The computer gave a red blink, and didn't give Sam access to anything.  From the far back corner, the clones could hear the clank of battle droid feet.

"They're coming in the northeast entrance," Ink reported.  "Looks like two clankers," he continued as he fired.  Sam heard a virtual explosion, after which Ink announced "One down."

Granola crawled over the other computer station behind the one Sam was working on to get to a more advantageous position.  He blasted off two quick shots at the other battle droid.  "Both droids are taken care of," Granola informed his comrades.

OOC: Sam's turn.  And no, he can't take 10 or 20 because there are consequences for failing, as he found out.

Even though Sam's effort was more strenuous, the computer system had become more hostile to him with his failed attempt.  After trying to access it again, the simulation arena's lights came up and an announcement came over the speakers: "Simulation terminated.  Simulation terminated."

OOC: I'll let Sam react before the others do.

"What happened?" Questions asked.

"What do you think?"  Ink replied.  "We..."

"Hush, the both of you," Granola interrupted, keeping Ink from finishing his thought.  He had noticed Sam's reaction.  "Let's just exit," he suggested and he ushered the other two squadmates towards the door they had come in, leaving Sam free to follow or not.

The others exited the arena slightly ahead of Sam.  They walked around the corner just as Sam was exiting the door.  From the side of the foyer area stepped Jango Fett.  He didn't say anything, letting Sam decide what happened next.

"Very well," Jango conceded.  "I will hold you responsible..." he paused briefly.  "...for leading your squad through enemy territory, destroying seven battle droids and three enemy turrets, penetrating the enemy facility and denying the enemy access to their own computer system for at least one day."

Jango's stone-like face broke into a small smile.  "Sam, you forget that I'm used to reading the body language and facial expressions of soldiers wearing armor and helmets."  Jango put his hand on Sam's shoulder.  "Look soldier, not every mission is going to be 100% successful.  Don't get me wrong," he chuckled, letting his hand fall back to his side, "Your squad did not achieve all their objectives, so there are definitely things you can learn from this exercise."  He paused and let this sink in before continuing.  "You were neither offered a computer specialist nor did you ask for one, despite being asked to accomplish a difficult task with an enemy computer system.  I didn't expect you to do so; I wanted to see what would happen.  And even if you do ask for resources, you're not necessarily going to be granted them--but ask anyway.  Anything further, soldier?"  Jango finished, allowing Sam an opportunity to reply.

"Very well soldier."  Jango paused for only a beat before explaining, "I have a mission I need to attend to that will take me away from Kamino, but when I return I fully expect that your team will have passed your next simulation.  Is that understood?"

After Sam gave him a "Sir, yes sir." and a salute, Jango dismissed him.  As Sam headed off to catch up with his squad-mates, he noticed some of the other training sergeants--the Cuy'val Dar as they were called--approaching Jango.

Sam didn't have to travel far to find his squad.  "So?  What did you say?  How bad a hiding did you get?" Questions asked.  Granola elbowed Questions in the stomach.  "What?" Questions responded innocently, brushing Granola's arm down.

"You're right," Ink agreed.  "That wasn't bad."

For the next standard week, Sam drilled his squad mercilessly, with the help of Walon Vau, one of the Cuy'val Dar, as Jango was gone on his mission.  Soon it was time for the squad's next simulation.  "Are you ready?" Walon asked Sam.

Sam answered with a simple "Yes."

"Very well," Walon responded.  "You will be facing foes hunkered down behind a 'hill'.  Between you and the 'hill' the 'field' has been seeded with a variety of antipersonnel mines.  Your mission is to traverse the minefield while defeating your opponents.  Are there any questions?" Walon asked glaring them down.  Most of Sam's squad was so intimidated by the brutal Mandalorian that they said nothing, not even Questions.

"An excellent question squad leader," Walon said complimentarily.  "As a matter of fact, you may have a minesweeper droid for this mission."  Almost as if on cue, a droid with a large metallic drum covered in lengths of durable chain on its front hovered around the corner.  "That should be sufficient," Walon said, brooking any further negotiation for equipment.  "Get going."  And with that the doors to the arena opened.

The configuration was much different than when the squad had faced the Citadel.  Here there was a large open simulated plain with a long rolling hill taking up the horizontal wall on the opposite side of the room.  There was little cover in the form of some sparse simulated bushes.

OOC: How does Sam proceed?
