Explorers:  Arn's Watch

Once Annya and Zaryk moved away from the room where the chest had been, and on out of the cavern, Arn found himself alone in the dark and quiet of the caves--to watch, explore a little more, or simply find a safe place to wait for the others' return.

Arn will move outside of the cave and attempt to find a comfortable place to hide and rest where he can still keep an eye out on the cave entrance.

Explorers:  Arn's Watch

Moving outside the caves themselves, Arn found that there was plenty of growth which would conceal him from observation, but that the ground was not particularly comfortable, with a number of small rocks which had hardly been noticed when merely walking across the way but which became all too readily apparent when trying to find a comfortable place to rest for possibly the night.

Arn will use whatever bedroll he uses for resting at night or perhaps his cloak if he has none. He will do his best to make things as comfortable as possible;

Explorers:  Arn's Watch

As dark came upon the area, Arn heard the rustle of wings--something leaving the cave.  Straining to see in the starlight, he could see that the creatures emerging were small, to be sure, but had a peculiar shape, and a moment later it seemed that these flying beasts might be directing their attention upon Arn.

Explorers:  Arn's Watch

Arn froze as the winged creatures seemed to fly towards him. He hoped they were only bats. Ordinary bats were relatively harmless. Perhaps, too, he was wrong and they were not flying at him. Wishful thinking. He should have gone back with the others. He was going to die out here alone. The others would find his dead body the next day. At least he could count on them to give him a decent burial, he said to himself spitefully. Not that they knew who he really was. He watches as they approach, preparing to take action if staying still doesn't seem to work.

OOC:
If the winged creatures approach 10' from him, he will crouch down hoping the fly past him overhead. Once they reach 5' or descend to his lower level, he will draw his sword and slash at them if they attack.

Unfortunately, it seemed that simply staying still did not override the scent, and two of the creatures broke from the group to swoop into an attack against Arn.

Arn quickly draws his sword when one of the winged creatures headed towards him gets within range, he slashes at it with his sword.

OOC:
Should I roll to hit and damage? What about initiative? Should I roll that and, if so, what do I roll and does my reaction adjustment apply?

Roll initiative (d10)
To hit (d20)
damage (by weapon .. my mouse is being stupid, so I'm really struggling with trying to have multiple tabs right now .. I think it's the battery, but I can't master the pad at the bottom of the laptop for anything other than very basic up and down scrolling :P)

Reaction adj/strength (if that applies .. I can't cross into the character sheet without messing this up), go ahead and factor into the rolls.

Arn clumsily swings at the winged thing, doing his best to not get entangled with a tree branch.

One of the winged things dove in, although Arn was able to easily avoid the dive while his own attempt to stave off--or kill--the creatures met only air, and then the second made a swooping attack that also failed to connect with Arn's flesh thanks to the cover he had.  Fortunately, it seemed that the rest of the flock had flown further afield in search of prey; unfortunately, the proximity allowed Arn to discern more details--the winged menace appeared to be something like a demented crossbreed of a large bat and an oversized mosquito.

Arn will retreat into any nearby underbrush, hoping it will deter or at least hinder their flying. He will continue to attack should they follow and as they come into range.

OOC:
12:14, Today: Arn rolled 11 using 1d20.  to hit.

With the brush above, Arn seemed to be able to keep from allowing either of the flying creatures to bite him.  However, unfortunately, the brush also seemed to keep Arn from being able to strike either of the flying creatures.

Seeming frustrated--if such an emotion were to come to such creatures--at the inability to gain a quick and easy meal, the two flew toward where the rest of the flock had gone.  Arn could hope that they would find easier prey.

Arn took several deep breaths, shaking for a bit. He sheaths his sword. He begins another survey and does his best to find a place with as much underbrush as possible, trying to cocoon himself in cover.

Eventually, Arn was able to get himself under enough cover that he did not expect a renewed attack from the winged things.  The ground, however, was not particularly comfortable with almost imperceptible stones until he laid upon them, and the flying, biting insects seemed to be able to find him easily enough.  It was, to be sure, a very uncomfortable night and the sleep rather restless.
