Chapter 4 - The thing about gnomes
Several days after the party delivers the small brass bed its owner, the snobbish nobleman Nerius Bootlum, and are paid the promised reward for it and Relgore Himtooth the bandit's head, Master Bootlum comes to the church of Pelor in search of Bull and Ox.

"Gentlemen, you have proven yourselves both trustworthy and reliable by the success of your last mission for me. So, I would very much appreciate your assistance if you and your men would help me to complete the delivery of the bed you recovered to the gnomish community it was destined for before that brute Relgore so rudely interrupted my previous journey.

"I was about half way to that destination before the bandits attacked. Those gnomes live further east in the Abbor-Alz, about four days travel from here along that road. I realise now that there are other bandits still in that area, so I would be willing to pay your group at a rate of 200 gold per day. Four days there, a couple of days in the gnomish village and four days for the return journey would amount to 2,000 gold for your services, if there are no delays to increase that fee further. Oh, of course, I should point out that I will be travelling with you, so your services would include ensuring my safety too."

He smiles at you after presenting that offer, obviously confident of your answer.

Chapter 4 - The thing about gnomes
The party would be together at the temple during that time, using the churches workshop to work through their enchanting projects. After a little discussion between themselves Ricky will address the noble. "Good sir, it would be our privilege to escort you and your goods to the Gnomish community. We will be indisposed for a further three days, if agreeable to you we can depart from your estate in four days time."

If acceptable to the noble the party, their two wagons and four mercenaries will be at the nobles estate an hour or so after dawn, fully provisioned for ten days with space in one wagon for the cargo and a cushioned bench in the other for the noble.

Nerius Bootlum considers Ricky's words for a moment before nodding.

"Yes, that will be quite satisfactory. Make it two hours after dawn, though. I am not in such a great rush that I would forego a decent breakfast before embarking on this journey."

With that agreed he nods slightly to you all then turns and walks out of the church.

The party are going to purchase some new tools and Banded mail for the mercenaries, they will make sure to arrive exactly two hours after dawn as no one knows the exact moment dawn happens like a Pelorite :)

Chapter 4 - The thing about gnomes
The party arrives at Nerius's home precisely on time three days later and only have to wait about a quarter of an hour before Nerius is finally ready to join them. Naturally, he needed to change into suitable travelling clothes after breakfast. The small brass bed is loaded sideways into the first wagon and Nerius decides that he will be most comfortable sitting on it, in the middle of the first wagon with the benefit of shade from the wagon's cover. His travelling trunk is loaded into the second wagon and he graciously allows those riding in the back of the second wagon to sit on it, if they wish.

The first two days of travel and nights camping are tedious (mainly because of the nobleman's presence) but uneventful. Late on the third day, a couple of hours after you passed the spot where the hobgoblins and goblins attacked your campsite on your previous trip, the road winds between one pair of rocky outcrops and a second pair of rocky outcrops comes into view. Nerius gasps then laughs nervously.

"That's the spot where Relgore ambushed me before! Thank the gods he is no longer alive to threaten us again!"

OOC: Main Game Map updated. Let me know if you want to shift anyone around in the wagons for this journey Nerius (N) and those in the back of the wagons are concealed by the hooped canvas covers of the wagon but they have limited vision from inside. (Those in the back can only see straight ahead down the road and a wider field of view out the back of the wagons).

Ricky will nod to the noble. "Sadly when one group of bandits are removed often another will take its place. Hopefully you won't need to see our advanced training and armaments in action, however if it comes to that we won't disappoint."

As this is an excellent place for an ambush Luc will send his raven ahead to scout out the area.

Chapter 4 - The thing about gnomes
The raven flies forward about 30 feet above the ground and following the road until it reaches the next pair of rocky outcrops. Then it changes direction quite sharply and heads northwards before swinging round in a wide loop to fly back to the wagons.

OOC: The raven was at Z8 on the map when he suddenly swung north. You can have one round of actions before the raven arrives back at the wagon.

Reacting to the sense of alarm Luc will call "Hold! Somethings awry." Casting False Life he will hop down off the wagon into C19. Bull and Ox will equip their maces and shields an will each cast Shield of Faith. Drawing his crossbow Ricky will call to Elysium and with the 2nd tier of monster summoning shall call forth a pair of celestial dogs into K19 and K20. As the spots of light condense a ferocious pair of Poodles materialize, ready to charge.

Chapter 4 - The thing about gnomes
Round 1:
As Luc hops down from the wagon the raven returns, and speaks! Its voice is raspy but intelligible to all in the wagons.

"Men! Many men! Hiding. In rocks."

Then Ricky's summoned poodles appear on the road ahead of the front wagon.

So far there is no sign of movement from the rocks ahead.

OOC: Main game map updated.
Ricky's celestial dogs will remain for 4 more rounds.
Bull and Ox shield of faith for 39 more rounds.

Bull and Ox will hop down off the wagon, each asking the Mercs to watch the wagons while they go and investigate and will move to D16 and E16. Ricky will calls out "Let loose ye dogs of war! Hunt through those rocks, leave none who hide there alive! Show mercy only if they reveal and surrender themselves! Kill, KILL!"
