treasure? Only if you count Allessia, and she's not worth what we gave up (Ileosa).

Re: The DM's Table

I agree. I'll award you +1 XP for learning about the world. Get ready for the next session, The Colony.
