Game Start Facts: We will be starting off in Tel Aviv, Israel. I am fine with character backstories from anywhere in the world. Magic allows for easy transportation after all. Long as you have a reason to be in Israel in 1987. Don't expect this game to be strictly historical. I have no idea of the 1980s make up of Traditions in Israel, so we are creating this wholecloth.

The story so far: The Technocracy is up to its old tricks, in particular the NWO in the area is ramping up its targeting of Reality Deviants more than usual. While they use force, they also maneuver with politics, populist views, and etc. In short, they are up to their old Mind tricks.
With this recent pressure, the local Traditions have started to gather their strengths and experienced mages to help deal with the situation or just survive. The game will start with you all being called together.

Uncertain things: The issue of mobile vs stationary backgrounds has come up. I have had the thought of having something large but mobile be available. But these might be grandiose. Tell me what you guys think.
1) Part of why i picked Tel Aviv aside from being a very large and important city in Israel is its port status. Many people come and go frequently, and thus ships. And having a private/Tradition backed port facility/warehouse could provide easy access to the world at large and still a homebase to work out of.

2) related but doesn't have to be tied to the first idea: is a private submarine. this is a reality at least today in the middle east with all the oil money flowing around. this would most likely be a Hermetically or Etherite owned vessel.

3) a merchant ship of a certain size range could provide what the group needs.

My initial leanings are to the top option, cause I want you all to have the freedom to move around on land and sea (of course Umbra as well).

Well, my original idea was to combine my points into an ethership?  I am pretty sure that they can be ocean going too?

We could have a small ethership in the larger ship's hold.

With 5 if we all just tossed in a dot we could have it as a mobile chantry. My character can definitely have mortal connections at various parts if that would be helpful.

the system I found for making those ships a decent one is about 19 background points.

That is a lot, then. Maybe we work on that IC.

I will reveal some things from private message character creations, but won't say which characters are involved, cause i am not sure if they want this revealed yet for story reasons.

1) one of the characters is planning on having a magical minisub. relevant material: bigger on inside, and thus could transport at least some of the party in a pinch. and some umbral abilities.

2) a different character is planning on owning a full on boat privately with mundane npc crew and the like, but is planning on having it magical (personally enchanted). the abilities and limits of this magical boat is still being discussed.

the point of all this is that i think we got boats and immediate aquatic transportation needs settled for the moment. if the above players want to know more about each project and/or is willing for me to reveal more, they need to tell me here or in PMs. you know who you are.


anyway, if we still want a full on ethership a la etherite style (or maybe hermetic, but this is highly unusual), we can but it would require a lot of dots as PCO.Spvnky pointed out. players are welcome to collaborate on this if they wish or i can have the local etherites (or etherite allies further afield if some backstories support it) provide one on loan at certain times. i would explain part of this as the local traditions are under added pressure right now and are being forced to work together. also Tel Aviv is known for its universities a bit, and well Israel, rightly or wrongly, perceives a lot of enemies at its doorstep 24/7, sometimes literally miles away. they are always on the look out for the next big military and security advantage. this can provide a lot of cover for technomancer fronts, both technocratic and traditional. perfect for some practical minded etherites to get some work done.
