Best of luck with that. The last thing you need is financial stress while you are working on healing.

The sheer number of people I have encountered on RPOL that have medical bills to deal with just blows me away.

You are not kidding, RPoL has a very high percentage of people with health issues. Scary actually.

Back to Work

Yes, the commute is a good one (as is the fact that I don't have to waste time getting "office ready" in terms of attire, and I don't have to pre-prepare lunch, which is another time-saver.  Plus not being next to the annoying person at the next desk over at the office.  (No, seriously--we had window side seats, but she'd rather have the shades drawn to block all light *all day* than make any adjustment to the position of her monitors or ask someone who didn't have a window seat if they wanted to trade; *and* whenever she would get stressed she'd start muttering loud enough for me to hear "I want to just kill myself." "I'm just going to kill myself." "I'm going to open the window and jump out." ... granted the windows didn't actually open, as we were on the fifth floor, but when you hear that sort of crap multiple times an hour (probably 30+ times on a daily basis!) you're hard pressed not to say "Want I should help open that window?"  Note that I don't think she's at all serious, it's just some verbal tic about expressing her stress/aggravation.)

I don't know if the health problems prevalence is related to general age of users.  I'm hesitant to say that because prior to the cancer, I was a ridiculously healthy person (the only thing I take is a calcium supplement, which caused the nurse for the pre-procedure visit considerable consternation).

Glad to hear you are returning to work. I feel your pain but in my case, I was in an accident at work and am in recovery from the event.

Yes, there are an alarming amount of people on RPOL with health issues but I think that the format appeals to shut-ins and those with poor health as opposed to a tabletop setting or switching to a newer edition.

Back to Work

Will be going on a road trip tomorrow.  Oldest son and his wife bought a condo up in Chicago, so I'm going up there for his new place party.  High probability that I'll end up crashing the night at my daughter's place (she's an hour and a half away from me, on the route to oldest son's place which is another 3 or so hours from her place).

Hola, everyone. I am pleased to be joining you via adopting Hewney. I'll be working on reading up on the backstory, to hopefully not give him too hugh of a personality shift.

I grew up playing AD&D, and while I play some 5e now, the AD&D editions remain my preferred versions of the game. It's just hard to find folks not scared off by THAC0. :)

October

Had my first 3-month post op visit.  Everything looked good, and I'm all clear.  Just have to go back again in three months (which will be the routine for two years before it stretches to 6 months).  Will be getting XP lines up soon.

All kinds of stuff going on lately ... and it seems like it's all happening at once.  I may have some spotty access next week, as the electrician will be re-wiring my house.  Then there's the new roof, but that shouldn't cause the same issues (electrician is also going to be changing out the box leading into the house to bring it up to modern amps ... but no power means no internet).

Holidays

I will be having spotty access over the next week .. I'm going up to my parents' shortly, will be up there through Thanksgiving.  I'll be able to post a bit, but major developments will have to wait for my return because the info is all on my desktop/too much to carry and risk accidentally leaving behind.

That's what flash drives or portable hard drives are for -- and they can double as back ups.

I have my gaming stuff on my laptop, on a flash drive, and on a portable HD. The trick is remembering to keep all three concurrent, although usually my portable HD is my master copy.

Of course, leaving it at home lets you put emphasis on family for the holiday. Sometimes that's a good thing to do. YMMV, of course! ;)

Ah--when I say desktop, I mean not just the desktop computer (which has a fair bit), but also the physical desk with the binder full of stuff, a couple physical books, and such.

Anyway, saw oldest son and his wife today, they left around 5 to go back to their place, daughter should be arriving here (my parents') tomorrow, middle and youngest on Thursday ... on to the great baking of pies, as I am the official Thanksgiving pie baker (pumpkin, pecan, apple, cherry, and custard.
