Telos IV: The Beginning

"I'm glad we're in agreement," Lor said cheerfully.  He grabbed the edge of his cape and swished it back towards the direction he had been walking as he started moving again.  He said over his shoulder, "That master business and being required to follow my instructions is going to wear thin quickly though.  That is something we'll have to work out later.  For now, let's go meet my granddaughter."

Lor took only a few more steps before stepping to a docking bay door, entering a code on the corresponding locking mechanism and then entering the docking bay proper.  Inside sat a small orb-shaped ship, spherical except on the bottom, where it had a flat landing pad.  "This is our ship's landing sphere, the Oculus," Lor explained.  "Elna is up on the main ship, a SkyBlind reconnaissance starship we call the Wayworn."  Lor paused only for a moment before asking "Would you like to fly the Oculus up to the Wayworn, or shall I?"

Telos IV: The Beginning

Lor chuckled.  "It's just a simple flight to orbit, but if you are uncomfortable doing it, I am a capable pilot."  It didn't take long to get off the ground.  The old gentleman did not speak much more on the way up, except when they got within view of their destination.  "There she is." Lor pointed out the viewscreen.  "The Wayworn.  She's not much to look at," Lor admitted--it was after all just a sphere with a glaringly empty hole, undoubtedly where the Oculus docked .  "But it works for our purposes.  It uses both sensor jammers and visually cloaking optical shields to conceal itself so we can stay concealed while gathering information over a planet, to avoid hostile reactions from unknown lifeforms or primitive cultures," Lor explained.  As they approached the larger ship, Lor reoriented the Oculus so that it was facing away from the Wayworn and then docked backwards.

As the pair exited the landing sphere, a young Human girl was waiting for them in the hallway, leaning casually against a bulkhead.  She had long dark hair and typical scouting attire, except for the tank top she wore, her scout jacket or cloak probably shed because she was inside .  "Well, it looks like it'll make a decent bodyguard," the girl said critically.

Lor gave a small sigh and then made introductions.  "HK-13 this is my granddaughter, Elna Echols.  Elna, this is HK-13."

"Hmph," was all she could manage before she noticed HK's weapon.  "Grandpa, a concussion rifle, really?"

"It wasn't my choice it was his," Lor said placatingly.  When Elna gave him a skeptical look, Lor added, "You can ask him yourself."

Elna turned to HK-13.  "Did you really pick that on your own?" she asked.  "Or did my grandfather influence your decision because of his silly beliefs?"

"I see," Elna conceded.  "And before you made your choice, did my grandfather tell you that most of the time we will be going to planets where the possibility of the natives being hostile is high?"

"Not our first destination," Lor chimed in.

"You are correct, grandpa, Dantooine does not have hostile natives.  They just have aggressive wildlife that will gore you or shred you as soon as look at you."  Elna turned back to HK-13.  "Did he mention any of that before you made your choice?"

Elna sighed.  "Leave it to you, grandpa, to find the only assassin droid who wants to use non-lethal force."  With one arm across her stomach, she lifted her other hand up in resignation.  "So what next?"

"Well, first we should probably see what our new friend knows about current relations," Lor answered.  He turned towards HK-13 and asked  "What do you know about the current state of the Jedi?"

HK-13's memory drives whir.  The last entry he had was that the Jedi were all hunted down and killed during the early days of the Empire.

"You're not far off," Elna replied.

Lor gave her a sidelong glance, but then continued.  "Your data is only slightly inaccurate.  There is one Jedi left.  One survivor.  Luke Skywalker, the son of a great hero from the Clone Wars."

"And the biggest monster since the Clone Wars," Elna chimed in.  "Darth Vader.  I bet that's in your data files," she said directly to HK-13.

"And now that Darth Vader and the Empire are defeated and destroyed," Lor pressed on trying to dismiss Elna's comment, "Luke is trying to rebuild the Jedi Order.  But to do that, he needs more information.  He's never trained a Jedi before and he doesn't know much about them except for his own experience because the Empire destroyed almost all data about the Jedi."  Lor paused only briefly, seeing if Elna would interrupt again before proceeding.  "That's where we come in.  We're going to help him find as much information about the Jedi as we can.  Luke and I have both heard rumors of a Jedi Enclave that was built on Dantooine millenia ago.  Our plan is to investigate the ruins and recover any Jedi artifacts we can."

It was now that Elna chose to interrupt.  "Of course, we don't know exactly where the ruins are, so we're just going to set down where ever there's room for the Oculus and roam around the Dantooine plains until we find it," she said as sarcastically as she could.

Lor turned from glaring at her back to HK-13.  "Any questions?" he asked cheerfully, trying to dispel his granddaughter's gloomy tone.

"Excellent.  Then let's get going," Lor concluded and he headed off to the cockpit.  Elna just sighed and then followed along.    After all of you were in the cockpit, with Lor in the pilot's seat, he asked "HK-13, would you please plot us a course to Dantooine?"

"Thank you, that was excellent navigation." Lor said, pulling the hyperdrive lever.  As the stars streaked away into a swirling cloud, Lor announced, "Now I think I will go take a rest.  Feel free to power down HK-13.  The Wayworn is not a fast ship and it looks like it will take a little less than two days to get there."

OOC: Feel free to do whatever you want for the next several hours while Lor rests.  If you don't want to do anything, just have HK-13 power down.

HK-13 could overhear the conversation that the other two were having.

"I still think we should land as close as we can to where we think the ruins are," Lor implored.

"But what if we're wrong about where the ruins are?  I would rather land in close proximity to a settlement, in case we need to resupply." Elna countered.

"And I would agree with you except for two things.  One, we should be able to bring enough supplies with us on the Oculus, so that if we need to resupply we can do so from there.  Second, Dantooine is remote enough that the Imperials may still have a presence there and we're trying to avoid drawing attention to ourselves."  Just then, Lor caught HK-13 out of the corner of his eye.  "Ah, HK-13, care to settle a dispute for us?  Should we touch down as close as we can to the ruins, or close to a settlement?"

"As close as we can to where we think the ruins are." Elna clarified.

"If we don't know the exact location of the ruins we could potentially land on top of them.  It might be best to land near the settlement and then find the exact location of the ruins before heading to them."

"Finally the droid says something that makes sense," Elna touted in triumph.

"I will concede to landing near a settlement, with a few clarifications," Lor said.  "First, we won't land on top of the ruins without knowing it--they're not buried.  Second, if we ask around the settlement to try and find the location of the ruins, if there are any Imperials, they will find us and probably try to stop us."
