Re: [Chapter 1.02] Into the Forest Rend

Orila tests the door...and finds that it too is barred from the other side just like the last one.

She hefts her maul and prepares to break it down... the last one... but pauses first and turns back to her companions. "Shall I?" She asks...

Coming into the room, under the departing smoke, Alyssa gave a non committal shrug to Orila's question. In all honesty though, the halfling is liking the dry passages far more than the submerged ones.

Re: [Chapter 1.02] Into the Forest Rend

thump...thump...thump

The sound of Orila's hammering echoes through the room and down the hall.

thump...thump...thump

This door like the one before has been weakened by the ever present moisture in this dungeon.

thump...crack...crack...krrr-aack

Whatever was barring the door on the other side splinters and the door opens wide revealing a large room, about 35'x25'. From what they can tell the room is empty except for four torches burning low on along the walls but there is a 4' wall immediately across from the door. It forms a barricade of sorts funneling people who enter down and around.

The floor at the doorway has some kind of dark liquid smeared across the ground all the way along the half-wall.

"We need to be very careful." Arthua said from the back. His most recent experience in dashing into the room was fresh on his mind and wounds.

"Someone grab a torch from the room we just cleared and let's set this trap off before any of us step in and get burned again," Orila said, recognizing the set up and the dark liquid as the fire trap the orcs used in the previous room.

"Good idea." Glynnelis went back for a torch and, after making sure everyone stood well back, tossed it into the dark liquid. Once the oil - or whatever it was - seemed to have burned off, he summoned a gust of wind to extinguish the flames.

Gylnnellis drops the torch into the smear...and nothing much happens. Whatever is covering the floor chars and blackens but it doesn't ignite and spread like lantern oil did before.

Yry puts a gentle hand on Arthua's shoulder and shakes her head, grinning.

"Try picking the torch up? It might be adhesive rather than flammable?"

The torch lifts up easily enough. The substance gets on the side of the torch as he picks it up.

Re: [Chapter 1.02] Into the Forest Rend

Orila walked over to one of the tables the orcs had been using for barriers and picked it up, carrying it to the new doorway. She flipped it upside down and tossed it through the doorway and over the greasy, slippery spot. "There," she rumbled, sounding pleased with her inventiveness. "Now we won't slip."

OOC: DM, let me know if any rolls or whatnot are required for this course of action.

Alyssa chuckles to herself at the goliath's direct approach to any problem the group has encountered.

Looking through the legs of her companions once again, the halfling speaks up, "That half-wall would be a good place for another ambush, don't you think. Toss the torch over it and see what pops up."

The table isn't terribly heavy (for a goliath) and Orila drops it into place where it makes a satisfactory squish sound.

Re: [Chapter 1.02] Into the Forest Rend

Orila went back and grabbed another table (looking first for one that maybe broken in half?) and picked it up, holding it like a large tower shield. "Come on," she said to her companions, and  walked over toward and then into the next room, making sure to keep her footing safely on the makeshift bridge she'd made...

OOC: using improvised tower shield and entering room, walking on table-bridge over the greasy spot.

Yry tickles Alyssa's shoulders, "Orila is so strong, right? I wonder if she or Talia is stronger. They're both really strong." she quietly asks her long-time friend before moving to follow after the barrier that is Orila wielding a table.

Glynnelis raised his eyeborws in admiration of the ease with which the goliath moved the heavy table. When everyone was clear, he tossed the torch behind the barrier and waited for a reaction.

To the surprise of nobody as soon as the party starts walking along the grease orcs spring up from the other side of the low wall in their attempt at an ambush. They even look super smug only to look surprised when they don't see adventurers slipping and sliding but instead primed and ready for them.

Still using her improvised tower shield, Orila gave a battle cry and rushed the orcs, attempting to push them back with the table-shield and make room for her companions to fully enter the room and not be held up at the choke-point...

OOC: DM, I think in 3.5 that would be a Bull-Rush, but I have no idea what that action is in 5e, nor what rolls are required... so please feel free to roll whatever is needed. Thanks!
