Epilogue

This chapter of your adventuring life is drawing to a close - how does it end?  Are there more that follow?

In your future journeys, you encounter many attempted explanations for the Lunar Schism.  What stands out to you?  Does anyone ever get close to the truth?

Istvan tried to explain to some church elders about what happened to the moon...

...They didn't believe him. When he was accused of making things up to get attention, he backed off of his story, and kept what he knew to himself.

The three stories he heard in his future journeys to explain the moon were:

1. The gods battled amongst themselves, and Noric talked the Sun into defeating Matyokol for him. I mean, there's elements of truth in it? Sort of?

2. The Order of the Weavers attempted to change the fate of someone whose death would mean doom for all, and whose salvation would be paid back by them someday saving everyone. They were successful, but the moon was damaged by their tampering.

3. The moon was an egg, and a void-black baby bird hatched out of it and flew off. Maybe someday it will return as an adult and lay a new moon. Not 100% wrong...?

Re: Epilogue

It was not in Lucius's nature to lie, even without an oath. He returns to the vampire's castle, meeting with a few delegates from the Order of the Sun who have come in response to his letter - a lease on fair terms was negotiated and agreed on.

Together with them, he ventures back to the Holy City of Haspia where his Order's headquarters are situated.

Lucius makes his report, further corroborated by his brothers who met the castle's denizens and the former slaves. To his shock, he is immediately called in by the Grandmaster of the Order, and questioned intensively.

In the end, the Order stays tight-lipped on the events, not getting involved in the religious tumult following the Lunar Schism.

Lucius is quite confused by the secrecy, his pride hurt a little - but soon forgets all about it as he commits himself to the new task - rooting out a necromantic cult.  Rumour circulates in the Order that proper protocol was skipped, as there were many veteran paladins available for this dangerous task.

Vittorio stayed in the Order to undergo formal training. While his skill with the sword was lacking, he was nonetheless valued as an envoy and peacemaker.

As for Lucius's sword, left behind in the other realm... A new hero rises on the frontier, defending the common folk against the hordes of orcish invaders. Her blade, called the Sunsword, is an endless well of light and warmth.

Lucius naturally kept the secrecy regarding the Lunar Schism, though he couldn't help but chuckle every time he heard another far-fetched story. His favorite explanation was that the moon got accidentally blown up by a dwarven mining expedition, though the stories fail to explain how it got there in the first place.

Re: Epilogue

After helping all of the freed slaves return to their home and tying up any related loose ends with the slave trade network that had caused the problems in the first place, Lazarus continued adventuring for a while. He helped to slay the bog beast of the Delta Fens, assisted in rescuing the Midnight Princess after she was swapped with a doppelganger, and even had a hand in overthrowing the crystal tyrant of the Endless Erg.

Over the years he occasionally returned to the enormous Dawncap to make sure it was still thriving. As of his retirement, it still stood strong. It seemed like every visit he heard yet another rumor about how the moon had been broken. Like "the moon god had its heart broken, causing the moon itself to break," or "it got too cold, causing it to shatter." His favorite was "a wizard meddled where he shouldn't have," because it was essentially true.

When Lazarus reached retirement age, he had acquired more than one additional new magically altered limb due to further botched rituals. His left leg now tended to root itself in place if he stood still for too long, and his right ear had a distinctive bat-like appearance. Among other less obvious transformations. When he finally settled down and built himself a permanent magical sanctum, Lazarus had still not made it widely known that he had a hand in the moon's alteration. He saved that for his secret tome where he kept all of his best information. He planned on donating copies of it to magical libraries across the land after he passed on to the afterlife. He figured he would be less likely to be brought up on any sort of legal charges that way. Plus, it would keep people wondering if he was telling the truth at all, which he thought was amusing.

All in all, Lazarus had led a fulfilling life of adventure, excitement, and a healthy helping of magical mischief.
