With a soft puff the torch goes out. It glows slightly from the embers but quickly cools down.

"Well that's promising. I'll check the door." Arthua entered the room. He passed several benches until he stood in front of the door. He'll give a good minute to check for any visible traps before testing the door.

"So is it safe to go in now?" Orila rumbled from the back of the group...

As soon as Arthua entered the room dark shapes rose up from behind the tables.  Four large burly orcs appear from behind the turned over tables with javelins at the ready.

The closest orc reaches up and pulls the snuffed torch from the mounting and throws it into the oil pile but the embers have died down too far and the oil just snuffs out the embers. The orc's face turns from triumph to confusion.

The others let loose with their javelin's at Arthua. Two sail right on by but the third hits his leg causing a nasty wound.

"Orcs!" Arthua moved into the room quickly. He dodged the closest orc and circled to the second orc giving his companions room to enter the room. He stabbed at the second orc and missed.

When she has a chance to scoot into line with the door and see the back wall, Yry lifts her crystal ring and channels icy magic into it, a sharp shard of ice growing into being with sharp cracking and snapping noises. She fires it at the back of the room, its trail traced with icy white motes and a rush of cool air.

"Finally!" Orila roared, seemingly almost jubilant to be in combat once more. She strode forward to engage the nearest orc, swinging her massive maul in a sideways arc and hoping to squash the green-skinned beastie in between her weapon and the wall...

At the uproar from the orcs, Alyssa turns her attention back to the room. Thinking she sees a line thought to the back the halfling raised her bow and loosed the arrow wide.

"Arthua!" Glynnelis called out in concern when the orcs showed themselves. He sent an arrow speeding towards the creature who seemed the greatest threat to his friend.

Orc #1 moves up and takes a swing with his greataxe at Arthua. The orc scores a critical hit opening up a devestating wound on Arthua's chest and dropping the rogue with one hit.

Orila steps forward and smashes an orc with her maul. The orc is badly wounded but snarls in defiance towards the goliath.

Alyssa fires but the shot hits a table the orcs are using for cover.

Talia steps up behind Orila and stabs the wounded orc in the chest with her halbred finishing it off.


Yry considers her options.
OOC: Yry I'll let you modify your action. The orcs are out of position although you could shoot it at BW43 and hit 2 orcs (#4 and #1) with splash damage. I don't know if you would rather save it for a better cluster or not so you get to redo this action.


Glynnelis fires on the orc that downed his comrade and the orc roars at the wound.

Orc #4 moves up to attack Orila but slips and falls on the oil.

Shalimar hits Orc #1 with some vicious comments about his prowess in battle causing severe psychological damage to the orc.

The last orc looks at the party swarming through the doorway, then up at the lit torch next to him, then at the oil pile and seems to make up its mind. It grabs the lit torch and throws it at the oil. Flames erupt in the doorway as the fire spreads rapidly.

Orila, Talia and Orc #4 are engulfed in flames!
OOC: All three take 5 pts of damage from the fire. The fire will burn another round before consuming all the fuel. Anyone staying in or passing through an on fire square takes 5 pts of fire damage

Swearing under her breath, Alyssa nocks another arrow and lets loose at the same orc. To no better end.

Crying out in pain as the flames seared her flesh, Orila quickly moved out of the burning oil slick, kicking the table in front of her out of the way as she moved into and occupied the spot where the orc she'd hit with her maul had been. Adjusting her grip on the maul, she swung it at the orc beside her...

"Shit, shit, shit!" the copper-skinned elf cursed as Arthua went down and then was separated from the main party by a wall of flame. He launched a bolt of white light that, in his panic, flew wide of any target. Cursing again, he spoke a powerful word of old elvish to bring the rogue back to his feet.

Arthua is down but not out.

The orc swings at an on-fire Orila but fails to connect thank to the disadvantage he had earlier.

Orila hopped over the upturned table and smashes the orc on the head, cracking its skull and dropping it to the ground.

Alyssa fires but through the fire and the flame is unable to connect.

Talia moves to trap the orc in the inferno, stabbing with her halbred to keep it in the middle of the fire.

Yry uses her freezing magic to blast the farthest orc.

Gylnnelis uses his healing words to bring Arhtua back to his feet.

The orc in the back moves up to attack Orila but trips over the table now icy because of Yry's magic and the attack is ruined.

Shalimar unleashes more vicious mockery of the orc on fire.

The orc tries to flee the fiery oil but Talia stabs him in the back and his body falls down and begins to burn. The smell is terrible.

Alyssa's oath is louder this time as she raises her bow again. Taking in the chaotic scene the halfling loosed her arrow into the fray once more. This time the arrow connected with the orc.

Breathing a small sigh of relief at the sight of several orcs falling with Arthua regained his feet, Glynnelis loosed an arrow at the last remaining orc.

Orila viciously swung her maul at the last orc in a savage attack. She was hurt, angry and the orcs had just tried to cook her alive... probably not the best way to get on a goliath's good side.

The fire finally burned through the rest of the oil on the ground leaving the room thick with smoke obscuring sight and making combat difficult to even tell friend from foe.
OOC: Environmental, everyone is at a disadvantage due to the smoke

Arthua stabs into the smokey surroundings but can't find orc flesh with the points of his blades.

Even through the smoke Alyssa lands a solid shot and Orila steps up and finishes the strike smashing the Orc's skull with her maul. The orc drops and the party is given a moments respite to cough and choke on the smokey room.

Arthua coughed several times. He choked, "It's me. It's me. I'm coming through. I need some air." He moved around the smoke until he stumbled to the hallway. There he slumped on the ground.

Yry helps Arthua out of the smoke, providing a gentle, leading hand out should he not be able to see clearly. "Let's get down the hall a bit, don't want anyone suffocating from smoke."

Glynnelis nodded in agreement with the sorcerer and held forth his holy symbol. A sudden, strong breeze emanated from the wooden carving, dispersing the smoke.

Glynnelis' cantrip helps disperse the smoke allowing the party to better assess the carnage. With orcs are all dead and a quick search turns up a few coins here and there. Summing it all together is a total of about 10gp across the four guards between coins and other small baubles or shiny rocks.

The door to the west (D) is currently closed. There are also the muddy watery passages that were unexplored (B), (C), as well as the shelf across the large pool near the entrance (A).

"Let's see what's behind that door," Orila said, pointing to the door across the room (D) "These orcs looked like they were guarding something..."
