Re: Ground Floor - Scorpion Hall
Abandoning the dead lizard to the local rubble runner population Valenstos heads north along the corridor, clambering over rubble heaps where necessary, until he comes to the door in the west wall.

(If it's open he'll take a surreptitious glance, if closed he'll listen for any movement)

Re: Ground Floor - Scorpion Hall
You place your helmeted head against the door but hear nothing. It is like the other doors you have see so far; thick bog-cypress planks of over an inch thickness. You cautiously push the door open.

You have entered what may have once been a shrine. There is another door in the centre of the south wall and the walls are covered in lured carvings of trolls doing various things either unspeakable or incomprehensible. Smallish bones are scattered across the floor interspersed with decayed trollkin armour and disintegrating bedrolls. Against the east wall is a defaced statue of Kyger Litor, the troll ancestress. There is an inscription on its base.

After searching through the detritus in the room Valenstos goes to look at the statue, expecting the inscription to be in darktongue he doesn't hold out much hope of being able to read it.

Re: Ground Floor - Scorpion Hall
Squinting in the dim light you see it is indeed a dark tongue inscription. There appears to be nothing else in this room.

Re: Ground Floor - Scorpion Hall
Passing quite a few doors you first listen to the door and then cautiously open it.
Like everywhere else so far there's enough chinks in the walls to allow a certain amount of dim light that your eyes have long become adjusted to.

The long hallway has the remains of stairs going up at the far end which have collapsed, leading you to think the upper levels are probably no longer accessible, from this part of Scorpion Hall at least. Along the south wall in the section bordering the courtyard are yet more clogged arrow slits that have been stuffed with various bits of trash in an attempt to keep the light out. Like elsewhere in the hall the corridor is made of closely fitted stones and the roof is a long series of barrel arches. The stonework is, to your eyes, fairly advanced.

Apart from the door you came in through and the door leading to the courtyard there are two doors in the north wall spaced fairly far apart.

At this time you realise you've probably missed a few doors behind you.

Valenstos pauses and thinks for a moment deciding he'd better not leave unopned doors behind him in case something is lurking there. He heads back to the first unopened door (OOC: The one circled on your map in the N-S corridor) and listens at it.

Re: Ground Floor - Scorpion Hall
As you open the door your eyes take in another large barrel-vaulted room two two and a half metres high. Across from you is a low railing guarding what looks like the side of a stairway descending into the cellars of Scorpion Hall.
It is hard to work out what this room was once for as there is no furniture in here but it might have been storage or another accommodation area. You start to suspect that there was once a level above this one that has long since been razed as the the heavy ceiling has had many chunks of rock fall from it which litter the ground that might be from the destruction of the first floor.

However, you have no further time to think on this matter. You suddenly see up in the shadows of the ceiling vaults a horrid monster unlike anything you've ever seen or heard of. It is shaped roughly like a sort of spider but is a foul flesh colour and easily bigger than you are. Instead of a spider's mouthpieces it has a maw filled with jagged teeth. While it clings to the ceiling it quickly flicks a strand of web at you that shoots out and attaches to your shield.

Arcane power surges through you thrice and you hurl spells out the awful monster. Red weals appear on its body and it recoils over and over again. It's insane eyes do not flinch though and once again it sends a strand flicking down at you that sticks to your left greave.

The spells tear through the creature, tearing ugly bleeding rips in. It tries to scuttle quickly down the stairs but the last one knocks it off the ceiling and it falls onto the tops of the stairs and thrashes about.

Re: Ground Floor - Scorpion Hall
You drive the spear deep into the creature which writhes around the shaft. With a grunt of disgust you yank the spear free and the shuddering beast goes still.

With some disquiet you inspect the monster. You've never seen or heard anything like this before and you get a chilling suspicion that it is not even of this world. While there's enough horrors on Glorantha that a hardened warrior such as yourself has become accustomed to many of them you still feel a shudder of apprehension when it comes to demons.

Re: Ground Floor - Scorpion Hall
Retracing your steps you ascend the worn-smooth stone stairs and come back out onto the ground floor. The room still stinks of the sulfurous spider demon. Brushing off an involuntary shudder you re-enter the corridor and try the northern door.

The small room you enter seems to be some sort of antechamber and you note that both the doors you see apart from the one you entered have large runes engraved in them. The northern door has harmony and darkness runes incised on its surface and the eastern door displays a death rune. It turns out the eastern door is also locked and just below the door handle is an ornate lock-plate. If you had brought lock picks you may have been able to pick the lock.

Not having the required tools to open the door  Valenstos turns his attention to the northern door. Harmony and darkness runes seem more hopeful than death at any rate. Preparing his bladesharp spell he tries the handle on the door and slowly begins to open it.

Looking in Valenstos sees a long and narrow room. Shelves line the east and west walls and are covered in paints, unguents, lotions, brushes, a few drums and some small, unrecognisable but you suppose musical instruments. It's quite messy.

You have a look through the clutter and yawn slightly, it's been a hard day. Suddenly you feel very drowsy, very drowsy. With alarm you realise you have to get out of this room.

Slowly you awake, feeling muzzy and sluggish until you jar into full consciousness when you remember where you are. You quickly check the surroundings but there's nothing moving, you gather your dropped equipment and quickly leave.

As you pause outside the door you suddenly realise that something's happened to your memory, you can't remember some spells!

(OOC: One point of Healing and your Disruption spell are not available.)

Re: Ground Floor - Scorpion Hall
Carefully you move out into the harsh sunlight. A hot breeze blows across the courtyard and far away down river you hear a horrid shriek as something meets its end. Shuddering, you creep downhill from Scorpionhall and notice that the carcass of the dead scorpionman hunter you fought has been largely eaten. After a tense twenty minutes of working your way through the ruins you've made it back to your camp. Here you can easily get back to the safety of New Pavis or rest and return immediately.
