Kamino

It all started on Kamino.  Sam has lived there his whole life.  He was even born there, if you call being cloned in a tube being born.  But Sam didn't mind, he knew he was elite.  Specifically designed with more autonomy so that he could be an Advanced Recon Commando, or ARC Trooper.  He had been in training since he was two years old.  Or was it four?  Sam was never sure which age to use, as his aging was accelerated.  He did know that he was being trained to be elite, not just because of the title the Kaminoans said they were giving him, but also because the person training him was the person from whom he was cloned, Jango Fett!

Sam had three squad-mates and they'd already given each other nicknames.  His was Sam because Jango told him he was the most normal clone he'd ever encountered.  For some reason Jango also said "Because everybody needs a Sam."  The others were Granola, because he was good at tracking outdoors.  Then there was Ink, who had early on gotten himself a lot of tattoos, including one on his face.  Sam still wondered why the Kaminoans had allowed it, but the ARCs tended to get away with more than the other troops.  Finally there was Questions, who was thus named because whenever they were in a briefing, or even a training, he always asked too many.

Sam and his squad-mates were now twenty years old (or was it ten?).  The training was getting more and more intense.  Jango Fett had just gotten back from one of his trips, and he said it was time for their most rigorous test yet, the citadel.  Sam was now sitting in the ready room with his squad-mates...

OOC: Any words of encouragement, jokes to lighten the mood, etc?

"I'm totally ready," Ink said seriously.

"Let's do this!" Granola responded, excitedly nervous.

"Do you think we'll be ready for real combat after this?"  Questions asked.  "What kind of opponents do you think we'll face?"  Then, a little bit quieter and more to himself, "I wonder what's for lunch?"

Jango entered the ready room and the four clones snapped to attention as they had been trained to do.  "All right cadets.  Your going to have to fight your way to the Citadel.  Once there, you need to get to the center, to a pair of computer stations, retrieve data from the stations and get back out."

Before Questions could even ask any, the door from the ready room opened and Jango stepped aside.  As soon as the clones made it through the door, laserfire rained down upon them.  They ran to the nearest cover, a wall straight ahead of them.  On their way there, they noticed a tower-like structure: the Citadel.  Atop it was a blaster turret, which is what had fired at them .  They also were able to see two other blaster turrets , and two B-1 battle droids on the front balcony of the Citadel

"You know there's probably more battle droids out there," Ink noted.  The others looked to Sam, and Questions asked "So what's the plan boss?"

Ink and Granola moved out first, making for the closest cover.  Neither had an angle on either of the droids, but Ink could get a shot on the blaster turret that was at the top of the Citadel, just because of how high it was.  He must have been nervous, because his shot just missed.

The top blaster turret fired right back at Ink, but wasn't even close to hitting his cover, let alone him.

All seemed to be quiet from the other blaster turrets and the visible battle droids, so either they didn't have a shot, or the clones were acting faster than they were.

OOC: Sam's turn.  Note the updated map (only Ink and Granola moved).

As Sam moved to cover off to his right, before Questions even started to follow, Sam could see he was in a position to take a shot at the top turret.

"Don't take risks, but if anyone is in a position to return fire, do it!"  Sam bent around his cover and fired off a wild shot that easily missed.

"Moving," Questions announced as he started to come towards Sam.  However, he stopped at the column across from Sam , and fired at something.  Sam could hear clanking as Questions reported "Just took care of a battle droid that was lurking down here on the floor with us," Questions said.

"Yeah, there's one sneaking up on us too," Ink said, a slightly excited edge to his voice.    "But it took cover.  That's not going to help it though.  Moving to it now," he announced.  Granola followed with "Covering you, buddy."  Ink moved to the staggered columns across from his previous position, making sure to stay behind cover from the blaster turrets.  He fired two quick shots into the droid.  "Another one down!" Ink reported excitedly.  Sam could tell he felt redeemed from having missed the turret earlier.

Since the droid was taken care of, Granola took a shot at the top turret.  "I got it!" Granola informed the team.    Sam was now more free to move, but still needing to keep behind cover from the two battle droids on the balcony and the two remaining blaster turrets.

"Moving in," Sam said as he moved out and to the next barrier (down 3 and to the right 2).  He then leaned around the edge of the barrier to fire off another wild shot.

From his new position Sam had no clear line of sight to either of the blaster turrets nor to the two battle droids posted on the balcony of the Citadel.  But on his way to his new cover, he had seen another battle droid  down on the floor, and it was probably his being startled at the sudden appearance of this droid that had caused his shot to go wild.

The battle droid fired right back at Sam, but also missed, perhaps also surprised by Sam's appearance.  It then moved behind cover, just on the other side of the wall from Sam.

"We've got another droid on the floor," Sam informed his team.

"I'll try flanking him," Questions offered and then moved out.  He got a straight line shot on the droid and took it out.  "Do you think there are any more droids down here?"  Questions asked.

His only immediate answer were some potshots from the battle droids on the balcony.  By moving himself to an area where he could get a shot off at the droid on the floor, he had moved himself into an open area to which the droids on the balcony had a vantage point.  The droids had coordinated their shots, and hit Questions.  The bolts were only stinger bolts for the simulation, but they still hurt, as evidenced by Questions outcry.

Sam could tell by their breathing that Ink and Granola were concerned about Questions, but he and they all knew that from their position the best way to help was to continue eliminating threats.  They continued moving in; Ink couldn't get to a shooting position, but Granola was able to get two quick shots at one of the droids on the balcony.  The droid was hit and crumpled.

OOC: Sam's turn.

Sam hurry towards the cover closest to the citadel and up to the edge so he had a shot.    Then shouted to Questions.

Granola had thought he had sufficient cover, but one of the blaster turrets was able to detect him.  It shot at him, but he leaned closer against the wall and the shot went behind him.

Sam was in a similar situation, where the other blaster turret barely had line of sight to him.  This turret likewise missed.

"But why?" Questions asked as he took a shot at the remaining droid on the balcony, damaging the droid, before moving back behind cover as ordered.

Ink moved out to try and take out the blaster turret closest to him, but missed it.

Granola made a similar move, but to the other side, firing two quick shots into the turret and completely destroying it.

OOC: Sam's turn.  Note the updated map.

Sam's shot took out the last remaining blaster turret, leaving only one battle droid left up on the Citadel balcony.

Questions, remembering his instructions from Sam earlier, moved in closer, but forewent getting a shot on the droid to stay behind cover.

The droid could only get one of the clones in his sights and shot at Granola.  Fortunately, the droid missed.

Ink fired around his cover at the droid, hitting it in the middle of its chassis.  The droid crumpled.  All was quiet again.

"Do you think that's all of them?" Questions wondered aloud.

OOC: Note the updated map.

OOC: Sam could not see any more opponents.

"Moving to cover the entrance for you boss," Questions declared.

"Moving to cover the other entrance," Ink announced.  "Granola and I will enter there and meet you guys at the computers inside."

"Getting ready to head in," Granola agreed as he moved towards the entrance.

All three of the other clones maintained a crouched, ready to fire position as they progressed, just as Sam had warned.

OOC: Note updated map.
