Cellar Floor - Scorpion Hall.
You descend into a heavily vaulted room that has three doors leading out of it, one each in the northern, southern and western walls. The room is clear of furniture and once appears to have probably been a guard room. It is cooler down here and the air has a very slightly strange taste to it. Sort of like the smooth smell a snake has.

In reply to Jim (msg # 1):

Valenstos scours the room for bits of wood and other combustible material so he can light a small fire. Once he has a fire going he attempts to open the southern door.

Holding your spear and shield in one hand and the blazing rags and tinder in the other, you shoulder open the door.

You are in a vaulted passageway which is dimly lit by little oil lamps placed either on the floor or in a few remaining sconces on the walls at shoulder height. In all it is dark and gloomy but you have little trouble seeing anything.

The corridor is bare, no objects or litter are on the floor. The ancient stones are worn by innumerable passages. Here under the ground it is cool in contrast to the hot Big Rubble air above.

In reply to Jim (msg # 3):

Valenstos cautiously advances along the corridor towards the door in the west wall. He keeps an eye out for a stick or anything flammable that can be used as a torch. When he reaches the door he listens at it for signs of life beyond before he attempts to open it.

(There's no door in the west end upper corridor it seems. Sigh. I'll assume you opened the only other door that is at the end of the corridor)

You hear nothing except you heartbeat. Cautiously opening the door you are confronted by another staircase going down.

Cellar Floor - Scorpion Hall.
(It's been a while so here's a recap of the situation)

In Earth Season you've decided to scout a ruin of which you'd heard of, one with the ominous name 'Scorpion Hall'. From the exterior it looks like a typical Old Pavis intra-city fortification and must have been built well before the Fall. It appears the top story is just a jumbled ruin that has collapsed with time but on penetrating past some scorpion-kin you've found the structure to be sound if in poor care.
You scouted the ground floor for a while but decided to ignore some areas, leaving them unexplored and penetrated lower into the cellars. Here the cool is very different to the hot Prax climate above and the rooms appear to be lit with a selection of small ceramic lamps. You surmise someone or something must come around regularly to check these lamps and refill them leading you to believe the cellars are well-inhabited.

Listening at the door you hear nothing, the door appears to be locked. It is a stout set of heavy bog cypress planks and axing through it would be loud and probably attract attention as well as taking some time.

Leaving the locked door for the time being Valenstos moves on to the door round the corner in the southern wall, listening at it carefully before trying it. Not hearing anything he checks to see if it too is locked.

Straining you ears you don't hear anything. The door is another heavy object and you hoist it open and peer through, noting that there's a short landing and then a set of flagstone steps goes down an arched tunnel. Oil lamps burn in niches in the walls, casting a dim light.

Grasping his spear firmly Valenstos pushes the door open and makes his way down the steps.

After a couple of steps Valenstos rethinks his options and decides that while it is cooler down here he needs to get back up top, maybe find somewhere safe to shelter for a while. He retreats back up the stairs before retracing his steps back along the corridor and up the first set of stairs.
