Re: OOC

Boy, I really setup a great snag here somehow, lol.

Anyhow, listen, I'm extremely flexible.  That's why I enjoy this format, it allows me to work with and around the players.  I can tailor things any which way is necessary.  I can most certainly run as leader if you'd prefer.  I can even introduce another character to act as such, given Ben is somewhat more a reluctant individual.  Remember, I'm still getting a feel for what style of play works best for you guys.  Everyone has there own tastes so it's going to take me a minute to get it right.  Anyhow, if you just wish to move forward with an action and deal with elections in here, that's cool too.

Re: OOC

I would ask that you either introduce a strong leader who will do all the heavy lifting for us - removing from us the logistical aspects while taking in our input - or throw us in the water without a flotation device and force us to develop our own structure ourselves. I would prefer one of those extremes to any half-measures. Getting a random group of PCs to come to agreement is nearly impossible and tedious to play out, so we do need that leader to make the final call.

I have no interest in a temporary "training wheels" leader. If the leader leaves, I'd like it to be because we failed to protect them or because we chose to depose them. Either way, our agency, rather than plot contrivance "tutorial level."

In reply to Martin Roux (msg # 112):

I (the player) have been around for ages and GM a game here that has been running for yours. I do have periods I am out of internet, but I do come back. Natasha, however, would be a reluctant leader. But I kind of agree with Martins' take on Darwinism...bring on the shit and let nature sort itself out. Some will likely sink, hopefully some will swim. Worst case, we roll up a few new characters...

Re: OOC

Martin is fine with the outcome of the vote, but I am not, for all the reasons mentioned above... unless the premise is that we have a weak and ineffectual leader who we must eventually have the stones to depose and replace.

If you guys are willing to play through that - no copping out, no letting him being uncharacteristically decisive for one training-wheels mission and then deciding he can't handle it - then I'm willing to play through it.

But after that - do you guys want one of us calling the shots, or do we want an authoritarian NPC to show up and tell us what to do?

Re: OOC

Momentum is a good thing in my book, even under an NPC. In the story telling sense I think it could be nice to "sink the hook" first, get some time with our characters, develop relationships and personalities, find out who's invested and then come back to it. The alternative all too often is stagnation and the end of the game.

A PC leader would be preferred, and I'd be willing to do that if the wind blew that way IC. Kick seemed disinterested, Patricia offered an alternative and Dean jumped on that in an effort to move things forward as a team.

We can get there, it doesn't have to be right now and it doesn't have to be contrived. Ben threw this thing together, took the risk, I figure it won't hurt us to have him around for a little bit until we get our feet.

Re: OOC

Except for the fact that the GM has been very clear in that he expects us to take lead on this, both as Ben and ooc. That's my concern.

Re: OOC

Yeah, I saw that post. But Ben ain't the NPC to do it.

And there's the muddled metagame reasons why people are choosing Ben to be leader - because he's an NPC, despite clearly broadcasting that he's not suited to leadership roles.

This really annoys me, so I'm going to take the weekend off and avoid the conversation for awhile.

It is not permanent...just a step in the way. Ben might not even survive...perhaps it will be investigating his disappearance...

Re: OOC

I have very little invested in this decision OOC. So long as I'm not forced to make my character make a choice she wouldn't make; I don't really care. So I haven't said half of what I've thought and I admit I've started putting off checking here because of all the borderline OOC arguing. The game itself I've really been enjoying and when we were writing more IC than OOC I kept a constant eye on my sticky list.

But Patricia's reasons for choosing Ben were 100% IC reasons, no meta game around it. My OOC opinion is getting so fixated on getting a leader has delayed things more than just finishing talking through the plan.

Whenever you're set simply let me know.  I like to give people the room to RP but it can eat up time if people just want things to get rolling.

Re: OOC

Sorry everyone, I’ve kept meaning to bow out of my games. I won’t go into detail, but there is a family issue and I don’t expect things to resolve quickly and I just do not have the mental capacity right now. Please do whatever you need to write my characters out, I’m sorry for the trouble.

Ok, I guess we just lost another.  Are we still good with the numbers or do we need to do a pledge drive, lol?
